Chapter 87 Great Joy and Prosperity
As Ryan descended the stairs, he sat down among the group of Hoz students, facing the young wizards' low, excited questions and the puzzled glances from the older wizards.
He nodded slightly, then shook his head.
Nodding means admitting it was one's own tactic, shaking one's head means saying "I don't know, don't ask me."
He has attracted everyone's attention since he appeared, even overshadowing the host, Vio, at one point.
So basically, all those who were paying attention saw Ryan nod and shake his head.
"Is this the Soul Reaper's Curse?" Penelope mouthed.
"How could that be? I can't modify an Unforgivable Curse of that level right now. What I just used was a modified version of the Chokehold and Confusion Curse," Ryan said.
Simplifying or even modifying the effects of the Imperius Curse is an extremely difficult challenge.
Moreover, black magic is called black magic because these spells can have an irreversible impact on a wizard's mental state, the nature of their magic, and a range of other factors.
The three Unforgivable Curses are the pinnacle of dark magic, representing the pinnacle of its wisdom. They not only have a profound impact on wizards but also lack counter-curses, making them extremely dangerous.
Ryan's talent wasn't in dark magic; using dark magic or the Unforgivable Curse wasn't much more powerful than ordinary magic.
He's always been too lazy to do things that are thankless and difficult, and if he really used the Imperius Curse to control Carlo, it would probably reach Dumbledore's ears before the banquet was even over.
I remember chatting with Dumbledore once, and we talked about dark magic and the Unforgivable Curse.
At the time, Ryan claimed that all spells could be used in the same way, and that a Fireball spell would cause more damage than Voldemort's Happy Gourd Curse.
That was around the third year of high school, when Dumbledore was still evaluating Lane and didn't trust him as much as he does now.
So he simply nodded noncommittally without commenting.
Penelope responded with an "oh," and was much relieved to hear Ryan say that he hadn't used the Unforgivable Curse.
Vio did not sit down with them. He stood at the corner of the stairs, holding the handrail, and said to the banquet hall, "I am Vio Selwyn."
He will assume the position of head of the Selwyn family effective today.
The guests in the banquet hall, whether sincere or not, all applauded enthusiastically.
He continued, "There's something else I need to tell everyone. Starting today, I will be taking over the communication device business in the Tower of Fantasy."
This news did not cause as much of a stir as before, because most people only obtained information about the communicator through various channels.
But out of politeness, everyone still applauded enthusiastically.
Vio didn't take it seriously. The real test would come when these people actually faced the communicators and the profits of the industry behind them.
He then gave an impromptu speech about his succession as clan chief.
Thank you Hogwarts, thank you Headmaster, thank you Dean, and thank you to the other wizards in the family for stepping down.
He thanked everyone until they were all drowsy before ending his speech.
As the banquet began, the upper class, amidst the clinking of glasses, couldn't help but cast their gazes toward the jovial young wizard.
Perhaps in the eyes of the upper class, making such a loud noise at a dinner party is impolite and not classy enough.
But at that moment, no one dared to make a sound.
With Carlo's example serving as a cautionary tale, no one is willing to test the waters with their own dough.
"Lucius, shouldn't you do something about your son?" Someone walked up to Lucius Malfoy with a wine glass in hand.
He gestured with his eyes to Malfoy, who was frolicking and playing with other members of the adventurers' club, saying, "Such behavior is far from aristocratic."
Lucius didn't look at his son; instead, he kept staring at Ryan, who was surrounded by all the young wizards.
"So you're worried about some fifth-grader with a somewhat hollow reputation? This isn't the noble Malfoy I know!"
But the reverse psychology didn't work; Lucius wasn't fooled: "Draco's still a child. Why take it so seriously?"
The speaker was dumbfounded. Who was it that was constantly teaching his children to obey his orders without the slightest care? Wasn't it Lucius Malfoy in front of him?
The man wanted to offer some more advice, but he was suddenly met with Snape's emotionless gaze and immediately forgot what he was about to say.
"Thank you, Professor Snape, for coming," Vio said to Snape.
"You are, after all, a Slytherin student, so it's only right and proper that I come here." Snape spoke much more politely to his outstanding Slytherin student.
"But it seems you could have kept things under control even without me." He looked at the group of young wizards wolfing down their food, and to be honest...
He was startled when these people slammed their fists on the table and stood up.
"I almost thought you were all Gryffindors at some point. It's a pity, Mr. Potter, you're a beat slower than people when you're slamming your fist on the table." As he spoke, Snape habitually mentioned Harry Potter.
Ryan shrugged. Regarding Snape, he couldn't do anything about the verbal reprimand of Harry; he couldn't get a word in edgewise about that part of the story, nor could he.
Vio was unaware of what had happened back then, so he wanted to take this opportunity to advise the dean. He just began to say, "Dean—"
Snape raised a hand to signal him to stop. "Today you're the host, so I'll take you to say a few words to those well-dressed upper-class gentlemen."
This clearly shows that he was afraid Vio wouldn't be recognized as the clan leader, so he personally brought Vio along.
Others might look down on a fifth-year wizard, but they would never have the slightest bit of negative emotion when facing an outstanding student introduced by the top potions master in the British wizarding world.
Vio was overjoyed upon hearing this and quickly stood up: "That would be too biased towards Dean Lao!"
The two engaged in social interaction that adults enjoy.
At the round table where the Hogwarts students were gathered, everyone was talking about how they had suddenly discovered their brothers were rich kids.
"Merlin! Senior Vio's family is so rich!"
"Look! Many important figures from the Ministry of Magic have come to participate!"
"Looks like even if we can't find jobs after graduation, we won't have to worry about not being able to afford food," someone joked.
"We can't find jobs? I'm afraid someone has already arranged them for us."
Everyone looked at Ryan. Those clueless wizards didn't understand what the communicator meant. But how could those who had personally experienced and participated in its design not know what it meant?
This huge workload was directly assigned to Senior Vio!
Moreover, as everyone has heard, Senior Ryan has built a fantasy tower in Diagon Alley with nine floors, and he specifically mentioned that there will be more tasks that need everyone's help to manage in the future.
They will lose their jobs unless the wizarding world goes bankrupt.
"George, Fred, if you two are planning a night out, come to the Adventurers' Club." Ryan, unfazed by the stares of everyone practically begging to kneel and call him godfather, decided to strike while the iron was hot. He wanted to first clarify the daunting task of game development and operation with the Weasley twins.
Once the communicator goes on sale, it will be automatically linked to the game "Academy Kill".
He planned to teach the Weasley brothers the secrets to running a thriving game tonight.
