“We are still trying our best to make contact with the sage named Evelyn,” Leo said. “Sage Salo has sent many signals, but we haven’t received a response. If you hadn’t come down in person, we would have gone straight into the underground fortress to investigate.”
“No need.” Lynch shook his head. “I roughly know what that Sage Evelyn is thinking… Once the seed of doubt is planted, it is very difficult to remove unless we can confront her face to face.”
After speaking, Lynch walked over to Sage Salo, who looked somewhat embarrassed in the group. Father Tal, standing beside Salo, sighed helplessly and patted him on the shoulder sympathetically.
“Explain this properly to Lord Lynch.”
He whispered, and Salo nodded, indicating that he knew what to do next.
"I'm sorry, Lord Lynch." Before Lynch could even speak, Salo immediately apologized to him.
"I didn't expect Sage Evelyn to be so suspicious..."
"That's normal. She probably thinks our motives for providing support are impure... although they certainly aren't."
"Don't say that! You are the chosen one of Omnesia, and your actions represent the will of Omnesia. How can there be any talk of purity or impurity!"
"Whether it's pure or not is not for us to decide... Let's go, take me to the entrance of the underground fortress, I want to speak with this Sage Evelyn myself."
Saroo and Tal exchanged a glance, then immediately stepped aside to make way for Lynch. After Lynch had passed, they followed and helped guide him in the right direction.
Crossing the yellow sand, the group soon arrived at an abandoned mining facility exposed on the ground. Saroo stepped forward and led the team into the depths of the facility, finally arriving at a broken, sealed door.
“This is it,” Salo said, then took a deep breath. “Sage Evelyn, I know you’re looking. This is Lord Lynch, the current ruler of the Star Claws.”
There was complete silence, as if Saroo were talking to thin air.
“I know you doubt us now.” Seeing the lack of response, Saroo’s tone finally carried a hint of anxiety. “I did not fulfill your request to bring the reinforcements from Anglostum. But please believe me first, the men of the Star Claws are without fault. Especially Lord Lynch; after my and Father Tar’s verification, he is the true Chosen of Omnisaiah!”
Lin Qi didn't speak, but simply stood in the group, watching everything that was happening before his eyes.
He was indifferent to the current situation. Although the purpose this time was not only to rescue, but also to build a good relationship with Angorostum and the complete STC that the Sage Evelyn might possess, he would consider the latter two as successful as long as the first goal was achieved.
It now appears that the first task was accomplished, since their rescue of α13 is a fact. Even if Angorostrum is shameless, it will still show some consideration when contacting and trading with them later.
As for the second objective...
Seriously, will that Sage Evelyn really have a complete STC?
The value of a complete STC is enormous for the entire Empire. If Evelyn really had a complete STC, and her forging master was conscientious enough not to take it away, then why was she thrown into a mining station outside the forging world?
How to escape the cutthroat competition of the casting world?
Throwing it in such a remote place makes it easier for some people to target it. And judging from the fact that everyone in Tar knows about this, it seems to be an open secret, known to anyone with a little status or rank.
Therefore, in Lynch's own opinion, that STC probably had some problems, and it was at least not just a simple, complete STC.
Five minutes passed, and there was still no response.
Salo's face showed a struggle, but in the end he took a deep breath, a hint of determination flashing in his eyes.
He turned around and came to Lin Qi's side, preparing to directly suggest that the other party mobilize the heavy firepower in the troops to forcefully blast open the door that had been sealed in front of them.
Just then, a servant that had been lying on the ground not far away, seemingly completely damaged, suddenly twitched twice. The commotion was subtle, but it was unmistakably loud to the Astartes present. The next moment, dozens of explosive guns were aimed at the servant, and at the same time, the Honor Guard quietly activated the disintegration fields covering their weapons.
The servant suddenly lay down and twisted its neck so that it was facing Lynch.
