Chapter 34 The Restless River
Chapter 34 The Restless River
The wolf packs they encountered on the road would not change the goal that Tian was leading his team to achieve.
After notifying the base to send vehicles to pick up some of the bodies and dispose of them, the team continued on its way.
Walking on the somewhat unfamiliar road, looking at the scenery outside the window, Wu Ou began to recall what this place was originally.
At this moment, the original riverside avenue, which once served as a relaxing park, square, and running track for enjoying the river view, has now become part of the river.
Of course, some were frozen under the snow, and some were submerged in water.
I don't know what the exact principle is, but even at temperatures below minus twenty degrees Celsius, there are only some large and small floating ice floes on the river, making it look like springtime.
However, compared to the small river that Wu Ou and his group had crossed before, there weren't as many fish leaping out of the water here.
It seemed like a peaceful scene.
Several birds in the sky slowly descended, as if intending to rest on the water's surface or to see if any fish were approaching, so they could have a chance to hunt.
However, they were unaware that they were being watched by countless eyes.
Underwater, some bright eyes are watching the water birds falling from the sky through the water's surface.
While many bird-type energy beasts have grown larger, some have not grown that much, but have gained other abilities.
For example, the core hunting method of these water birds is still catching fish in the water.
Therefore, the beak became harder, and the feathers became more 'strong'.
More importantly, its "eyesight" is also relatively better, allowing it to see some underwater conditions more clearly.
Gollum-
Bubbles rose continuously from underwater, followed by several dark figures that quickly surfaced.
Several seabirds knew that their hunting opportunity had arrived!
With a flap of its wings, it swooped down!
It landed on the water's surface, its claws already gripping something, and the other thing was still struggling.
With flapping wings, several waterbirds tried to work together to lift the fish they caught into the air, then slam it to the ground and kill it.
But in the next instant, a tremendous force came and they were dragged into the water!
I want to loosen my grip and fly into the sky.
But in the very next instant they broke free, a gaping maw, along with the river water, engulfed their bodies.
Snapped!
Its enormous mouth closed, creating a splash before gradually sinking into the river. Soon, the surface returned to calm, as if nothing had happened.
Underwater, a crocodile about five meters long, with a tail that resembles a large black fish, is enjoying its meal.
But at that moment, a suction force suddenly came from deeper underwater, followed by a sound wave.
It was like a student who was daydreaming being suddenly called on by the teacher, and they shuddered.
Reluctantly, it swallowed the food in its mouth whole and then sank deeper.
On the shore, a group of more than a dozen big cats came together.
They cautiously observed the water's surface for over ten minutes, and only after confirming that there was no immediate danger did they carefully, as quietly as possible, approach the riverbank to drink.
They were lucky today and didn't suffer any attacks from the powerful source energy beasts. They easily dealt with the occasional small fish, shrimp, or crabs that were part of the source energy beasts, treating them as extra food.
A dozen minutes later, the big cats left the shore and headed towards their dens.
They hadn't gone far when the leader spotted several dark figures darting past from a short distance away.
Trusting its instincts, it squeaked once it confirmed that the creature was a mouse.
Upon hearing this, more than a dozen large cats rushed over together, changing formation as they ran to form a hunting array.
However, they soon found themselves in a courtyard.
A dozen or so mice of various sizes were moving forward in a strange cage, trying to reach the food hanging in front of them, but they always just missed it.
Many more mice were stuck to a giant "sticky mouse trap".
Some were still struggling, trying to break free from the restraints beneath their feet.
Some have already given up and simply lie face down on it, which is more "comfortable".
"Meow?"
The dozen or so large cats looked at the scene before them and thought they had entered a "buffet restaurant".
"Squeak squeak squeak~~"
A series of squeaking sounds came from a tape recorder at the edge of the yard.
"Meow!"
A large cat precisely swatted a mouse that was trying to rush into the yard and pinned it to the ground, killing it.
Clearly, this is a large-scale "rat trap" specifically designed to catch these rats.
"Meow meow meow!"
The lead cat meowed, then cautiously approached the edge of the sticky mouse trap and tried to grab the nearest mouse with its paw.
Stab it--!
Grab the rat by its skin and tear its body apart; it pulls most of it over.
Blinking, the big cat leader seemed to understand how to use this place.
"Meow—meow—meow!"
Holding the dead rat in its hand, it squeaked a few times, and the other big cats obviously became excited.
However, the next moment, the lead cat suddenly bristled and leaped onto the nearby roof.
Those who react a beat slower are unlucky.
They were caught by a frame that suddenly closed on the ground, trapping all four limbs. The barbs on it ensured that any trapped target that wanted to break free would be left with a bloody mess.
"Meow!"
The large cat leader on the rooftop glared fiercely at its surroundings.
"Such strong perception." A voice came from the recording device.
Then, the big cat jumped again, trying to leap out of the yard.
But a large net appeared in its path.
"Meow!"
The big cat meowed and tried to squeeze through the gaps in the net.
But the next moment, a tremendous force slammed it to the ground.
A wave of dizziness followed by intense pain.
As its life force rapidly drained away, the big cat stared wide-eyed, trying to see what exactly was killing it.
Finally, a figure appeared in front of it.
"Using these rats to lure those who want something for nothing is so convenient." The man laughed as he hoisted the big cat's corpse onto his shoulder and leaped onto the roof.
Soon, they took another path and entered the room, which then led into a secret passage.
The basement was a specially modified environment.
"With this batch of silly cats, we can exchange for more supplies next time we go." The man placed the large cat's corpse on the ground and revealed an excited smile.
"However, I think we need to prepare early. The number of small mutant beasts that can be attracted around here is getting smaller and smaller. I can't exactly imitate the sound of birds, can I?" A bespectacled man with a wooden stick in his mouth walked over with his hands in his pockets.
"Who can argue with that! Ever since those big guys in the river started attacking the powerful mutated beasts, life has become increasingly difficult."
