Chapter 22 Father and Son
Chapter 22 Father and Son
After a moment of silence, Medici looked up at Sasriel, the red angel who had been raised by Sasriel. He looked up at the person in front of him as a cub, and for a moment, he seemed to have returned to his childhood.
He was raised by the person before him, regarded the sun god as his master and father, and willingly became the angel who followed him and fought in his footsteps.
Together they traversed the dark Second Age, fought countless wars, defeated the ancient gods who once ruled the world, and finally established the new order that belongs to humanity today.
Medici once thought that this kind of life might continue forever, with everyone forever following the sun god and fighting for Him until He died for Him.
It was precisely because of this idea that Medici found it even more difficult to accept the future he envisioned.
—Whether it's the fall of the sun god or...
The betrayal of the sun god.
"...We have experienced a journey through time and space." Medici finally spoke, gazing at Sasriel and at his own reflection in the other's eyes.
"We arrived in the future, and a lot happened in that future."
Medici made no attempt to conceal anything, recounting in detail the future He had learned about from the future, including the establishment of the Rose of Redemption, the fall of the Sun God, the betrayal of the Three Gods, the birth of the True Creator, the Age of Great Cataclysm, the cooperation between the True Creator and Solomon, and so on.
Although some details are missing due to not being a firsthand witness, Medici's keen insight as a top-notch schemer allows him to make up for this in his narration, depicting the future almost completely.
Sasriel listened quietly. Even though he was a dark angel who had experienced many storms, he was obviously surprised when Medici described the future, but he still kept a straight face.
It wasn't until Medici finished recounting the fall of the Black Emperor Solomon that he began to describe the birth of the Blood Emperor Tudor.
"...The divinity of the Lord decided to kill me. He allied with Amun and helped Arista Tudor kill me, allowing the Blood Emperor to be born bathed in my blood, thus beginning the era of the Four Emperors." Medici paused here before continuing:
"This is also the era that Rosen and I arrived at, and that's the end of our understanding of the future."
At that moment, He lowered His eyes, not looking at Saslil's expression, but He sensed the other's silence.
At this moment, the room was eerily quiet; even the breathing of the people present was much softer than before.
Maybe ten seconds, maybe a few minutes or even longer, then Medici heard the sound of fabric rubbing together, and someone squatted down in front of him.
The man embraced Him.
"I'm sorry, Medici."
At this moment, Saslir's voice lost its usual composure, trembling slightly and carrying a hint of helplessness.
At this moment, Sasriel did not seem like the capable and well-ordered Vice-King of Heaven, but rather like a father whose child had been hurt and who was powerless to help.
Medici looked surprised.
"...I failed to protect you."
Sasriel found it hard to describe his feelings at that moment. It wasn't that he had no plans for his future; in fact, both the sun god and Sasriel were prepared for a terrible fate. So when faced with Medici's description of the sun god's fall, the birth of the true creator, and other future events, Sasriel felt a sense of "as expected, this is how it has come to be."
He knew how terrible God was, so he accepted his fate with equanimity, only hoping that in the future he could protect the world from the hands of the Outer God.
But Sasriel didn't expect Adam to choose to kill Medici.
The dark angel could certainly guess that Adam would have his own reasons for doing this, but no matter how many reasons he had, Sasriel found it hard to accept that Adam would choose to kill Medici when Medici had not betrayed him.
This is the child He raised with His own hands. The dark angel can accept Medici's fate of death, but it can be a glorious death in battle, a voluntary sacrifice, but it can never be being abandoned or sacrificed.
Perhaps the sun god could accept such a future, but Sasriel could not. He was abandoned by the sun god, soft, fragile, and full of emotions. He was the god's weakness and the embodiment of all negative emotions.
—For a being like the Sun God, His negative aspects would not be the emotions of wanting to destroy or harm others that are common to ordinary people. Rather, they represent all His wavering, all His weakness, and all His fragile human emotions.
Therefore, even though the sun god's emotions were distorted when facing Rosen, he still appeared cold and hard, while Sasriel would subconsciously treat Rosen as a real child.
Therefore, Sasriel finds it difficult to accept a future where Medici is sacrificed.
"...That's not your fault." Medici's voice was dry. He hesitated for a moment, his heart filled with mixed feelings, but he still reached out and patted Sasriel on the back, saying, "You were just stopped by another master."
Medici could tell that it was Adam, not Sasliel, who would kill him in the future, even though they were both Lords, but different aspects of the Lord.
Of course, Medici was actually a little awkward inside, since he did indeed regard them as the same person.
But seeing Sasriel's behavior now, the red angel understood that the other party was absolutely unwilling to sacrifice Him, and was relieved.
He still couldn't easily forgive the divinity of the Lord, but he wouldn't hold a grudge against Saslil.
Thinking of this, Medici couldn't help but glance at Adam, who had appeared out of nowhere beside him. The young firstborn son of God was completely different from the one in later generations, his expression filled with surprise and helplessness.
It's not Him.
With just one glance, Medici was certain that the Adam he encountered in the future was not the same as the Adam before him, just as the difference between the true Creator and Adam was that they were one person and not one person.
This made Medici purse his lips and look away.
He wouldn't be so shameless as to actually beat up a real child over something that didn't happen.
But don't expect Medici to treat Adam any better in the future. The Red Angel isn't that generous; not beating him is His last act of leniency.
Sasriel didn't refute Medici's words. He simply released Medici, reached out and ruffled the other's hair, then his expression became more solemn and serious than ever before:
"...I will do everything in my power to prevent this from happening, and even if it is truly the will of God, I will try my best to reverse it."
Medici paused for a moment, then finally looked up at the dark angel before him. After a few seconds, he turned his head away and said, "I will not fall twice in the same place."
With the Red Angels on guard, even if Adam wanted to scheme against them, it wouldn't be so easy.
Sasriel seemed to sigh, patted Medici on the shoulder, then looked at Rosen who was quietly watching them, and said softly:
"Thanks."
