Oz left.
He left behind the ambiguous message, "I'll be waiting for you at home," and then flapped his wings and flew away.
Peter was furious and embarrassed. What did he mean by "waiting for you at home"? It made it sound like he was having an affair with a bird!
Furthermore, he thought Oz's behavior just now was really excessive!
Okay, he meant that although he really liked this girl,... there was no need for this, was there?!
What if I scare them?
"Are you alright?" Peter hesitated, wondering whether to let go of the girl in his arms.
"Am I alright?" Gwen frowned. "A talking raven just appeared in front of me and flew away. Yes, I'm fine."
Peter scratched the back of his head, unsure of what to say.
However, his action also caused the two to quickly separate from their embrace.
The sudden hug made both of them a little nervous. Although it started because of a crow, that strange element had flown away, and there was no reason to continue hugging now.
The atmosphere became somewhat awkward for a moment.
Gwen's mouth spewed out a barrage of questions like a machine gun: "What exactly is this crow? Why can it talk? Were you distracted in class today because you were talking to it? Why couldn't I see it before?"
Peter was confused and didn't know how to explain it to Gwen. "It's a long story, but it shouldn't be harmful."
"should?!"
Gwen thought Peter was crazy. What kind of crow has red eyes and can talk?!
Peter suddenly asked, "How did you know I was distracted? Were you secretly watching me?"
"No!" Gwen widened her innocent, beautiful eyes. "Okay, I mean, yes, I was worried about you."
"Thank you... I'm fine."
"..."
The straight-male style of his words caused the conversation between the two to cool down again.
Peter didn't know what to say to Gwen about Oz.
Let's forget about it then. He himself can't say he's very familiar with Oz!
Should I tell her I was bitten by a spider?
This is even more unspeakable!
Gwen sighed and smiled, "You're stronger than I thought."
"Really?" Peter laughed along.
"certainly."
Gwen said, "I thought it would be a while before I saw you again, after all... uh, sorry, that's not what I meant."
"It's okay, I understand what you mean," Peter replied.
The two fell silent again.
Gwen was filled with remorse; why did she have to reopen someone else's wounds?
Peter naturally understood Gwen's thoughts and said:
"It wasn't easy at first, but Aunt May told me that if Uncle Ben were still here, he would tell us to hold our heads high and keep going."
Gwen nodded. "Yes, everything will be alright!"
"..."
Peter realized that he had run out of things to talk about, and if he continued, he would probably carve a three-bedroom, two-living-room house out of the sole of his shoe.
He raised his thumb and pointed in the direction Oz had flown away.
"I have something to do... so..."
"I understand, I understand. He's waiting for you at home. It's okay." Gwen nodded repeatedly.
"Shall we talk again next time?"
See you next time.
Gwen then watched Peter leave.
Once Peter had completely disappeared from sight, Gwen couldn't help but rub her chest.
"You damn crow, you scared the hell out of me!"
......
......
......
The basement of Parker's house.
"Your behavior is very wrong!"
"Heh, if you feel something's wrong, you can let go. You seemed quite happy hugging them, didn't you?"
That's not what I meant!
"Oh, then I'll try harder next time and let you kiss her cherry lips, *smack smack*."
Oz closed his eyes and made a pouting kissing face.
Peter's face turned red with anger. He put down the old watch he had used to make the web-shooting device and pointed at Oz, saying:
"You know what I'm talking about? Your sudden appearance will scare a lot of people!"
"You fucking call me ugly?!" Oz snapped. "Sorry? It's not my fault I have dark skin!"
Peter covered his forehead, realizing that he really had a hard time communicating normally with Oz.
The other party clearly knows what they mean, but they still manage to steer the conversation in other directions.
Look now, Oz has already labeled him a racist!
Peter took a deep breath. "I'm sorry, that's not what I meant..."
"I know, I did it on purpose."
"..."
Peter's forehead vein throbbed. After taking deep breaths to calm himself down, he asked:
"Aren't you worried that others will find out you exist? Especially since you're a talking crow!"
Oz glanced at the web-shooting device that Peter hadn't finished making, and sometimes he couldn't help but think that, aside from his superpowers, Spider-Man's greatest advantage was his brain.
A broken watch was pieced together and somehow managed to create a spider web launcher.
Oz then said earnestly, "That's discrimination, man."
"They think I bring bad luck just because I'm a crow, but their lives are just a pile of dog shit and have nothing to do with me."
"And Parker, don't you understand?"
Oz shook himself, and the basement light reflected off his feathers, giving them a stunning dark purple hue.
"Only if I want others to see it can others see it."
Peter was speechless and had no choice but to return to his desk to continue making the spider silk projectile.
"Next time you want to appear in front of Aunt May, at least give her a heads-up. I don't want to frighten her."
Oz replied, "Relax, I'm not a bad person, don't assume I'm malicious."
Peter responded with a chuckle.
Oz jumped onto Peter's shoulder, watching the kid deftly strung the electrical wires with his fingers.
"When will it be finished?"
"Um......"
Peter picked up the old watch model, looked at it, and replied, "Almost done... What? You don't want me to finish so you can go swing between skyscrapers, do you?"
"Why not?" Oz suggested. "You're going to use it anyway, so there's no difference between using it sooner or later. Maybe you'll even discover some problems and then make some improvements."
Peter returned to building the transmitter, saying, "I can't believe I actually listened to you and obediently built something that sounds terrifying."
"However, I still believe that we should follow scientific truth and conduct an experiment first."
Hearing this, Oz got excited.
He said, "Hey, do you think that the genetic stuff you and Connors are researching might lead him to experiment on himself and turn into a giant lizard?"
Peter stopped what he was doing and retorted on behalf of Dr. Connors, "How is that possible? How could such a meticulous scientist not conduct clinical trials first?"
"Who knows?" Oz shrugged.
Peter suddenly realized that Oz might have meant something else.
"Do you think he'll turn into a lizard?"
Oz leaned back, his head shaking wildly like a rattle-drum.
"Don't slander me, I didn't say that."
Peter remained silent for a moment.
He recalled what Oz had said before, unsure whether it was a joke or true.
"Because my eyes can see into the future."
In Peter's view, a talking raven was already a rare sight, let alone the fact that he was bound to it by a so-called contract.
Therefore, Peter believes that Oz's statement is quite credible.
What if it's really as it says?
Damn it.
The biological formula of genetics was written by him for Dr. Connors!
If Dr. Connors really does turn into a giant lizard, then it will be his responsibility!
"What are you daydreaming about? Keep being your transmitter," Oz said in his ear.
"It's done," Peter said.
Oz gave an "oh," lay sprawled on the table, and waited for Peter's so-called experiment to be completed.
"Then hurry up and start the experiment, time waits for no one."
"Perhaps we can set off for training now?"
Oz slowly stood up and looked at Peter with surprise.
Why has this kid suddenly become so worried?
"what?"
"Didn't you say that time waits for no one?"
"Okay... then."
