Chapter 41 Only one person can survive.
Chapter 41 Only one person can survive.
The likelihood of someone from the East End submitting their resume to a company like Ciennis Investments is virtually zero.
People from such places understand the importance of money early on. For them, survival is much harder than life, and they would never waste their money on so-called future prospects and knowledge.
Whether I'll even live to see tomorrow is uncertain, so how can I have the time and spare money to waste at school?
It's not that they're stupid or short-sighted, but it's just that it's really too difficult to translate knowledge and education into reality. Even children from ordinary families have to carry years of loan debt to repay tuition fees, let alone people from the East District who are in even worse economic conditions.
In other places, defaulting on a loan might only result in being chased by debt collectors, but in the Eastern District, taking out a loan is a high-risk activity that could potentially lead to death.
Sinnis wouldn't judge Jung Eun as the person he's looking for just because she lives in the East District.
It's not impossible for a foolish and ignorant outsider to accidentally move into the East District, especially since Zheng En is a foreigner.
But the interview that morning was... a pleasant surprise for him.
Siennis watched the chaotic battle on the screen with admiration. After a brief exchange, everyone realized Zheng En's strength and spontaneously gathered around him, trying to unite and defeat their most powerful rival.
No one could defeat him in a one-on-one fight, and the school of fish was gathering to attack the catfish.
Siennis liked this scene; he looked forward to the fish tearing apart the catfish, and he also looked forward to the catfish tearing apart the fish.
The dimly lit office was illuminated only by a few half-broken incandescent bulbs, providing some light for everyone present.
Blood seeped down the fabric and onto the floor, the crimson hue swallowed by the darkness. No one noticed where they were standing; those who fell couldn't get up and were thus removed from the battlefield.
With Jung Eun around, no one cares whether the people who are defeated are dead or not; they are all focused on defeating Jung Eun.
Everyone knows that only one person will make it out alive tonight.
"What a bunch of lunatics."
While complaining to his mentor Batman, Zheng En dodged the attacks of those around him. Dealing with a few people who hadn't learned martial arts was nothing to him; Batman had already called the police for him when he got out of the car, so he was just stalling for time.
Otherwise, it would be so embarrassing if he finished dealing with all these people and the police only arrived after everyone had left, and he couldn't even catch a whiff of their exhaust fumes.
Perhaps realizing he had been releasing water, the voice came over the loudspeaker again.
"The prize money has been increased to one million. Now, the countdown begins in half an hour. If anyone other than the winner is still alive, no one will receive the position or the prize money."
Damn it.
Zheng En was helpless. These words caused the hatred level on his body to soar instantly, and the others who were still standing wanted to attack him fiercely.
Once human nature is compromised, it's very difficult to go back to the way it was.
The confined space, the dark environment, the concealed identities, and the huge reward—Siennis had arranged enough conditions to make them lose their rationality; the people lying on the ground were the fuse.
Since we've already killed someone, we must kill them all.
Although that was only what they thought they had killed.
Zheng En understood their thoughts, but he was not a pushover. The more fiercely they attacked, the harder it was for him to control his counterattack. So he simply stopped controlling himself and beat everyone else who was still standing until they could no longer stand up.
After he finished beating the man, Batman released new information.
"Gordon and the others are almost here."
Judging by the time, they left the GCPD in a hurry about ten minutes earlier than expected, roughly after Batman called the police.
Thanks to her advanced level of reconnaissance and counter-reconnaissance skills honed through numerous missions, Jung Eun accurately located the security camera that Seannis had installed in the office.
After he finished hitting the person, he was the only one left standing on the field, and his every move was closely watched by the crowd behind the camera.
Jung Eun swaggered up to the camera and asked, "Is it okay now?"
He stood there casually, staring intently at the camera, as if he could see through the screen to the people watching behind him.
Even though they knew he was speaking to Siennis and that the other person couldn't see anything, the employees gathered in Kane Building couldn't help but feel a chill.
They all joined the company in this way, and gathering to watch the new employees "onboard" has become part of the company's team building activities.
Everyone signed the agreement, everyone shared the sin, and when this sin was diluted and distributed among everyone, no one cared about the weight of life anymore.
Sinnis was a cunning man who made everyone his accomplices. The entire company had the same mouth, and what that mouth said was entirely up to his will.
"Not enough. I said, only one person can survive."
The voice came from deep within the office. Jung Eun turned to look at the source of the sound, and a man wearing a demon samurai mask emerged from the darkness.
It's Siennis.
He was wearing a mask, but Jung Eun could recognize him at a glance despite his crude disguise.
Siennis was holding a long knife.
"This is a treasure I obtained from an antique dealer in Japan." He slowly drew his knife, the sharp blade gleaming eerily in the flickering light.
"It is said that this is a cursed sword that must drink blood once it is drawn, Muramasa."
Through the eyes of the demon mask, Siennis could deeply observe Jung Eun's expression.
This is a top-quality catfish.
But as the chosen one, he was too indecisive and his hands were bound by worldly conventions.
Siennis felt obligated to liberate this lost soul.
He threw the knife over.
"Go, unleash your true nature here."
Seeing Zheng En grip the knife handle, Siannis became even more excited. "Bloody, violent, barbaric. Kill them, and you will be free."
Not wanting to get cut, Jung Eun quickly grabbed the hilt of the knife: "..."
I never said I was going to use this knife to kill someone.
Seeing Siennis looking at him expectantly, Jung Eun felt a surge of pressure and mentally asked Batman, "Why hasn't the GCPD arrived yet?"
"Knock knock knock!"
Someone started banging on the door, followed by the sound of it opening. Siennis turned, glaring angrily, only to meet his secretary's anxious gaze. "Boss, let's go! The police are here!"
The sound of police sirens rang out outside, just as was expected. Sinnis frowned, glanced at the people lying on the ground, and then gave orders to Jung Eun.
"Quickly, kill them! Only the dead can keep secrets!"
"Clang!"
Jung Eun released his grip, and the legendary demon sword Muramasa fell to the ground. Facing the incredulous gaze of Seinnis, he shrugged, "I never said I was going to keep any secrets."
"The more you talk, the clearer things become, right?"
Siennis trembled with rage. "So it was you!"
He stepped forward to snatch the demon sword, but Zheng En realized what the other was trying to do and picked it up from the ground first.
Suddenly, the blade pierced through the flesh.