A strange, crimson light flickered on that stiff, expressionless face, emanating from its modified electronic prosthetic eyes. It stared intently at Lin Qi, and then a cold female voice emanated from its vocal cords.
“I remember that the ruler of the Star Claws was Rufus Huron, and he should be an Astartes, not a mortal, much less a chosen one of the Omnisaiahs.”
A look of relief appeared on Salo's face. Lynch stepped forward, looked at the servant, and gave his reply.
"Huron is dead, and I am now in charge of Starclaw. I swear in the name of the Emperor that I have no interest in your secrets, nor am I an ambitious person. Saving you and Alpha 13 is partly due to our natural hostility towards the Xenomorphs and Heretics, and partly to establish a cooperative relationship with the Forgeworld behind you."
Lin Qi didn't try to hide anything and openly stated his purpose.
Sometimes, sincerity is the most powerful weapon in a game, and reality has proven this to be true.
The person controlling the machine fell silent, probably not expecting Lin Qi to state his purpose so directly.
However, as mentioned earlier, sincerity can sometimes be the most powerful weapon in a game.
A series of gear-whirring sounds rang out, and a small door appeared next to the sealed main gate. A raggedly dressed mechanic stepped out and bowed respectfully to Lin Qi.
"Lord Lynch, please come with me. Sage Evelyn has been waiting for you inside for quite some time."
Chapter 90 The Battle of Alpha (Part 5) [Totole Attacks]
Led by the clerics, Lynch and his five followers traversed a complex tunnel. Then, as a door was pushed open, their view widened again, revealing a broad corridor with densely packed rooms on both sides.
"This way, Lord Lynch."
The Mechanics continued to provide guidance. Behind Lynch, the three Astartes—Ryan, Leo, and Guts—had heightened their alertness, their hands resting on their explosive pistols at their waists, ready to draw their weapons at any moment and indiscriminately attack any unfamiliar targets in their vicinity.
Because of the narrowness of the entrance passage, the Glory Guards dressed in Hades-type Terminators had difficulty passing through. As for Gawain, he was the one Lynch had initially thrown into Badab to deal with the government affairs that had piled up while he was away.
Lynch himself felt it wasn't good to bring too many soldiers to meet someone who was suspicious of them, so in the end, apart from the two Mechanicus members, Tal and Saroo, he brought along the two company commanders and the priest.
The three were actually somewhat reluctant to make this decision, especially Ryan. He felt that Lynch had given the sage too much face. He figured that if they simply used heavy firepower to blast the door open, the sage probably wouldn't have any objections.
However, what's done is done, and there's nothing they can do to change what Lin Qi has decided. All they can do now is to do their best to protect Lin Qi's personal safety.
If the other side has any problems, then not only can the three of them not accept it, but the entire Star Claw will also nail them to the pillar of shame in the history of the chapter.
"This is it, Lord Lynch. Sage Evelyn is inside."
The mechanics finally stopped in front of a small door, about the size of a human. Lynch turned around, glanced at the three Astartes behind him who were clearly pondering how to enlarge the door, and sighed helplessly.
“You,” he said. “Stay here and don’t move. I’m going to negotiate with that Sage Evelyn.”
"Sir, what about your safety...?"
"That Sage Evelyn shouldn't be a fool who doesn't cherish her own life, otherwise she would have committed suicide with her subordinates long ago."
Lynch's reply successfully silenced the three men, but they remained vigilant. Ryan pulled aside the person who had led the way and questioned him in a low voice.
"Is the sage the only one in the room?"
"It should be...it should be."
"No secret passage?"
"I don't know about that..."
"You'd better behave yourselves."
Ryan snorted coldly, uttered a final warning, and then watched Lin Qi's figure disappear as the small door closed. He silently walked to the door and began his guard duty.
The two company commanders followed suit and went to stand guard on the other side of the gate.
Behind the door, Lin Qi sensed the three people's movements through his psychic abilities, and a strange smile appeared on his face.
He raised his head, looked at the pale-faced white-haired girl in front of him, and spoke softly.
