Leon adopted a casual, conversational stance.
"Your Highness, I have met you."
Rosen answered.
"How is Miss Anna?"
Leon chuckled softly.
In the original series, Anna is just an ordinary girl with slightly delicate features. She always wears her long flaxen hair in a thick braid for easy work. She is ten years older than Helena. Helena is nineteen now, so Anna is already twenty-nine.
Anna's family was not well-off, and she only attended primary school for three years. Her vocabulary was limited, and she was not very literate. However, she supported Helena through university by selling agricultural products. Although she was only ten years older than Helena, Leon felt that it was not too much for Helena to call her "Mommy".
Anna is truly the embodiment of kindness.
"Anna is a very nice person."
Rosen praised sincerely.
Although he didn't know Leon's motives for protecting Anna, Rosen was certain, through his interactions with Leon and Anna, that the two could not possibly have a dirty relationship like that of mistresses.
Furthermore, if he really had to find a mistress, Leon's maid was actually prettier than Anna, so Leon really didn't need one.
"Really? Then you'd better not fall for her."
Leon joked, "Her background is far more terrifying than you imagine."
With Feng Aotian protecting you, you'll die if you make a single move.
"Background? Miss Anna, she..."
Rosen hesitated, wondering if Anna was some kind of wealthy family's daughter. It didn't seem like it at all.
"What, you don't actually have feelings for Anna, do you?"
Leon laughed and said, "If you want to marry Anna, you'll first need Helena's consent, right? Helena... she had a pretty sharp eye in the original series, and she'll definitely care a lot about the future of her beloved Anna."
However, Anna is almost thirty. In this world, girls from normal migrant worker families would be married by now, and some might even have kids who are already teenagers.
Well, Rosen is honest, upright, loyal, and family-oriented. He's in his early thirties and has never been in a relationship. I feel like he and Anna are quite a good match.
"Your Highness, please don't joke about such a serious matter."
Rosen frowned, looking slightly embarrassed.
"Okay, Rosen, the main reason I summoned you to the palace, besides to inquire about the situation in Ping'an Town, is that I want you to do something for me."
Leon steered the conversation back on track.
"Your Highness, just ask."
"It's just to inform Marquis Gavin that I'll be making a secret visit to his residence this afternoon and hope he can spare the time."
The Marquis is quite busy, and if Leon goes in the afternoon, Gavin might not be at the manor, so it's better to inform him in advance so that he can be prepared.
Furthermore, it is a traditional etiquette to inform someone of your presence before visiting their home. This is a rule that has been in place for thousands of years. It is considered impolite to barge into someone's residence and request a meeting without proper etiquette.
Moreover, Leon is currently the regent prince and the officially recognized diplomatic spokesperson of the imperial family. His actions and words can be said to represent the Fchester Empire.
Of course, Rosen doesn't necessarily have to do this, but if Hawkeye does it, that traitor will most likely report to Leon. If Leon figures out something, then Rosen will be in trouble.
As for calling other knights, given their character... they're even less reliable than Hawkeye.
"I have already written the letter of visit. If Lord Gavin is not here, you can give this to the Marquis's mansion. Remember to keep it secret, the fewer people who know about it, the better."
After saying that, Leon took out a letter he had written about ten minutes earlier from his desk drawer.
"Yes, Your Highness, I understand."
Rosen took the letter.
"After you finish delivering the goods, go straight to Peace Town. You don't need to come back to report. Anna's safety is the most important thing."
Leon added.
"As ordered."
Rosen carefully placed the letter in his breast pocket and prepared to leave.
"Wait a moment."
Leon called out to Rosen.
"Does Your Highness have any further instructions?"
Rosen stopped in his tracks.
"Keep a close eye on Helena and any news related to Duke Hibbert lately. If you sense anything is amiss, tell me immediately."
Leon said seriously.
"Okay, Your Highness."
"Also, watch out for Jack."
"Jack?"
"Yes, if we encounter Jack, we must do everything in our power to eliminate him."
Leon continued.
Although both Rosen and Jack are diamond-level demigod knights, in terms of combat power, Rosen could easily defeat Jack in a one-on-one fight.
"I understand, Your Highness."
Although Rosen was curious, he didn't ask any further questions since Leon didn't seem inclined to explain.
As Jack was his former colleague, Rosen naturally knew him and was well aware of what kind of person Jack was. If that scum attacked him, Rosen would certainly not show any mercy.
"Okay, that's all. Take care."
Leon smiled gently.
"Your Highness, please take care as well."
Rosen bowed slightly, then quickly left.
"Whoo~"
After Rosen left, Leon took a deep breath.
How should I persuade the Marquis of Gavin to help me this afternoon?
Miss Hazel's words...
Leon's impression of her was probably no less than Helena's before she read the diary...
