Chapter 262: The Power Within the Rift
Chapter 262: The Power Within the Rift
After the rift at the pivot of fate was repaired, the connection between dimensions temporarily returned to stability. However, the unknown force behind the rift did not completely dissipate, seemingly hidden in the depths of the universe, silently watching the guardians' every step. The aftershocks of the rift still lingered at the edges of dimensions; although their intensity had weakened, their existence indicated that the crisis was far from over.
“We repaired the rift, but we only delayed the outbreak of the problem.” Lysa gripped his spear, his gaze fixed intently on the pivot of fate. “The power behind the rift is still gathering, and it is waiting for the next eruption.”
The Arbiter's voice was deep and firm: "This is not the end. The source of the rift still lies hidden between dimensions, and its power cannot be easily eliminated. We must continue to delve deeper and find the true root of the problem."
A warning came from the core of the star chart: "The rifts between dimensions still exist; you have only repaired a part of them. These rifts are manifestations of the deep laws of the universe, and their existence is beyond our comprehension. Perhaps, the most fundamental secrets of the universe are hidden within these rifts."
“Within the rifts…” Kane murmured to himself, gripping his twin blades tightly. “These rifts are not just scars on the universe; they are more like doors, connecting to unknown dimensions and powers.”
Just as the guardians were contemplating their next move, the space near the pivot of fate suddenly fluctuated violently once more. A blinding light erupted from the center of the rift, and the surrounding space seemed to be distorted by some force, generating an irresistible attraction. Everyone felt a call from the depths of the rift, a feeling both strange and familiar, as if the very origin of the universe was beckoning them.
"What's going on?" Lysa gripped his spear tightly, trying to steady himself, but the attraction grew stronger and stronger. "The power of the rift hasn't completely disappeared; it's trying to reopen it."
“This is not an ordinary energy fluctuation.” The observer’s voice was tinged with surprise. “This is the power deep within the rift actively manifesting itself, seemingly in response to our presence.”
Kane's expression turned grave. "A response? These cracks have been trying to devour everything; how could they possibly respond to us on their own?"
“Perhaps the power deep within the rift is not as simple as we imagine.” The Arbiter’s gaze was fixed on the rift, his voice low but calm. “It may not just be a destroyer of the universe; it may have other purposes.”
“Whatever its purpose, we cannot allow it to continue to spread.” Lysa said as she approached the rift, her spear glowing with the energy of the star map. “We must figure out what’s hidden behind the rift, or all our efforts will be in vain.”
The Guardians decided to confront this power head-on. They gathered all their energy and ventured deep into the rift. The space inside was unlike anything they had ever experienced before; there were no clear boundaries, only endless void and shimmering light. With each step forward, they felt an oppressive force from all directions, a pressure that transcended the material realm, as if the very laws of the universe were staring down upon them.
“This doesn’t seem like an ordinary dimension.” Kane looked around warily. “The space here is fluid, and time seems to have no rules.”
“This is the interior of the rift, and also the edge of the laws of the universe.” The observer’s voice carried a hint of tension. “This place connects multiple dimensions, and every direction may lead to an unknown world.”
"Where are we going?" the Arbiter asked, his twin blades gleaming faintly, appearing particularly small in this void.
“Ahead.” Lysa’s voice was firm, her gaze fixed on a huge figure of light and shadow ahead. “There is a power calling to us there. I can feel it. It is the core of this rift.”
The guardians approached the light and shadow, but as they drew closer, the pressure intensified. Every step they took seemed to be a struggle against the laws of the universe, and the air was filled with suffocating energy fluctuations.
When the guardians reached the center of the light and shadow, they finally saw the core of the rift. In that void, a massive vortex of energy slowly rotated, and at its center was a crystal that shone with an eerie light. The crystal did not seem to be ordinary matter; its surface was covered with complex runes, which resembled fragments of cosmic language and contained indescribable power.
"This is the core of the rift?" Kane stared at the crystal in shock. "It doesn't look like the source of the destruction, but rather like some kind of nexus."
The observer's voice grew even heavier: "This is no ordinary energy core; it is part of the laws of the universe. Its existence is the cause of the rift's formation and the root of its spread."
"Part of the law?" Lessa repeated softly, her eyes filled with doubt. "Then why would it cause such destruction?"
"Because its power has gone out of control." The Arbiter's voice was calm and decisive. "This crystal was originally supposed to be the core that maintains the balance of the universe, but now its power has been released by the cracks and has become the source of destruction."
“So our task is to restore it to balance.” Lysa gripped his spear tightly, his gaze resolute. “Only in this way can the rift be completely sealed.”
Just as the guardians were preparing to act, the crystal suddenly emitted a burst of intense light. A consciousness surged from the crystal and entered the guardians' minds directly.
"Who... disturbed my slumber..." The voice of that consciousness was deep and resonant, as if it pierced through time and space, landing directly in the depths of their souls.
"Who are you?" Lysa gripped his spear tighter, his eyes filled with wariness. "Are you the owner of this crystal?"
"I am a fragment of the laws of the universe," the voice said slowly. "I am the origin of the rifts and the connector between dimensions."
“A Connector?” Kane frowned. “Why would your existence cause a rift? Do you know you are disrupting the order of the universe?”
“My existence should not be touched.” There was a hint of helplessness in the crystal’s voice. “The rifts are formed because the balance between dimensions has been broken. My power is getting out of control, and your intervention has exacerbated this loss of control.”
"Then what should we do?" The Arbiter's gaze was cold. "We don't want to destroy you, but to repair these cracks and restore balance to the universe."
"The price to repair the rift will be enormous," the crystal's voice was deep and cold. "If you cannot bear that price, do not lightly touch my power."
Lessa took a deep breath, her eyes filled with unwavering determination. "Whatever the cost, we must repair the rift. The future of the universe does not allow us to back down."
The crystal's light gradually dimmed, and its voice echoed like a whisper: "Very good... If you are ready, accept my trial... Let my power return to balance."
With the crystal's last words, the space at the core of the rift trembled violently, and the guardians were enveloped by a powerful force, entering a completely unknown realm.