"Please understand, Sage Evelyn, they are still too concerned about me, so I hope you can be more tolerant of their actions."
The white-haired girl didn't reply immediately. Instead, she walked to a corner of the room, opened a safe with several combination locks, and took out a piece of parchment.
Lynch looked over and saw the unique mark of the Angorostrum world-forging world on the parchment, with a signature encrypted in binary at the bottom. The body of the parchment was blank, meaning the holder could fill in anything, as long as it wasn't excessive, and Angorostrum would be willing to take responsibility for it.
"This is one of the things I obtained from my teacher in exchange for a family secret."
"The white-haired girl, or rather, Evelyn Dietersdorf, spoke to Lynch."
"You are free to fill in the contents on it and establish a cooperative relationship with Angorostrum. I believe that is enough to repay your kindness in rescuing me this time, Lord Lynch."
Lynch did not refuse. He took the parchment, felt its rough texture, and understood its preciousness.
"Then thank you very much, Sage Evelyn. But you probably wanted to tell me more than just this during our private meeting."
Lin Qi carefully put away the parchment, then looked up at the white-haired girl in front of him.
It must be said that at first glance, apart from her red robes, it's impossible to tell that this Sage Evelyn is actually a sage from the Cult of Mechanics. Her face shows no signs of mechanical modification; her fair skin is framed by a pair of azure eyes, and her long white hair reaches her shoulders. Overall, she gives off a sickly impression.
Lynch's gaze shifted slightly downwards, noticing the other person's exposed hands. The left hand was a complete flesh and blood body, while the right hand was a prosthetic limb made of steel. However, although it was a prosthetic limb, it still maintained the shape of a human hand, and it did not look creepy at all; on the contrary, it was full of mechanical beauty.
Evelyn nodded, a solemn expression appearing on her otherwise calm face.
“I heard about your identity from Saro… They say you are the chosen one of Omnissiah, with the ability to recreate the miracles of Omnissiah from nothingness, as long as that miracle once existed in someone’s memory.”
Do you need to demonstrate your abilities yourself?
Lynch immediately realized this, after all, he didn't look like Omnisia at all.
"What do you want me to recreate? A completely destroyed fighter soldier? Then there's not enough space here. My suggestion is to go to the ground; there's plenty of space there, we..."
“No,” Evelyn interrupted Lynch. “I do hope you can recreate a miracle, but not a mech, just a very simple object.”
"what is that?"
"A music box, a toy from my childhood, I hope you can recreate it."
A music box?
Lynch frowned upon hearing Evelyn's words. To a member of the Mechanicus, what kind of Omnisaiah's miracle was it to recreate a music box?
"If you're unwilling, you can refuse my request. All you need to do is provide me and the rest of us with a ship to send us back to the Forge World. I won't reveal what happened here, that much..."
"Can't."
Lynch looked at Evelyn, his tone becoming indifferent.
"Give me your memories, and I will recreate them for you."
Lin Qi didn't refuse; he planned to see what this mechanical girl was up to. If there were any problems, he was confident he could handle them.
Surely there isn't an evil god standing behind the other party?
Evelyn's expression turned completely serious as she looked at Lynch, who had agreed to her request. She raised her hand, and a servant in the corner of the room stepped forward and came to Lynch's side.
“I have uploaded that memory into the brain of this servant. You can view it directly using your psionic powers.”
Be cautious enough.
Lynch mentally added a comment to Evelyn's evaluation. Then he reached out and used his psionic energy to probe the information contained in the servant's brain.
There was no extra data, only a clear video. In a luxurious room with a fireplace, a little girl was holding a small music box and fiddling with it.
Lynch reached out and grabbed the music box, then silently activated his ability.
But then, his expression changed, and his eyes instantly became sharp.
This thing...something's not right.
The pressure this thing exerted on my soul was far greater than that of a simple music box; in fact, it felt almost like the feeling I had when I extracted the Imperial Guard's power armor last time.