Hiss, it's hard to break.
Tree branches cannot support lychees.
Leon is currently struggling with these issues.
The more I think about it, the more my head aches...
Chapter 42 My Past with the Elf Girl
In the afternoon, Leon stepped out of the carriage.
I habitually looked up at the sky.
The weather isn't very good today. The sun is hidden behind thick clouds, and it looks like it's going to rain, but it hasn't.
The air quality in the capital is terrible; you can hardly see a clear blue sky here. The sky is always shrouded in a gray-black fog.
However, Leon thought it was quite "Guberlin".
The bleak autumn wind raged through the bustling streets of Guberland, swirling plastic bags, advertising flyers, and other miscellaneous discarded items along with fallen sycamore leaves in the wind.
"Sir, if you walk straight along this Hexi Avenue for about 500 meters, there is a small manor. The large villa inside the manor is the residence of Marquis Hayden."
The coachman kindly offered this reminder.
This is a small, thin, and very simple-looking middle-aged man.
Leon left the palace alone, for which he gave the guards a considerable amount of money, but it didn't matter; the Hoyle family had plenty of money.
"OK, thanks."
Leon took out a hundred-dollar note from his pocket, gave it to the coachman, then lightly tapped the half-height silk hat on his head before turning and quickly leaving.
"Sir, I haven't given you your change yet!"
The coachman quickly called out.
"Keep the change, that's a tip."
Leon turned his head and replied, quickening his pace once more.
His black leather jacket fluttered in the wind as his solitary figure quickly disappeared into the bustling street.
This place is rather remote, located at the end of the East River Avenue in the western district of Guberland, almost on the outskirts of the city.
Like Earth, water is the source of life here, so Guberland is also a city built around a river.
This river is called the Meilin River. There is a poignant story behind the origin of its name, but we'll leave that aside for now.
It didn't take Leon long to find the Marquis Hayden's manor. Since he had been informed of his visit beforehand, Mr. James, the Marquis's butler, and several guards were already waiting at the manor gate.
Mr. James was a tall man with a long, narrow jaw and neck. He wore a monocle with a gold rim over his left eye, and a third of his light blond hair had turned white, indicating that he had entered menopause.
"You are—Prince Leon?"
James walked up to Leon and tentatively asked.
The man before me, Leon, wore a long leather trench coat over a white shirt and a black vest, with a thin striped tie, and his crisp black suit trousers and black leather boots gleamed. His half-high silk hat was pulled low, and the golden bangs peeking out from under the brim obscured his eyes. His entire demeanor was calm and reserved, as if shrouded in shadow, making him unfathomable.
James had never met Leon in person before; he had only seen Leon's portrait. In addition, Leon was known in the world as a good-for-nothing with no class. So when he saw the young man in front of him, who was completely different from the portrait and the rumors, he was stunned. He even doubted that this was Leon.
"It's me, Leon. You must be Mr. James, right?"
Leon smiled calmly, then gently raised the brim of his hat slightly.
Leon had seen the original anime, so he naturally knew James. Although the anime style on screen differed quite a bit from the current live-action version, James's iconic features were still there, so he wasn't hard to recognize.
"Yes, I am James, Your Highness, please come in."
As Leon raised the brim of his hat, James could confirm that it was indeed the Leon in the portrait, but even more handsome than in the painting.
Leon nodded slightly without saying a word, simply following quietly beside James and his group.
The original owner had a terrible impression of Marquis Gavin and Miss Hazel, so he was just shamelessly barging into their house as a guest. Even a fool could tell that he was not well received here.
The path leading from the manor to the villa wasn't very long, and Leon quickly followed James into the lobby.
"Your Highness, please come this way."
Upon entering the lobby, the guards surrounding Leon stopped, leaving only James to lead the way.
Guided by James, Leon arrived at the door of a not-so-large office.
The plaque above the office door read "Marquis Gavin's Office" in Fitchman script.
Marquis Gavin...
For some reason, Leon suddenly felt a little nervous. He quietly took a deep breath, trying to appear calm, and then began to think about how he should persuade Gavin next.
While Leon was still preparing, James had already knocked on the office door.
"Please come in."
The voice coming from the office wasn't that of Marquis Gavin, but rather a clear and melodious female voice. This startled Leon slightly.
"It's like this, the Marquis just happened to leave Guberlan yesterday and it's really difficult for him to return today, so if Your Highness has anything to say, it's the same as telling our young lady."
Seeing Leon looking at him questioningly, James gave a professional smile and explained.
"Okay."
Leon didn't complain. Compared to an old politician like Gavin, arguing with Heyzo was much less stressful.
"Then I won't disturb Your Highness any longer."
James still had a smile on his face.
Leon nodded slightly, then opened the door and entered the office.
