Chapter 128. Base Takes Off, Stark's Verbal Outburst
The colossal base, obscuring the sky, rose into the air, without any propulsion structure to provide it with thrust, ascending slowly as if defying gravity.
No one knows how this base came to be.
One second they were lamenting how hard it was to make money under the scorching sun, and the next second, a giant base far larger than New York City appeared.
This seemingly divine method instilled fear in everyone, but when the warm light gently caressed their faces, all fear vanished, leaving only anticipation for tomorrow and hope for the future.
It was a silvery-white, luminous sphere with a diameter of ten kilometers. Compared to the stars that illuminate the solar system, it appeared very small, but its radiance surpassed that of the sun.
In contrast, the sun seems to become a mere backdrop, the only one in the sky!
The all-pervading light reaches every region without any hindrance, whether it is the desolate and uninhabited Arctic, the deserted and sand-swept desert, or the mysterious and isolated country, all can be illuminated by this light that defies the laws of physics.
The tsunami subsided, the earthquake gradually stopped, the storm turned into a gentle breeze, and the torrential rain turned into a drizzle. On this day, all natural disasters on Earth ceased, as if the Earth itself was celebrating, congratulating a majestic being that was about to enlighten all beings.
This day will be permanently recorded in human history and is known as the Day of Divine Revelation.
In this sky city, also known as the Kingdom of Light base, Steve, Stark, and others stood not far from the core of the base, which resembled a miniature sun. Their gazes pierced through the sun's interior as they looked at the gradually shrinking ground, their expressions varied.
Feelings of emotion, relief, ease, and joy are just some of the emotions they experience. They are of different ages, personalities, and races, but they all share a common ideal—peace, justice, and protection.
Perhaps they themselves do not realize that, in the grand scheme of things, they have long transcended national boundaries and racial distinctions, and all they do is maintain peace, uphold justice, and protect the weak.
"That's awesome! That's so awesome! Finally, I don't have to listen to those disgusting old bastards anymore. I can control my own technology. If anyone wants to threaten me, go talk to Ultraman!" Stark roared with glee.
He gulped down a large mouthful of beer, his face beaming with pleasure, not even noticing the beer spilled on the hem of his clothes.
"Tony, watch your image." Pepper picked up a tissue and wiped away the beer stains from Stark.
To be honest, she didn't know why she had been recognized and allowed to ascend to this city of miracles.
Ji Yuan's words kept echoing in my ears: "The light will choose those who have inner strength and listen to its guidance."
Perhaps this is the mystery of the gods.
Steve crossed his arms and watched the cities and countries rapidly shrink in size. He almost couldn't help but shout out, "This is what I want! Power is not for destruction, but for protecting the weak and maintaining peace!"
He could sense that his ideal was about to be realized: a peaceful world without war.
Just when he was feeling happy, his bad mood was ruined.
Jarvis's voice came from the side: "Mr. Steve, the United Nations Council, the World Security Council, the President of the United States, and the Department of Defense are all calling you. Do you wish to answer?"
"I'm not answering!" Steve said, frowning. He had been fed up with these people for a long time, and now he could finally lay his cards on the table and stop pretending.
What is that?
"Hey! Steve, don't panic, I'll take it, I'll take it!" Stark shouted hurriedly. This was going to be a big surprise, and he couldn't miss it. His own phone was encrypted, so those government officials couldn't possibly call him.
Steve shook his head helplessly: "Fine, do whatever you want, they can't do anything about it anyway."
Stark grinned slyly and said to Jarvis, "Jarvis, connect me to the president."
"Yes, Mr. Stark."
Soon, the authoritative voice of the President of the United States rang out through the communication device, immediately beginning with reprimand: "Steve, why did it take you so long to answer the phone? Do you know what you've done? You've orchestrated a terrorist attack! You've subverted world authority! You've diminished the power of the nation! Do you know what this will cause?"
"What will happen, dear Mr. President?" Stark said slyly.
"Tony Stark? It's you? You're the one who built this massive facility? No wonder you weren't answering your phone; you're in cahoots. I'm ordering you, in the name of the President of the United States, to cease all operations, or I will launch a military strike against you and your facility!"
The American president seemed somewhat exasperated, while the people on the facility also heard some background noise and conversations between different people.
Stark recognized several of the voices; they were the voices of the Secretary of Defense and Rhodes, which he knew all too well.
He said slowly, "Mr. President, I think I heard there are some acquaintances next to you. Why don't you all speak together so I can curse and answer you all at the same time?"
"Hmph, Stark!" The President of the United States coughed twice solemnly. After a burst of noise, another authoritative voice rang out, carrying a hint of military authority.
"Stark, I am the Secretary of Defense. Cease your terrorist activities! You have seriously violated the nation's territorial and airspace rights. I have the right and the duty to take armed action against you. If you do not stop, I will use nuclear weapons!"
"One," Stark chuckled, his tone calm yet tinged with sarcasm, "Minister, I can hand over this technology to the nation. Do you want it?"
The faint noise on the other end of the phone suddenly stopped, then rose slightly in a suppressed manner. The Minister of Defense spoke at a measured pace: "If you are willing to hand over this technology, we can disguise today's operation as a military exercise and award you the National Hero Medal. You should know that what you have done has already caused countless casualties and riots. This is a huge mess."
Stark suddenly covered his mouth to stop himself from laughing. Through this sun, they could see every corner of the world. How could they not know if there was a riot?
However, he still replied, "You brainless idiot, you want everything! Don't think I don't know what you've done with my technology. Just wait, you'll be out of a job soon!"
"What did you say?" The Minister of Defense sounded somewhat exasperated, followed by another burst of static, and the phone seemed to have been handed to someone else.
"Ahem." A soft cough came from the other end of the phone, a voice so familiar it couldn't be more so.
"Tony, maybe I should give you some advice."
