Chapter 202 Hawke
Chapter 202 Hawke
Chapter 202 Hawke
Martin didn't know what to do, because he often thought about being able to appear in front of the world openly, win a narrow victory, and return home in glory.
As he brushed past Martin, the Magician Wizard, who had kept a distance, turned back in confusion. He seemed to have just seen a very familiar figure, like Martin, a very famous person in the Magician Academy.
"It seems Martin does live here. I remember meeting him when we used the door key together before—"
He felt a sense of unease, because his actions clearly contradicted the professors' repeated instructions, and he feared that Martin would tell the professors.
"What did you say?" asked his cronies and wizarding enthusiasts.
He shook his head: "It seems I've mistaken you for someone else."
That night.
Martin went to the abandoned cellar where the door key was kept, where he found many people waiting for him.
He asked, "There's no rule stating that a group of people are required to use the door key. What's going on here?"
This is said to be a rule set up by Madam Maxim to ensure their convenience and privacy when traveling: anyone whose name is on the Magic Gold Academy's register can use this key.
This reduces the chances of unsuspecting passersby noticing something amiss due to large gatherings.
It's rare to see such a large group of people crammed together like tonight; usually, it's just three or five people who happen to get together.
"Martin, you need to talk to us."
The leader slammed his wand heavily on the ground, causing the cigarette ash piled up on the roof beams to fall down, and the windows and curtains to tap gently, obscuring the moonlight.
But soon the curtains fell limply, and as I rested my hand on the pillar, moonlight shone through the gaps in the tattered curtains, illuminating the rising dust.
"They've come with ill intentions," Martin thought to himself, immediately realizing that these people were there to ambush him.
It's very likely because this morning he witnessed the leader of the opposing side violating the secrecy law.
"I know what you want to talk about, but talking to me won't do any good," he said. "We've all been exposed to magic, and we all know how mysterious it is. It would be foolish for us to presume to know how wizards know things. So whether I tell the professors or not, they will know about your actions."
"As long as you don't tell, the professors won't know what we did!" the leader said viciously. In reality, he was indeed wary of the mystique of the magical world and hoped that the wizards couldn't monitor everyone.
This is related to their experience of studying at the Magic Academy, which has instilled in them a great reverence for magic.
If they were to venture out and into the wizarding communities, they would discover that while magic is indeed mysterious and illogical, it also has significant limitations. Furthermore, most wizards are not much different from ordinary people, except that their lives are more convenient and efficient.
"You guys?" Martin exclaimed in surprise. "You're all showing off that you've become wizards!"
"So what! What can't be said?"
"Exactly! Why can't a wizard call himself a wizard!"
"Those people bully us every day, aren't we allowed to show off our abilities now that we have them!"
Martin looked around at the people. No one thought he had done anything wrong. Everyone's face was full of self-affirmation and mockery of Martin's obedience to secrecy laws and his dutiful service.
He felt a deep sense of powerlessness. Their future and destiny depended on others, yet some of his teammates were acting recklessly and completely disregarding warnings!
Is it because they've been calling themselves "magic wizards" for so long that they think their status as wizards is natural, innate, and something that can't be taken away by external forces?
"Wake up! Without wands we're Squibs, without education we're Muggles!" He was heartbroken by the shortsighted and foolish behavior of his fellow citizens, and his advice turned into a wail: "Go see the professors, confess all this to them! I've heard that memory charms can alter memories, your actions can still be undone!"
"You're talking nonsense!" A person stepped out from the crowd used to block Martin.
Martin discovered that it was an old friend of his, the bald, middle-aged wealthy businessman. He later learned the businessman's name during his time at the academy—Hawk Green, a perfumer who claimed to have contributed to the production of French perfume.
"Because they possess memory charms, they could potentially alter everyone's memories, including ours! We cannot trust them! We should move between the Muggle and wizarding worlds, seizing the opportunity to strengthen ourselves and gain true influence!"
Hawke spoke with great enthusiasm and conviction, as if simply following his lead would allow them to carve out a path to survival from the dual oppression of the wizarding and Muggle worlds and lead the magic wizards to the pinnacle of the world.
His expression was resolute, decisive, and earnest.
The audience was very excited, believing that Hawke was the only god and that Lane Welsh was nothing more than a scheming man who wanted to benefit himself.
Only Hawk Green was a warrior who would risk his life for all magic wizards!
Martin simply closed his eyes in despair, not understanding what had happened.
Even if there are a few heartless individuals, he can understand, because people are diverse, and there will inevitably be those who are insatiable and greedy. Such people will do everything possible to strengthen themselves, to gather all power, influence, and benefits for themselves, and then put on a veneer of respectability.
But the vast majority of people are kind, gentle, and know right from wrong; they are people who have experienced the baptism of freedom and justice! Why do they listen to Hawke Greene as if they are bewitched?
He couldn't understand, but he was certain that Hawke Green couldn't do what he said. Only one person could fulfill Hawke Green's vision: Lane Welsh, the one who had pulled them out of the mire.
"With magic, we can roam freely in the Muggle world! We can use the power of Muggles to our advantage!"
Hawke was still outlining his plans, his words brimming with confidence.
Still lost in his worries, Martin felt something was amiss, but couldn't quite put his finger on what it was.
Seeing that Martin still didn't react, Hawke directed everyone to step forward: "Martin, you've got some sense! Recognize the situation, don't side with the minority, obey the majority's opinion! You'll have a good ending!"
Martin finally came to his senses, his lips trembling with unspeakable fear, like someone who hadn't done their homework during the holidays and was playing on the computer when they suddenly found their parents standing behind them.
Hawke thought he was scared, and a smile had just formed on his lips when he heard him ask, "Why would you say that having magic means you can dominate the Muggle world!"
