Chapter 106 Mr. C's New Mission
After hearing Ryan's report, Leonard Mitchell guessed that someone was impersonating him.
However, the "role-playing method" is not fully publicized within the church, which is why he described today's extraordinary event as someone amusing themselves.
As for which sequence of Beyonder was playing the role, Leonard first thought of Beyonders of the "Acquirer" pathway, but what happened today did not seem to match the descriptions of the potion names he knew.
Then he thought of the "living" individuals through the "prisoner" pathway, and he knew that Raphael had most likely already been promoted.
"Living zombies".
But Leonard felt that the "zombie" act didn't need to be so complicated. He sat up from the hospital bed, startling everyone, and it seemed like the whole act could end there.
So the subsequent exhumation of the corpses and bathing in the formaldehyde pool, while escalating the horror, seemed unnecessary.
Thinking about this, Leonard was certain that it was Raphael's doing, because no one could understand the thoughts of a madman.
He said to Ryan, who was standing to the side, "They should have left already—never mind, I'll go with you."
He estimated that Raphael left immediately after his performance.
But then he remembered that this guy had killed an official Extraordinary, so Leonard decided to go with Ryan to see for himself.
Once at the hospital, Leonard glanced at the morgue and pointed to a box containing corpses, saying, "He was lying in this box manipulating those two bodies. Well, thankfully you didn't act impulsively. If you had fired, you might have been attacked by him."
The two members of the "Night Watch" team exchanged glances. In that sense, they had to thank Dr. Vincent.
Only after confirming that the other party had left did Leonard take a carriage back.
As soon as I entered the office, I saw one of my colleagues, wearing red gloves, waiting there.
Leonard took a deep breath. He'd been really busy lately. After finishing the "Night Watch" case, there was still the "Red Gloves" case waiting for him: "Damn Fursacmen."
Then he asked, "What's the matter?"
The colleague exclaimed "Huh?", not quite understanding why Leonard would curse the Fursac people, but he didn't delve into it. Instead, he replied, "An extraordinary case has occurred in the western suburbs of Backlund. A week ago, the colleague in charge of the case also went missing in the vicinity."
"You've been instructed to conduct another thorough investigation. Here's the case file."
As they were talking, the other person handed the file to Leonard.
The reason Leonard cursed the Fussacks was because he would still be living a relatively leisurely life if those guys hadn't launched the sneak attack.
That's the kind of life he likes.
Leonard took the file: "I'll take a look at the file first, and then go to the scene tomorrow or the day after."
The colleague agreed and left, while Leonard turned on the gas light and began reading the scroll.
At this point, the advantage of the "sleepless" approach became apparent. Although a large number of "night watchmen" and "red gloves" were transferred away, they only needed to sleep three or four hours a day. Everyone worked overtime as a group, and surprisingly, no work was delayed.
Raphael opened the apartment door, and his intuition immediately led him to discover a letter on the windowsill.
He smiled and asked the two puppets, "Who sent that letter?"
Of course, no one answered him.
Raphael then said, "Oh, it's Mr. C."
Talking to himself, Raphael went to the window, opened the envelope, and sure enough, it was a letter from Mr. C.
This was certainly not something the doll told him; he guessed it.
The letter contained only an address, a date, and four numbers.
So in the middle of the night, Raphael climbed to the roof and ran like a parkour master.
To conserve energy, they took a horse-drawn carriage for a portion of the journey, then continued running until they arrived at a townhouse in the western district. This was the address Mr. C had left in his letter.
Raphael carefully observed his surroundings and, after confirming that no one was watching him on the street, quickly walked to the door.
Raphael began knocking, following the numbers in the letter. He knocked three times, paused, then knocked five times, then two times and then seven times.
The door opened a crack, and Raphael saw Logan.
This is a "hermit" who gained an enhanced vision ability in the "Listeners" sequence. When Raphael officially joined the group, Logan checked Raphael's condition before taking him to see Mr. C.
Later, under Mr. C's organization, Raphael had several casual conversations with the other party and thus became acquainted with him.
Neither of them spoke, but they exchanged glances.
Logan closed the door and led Raphael into a small room where Mr. C and three other important members were present.
The atmosphere was somewhat oppressive. Raphael didn't speak first and sat down on one of the sofas.
After scrutinizing Raphael for a moment, Mr. C suddenly asked with a grim face, "You got promoted?"
The others all looked at Raphael.
It's highly unusual that a key member of the Aurora Society was attacked while Raphael was promoted.
Although no one explained anything to Raphael, the fact that everyone was on high alert at the gathering spoke volumes.
He smiled and said, "I was almost killed by a 'zombie' from the 'Rose School,' but luckily I bought that magical item at the previous gathering, so I ended up killing that 'zombie' instead."
The people present had all attended that gathering and knew that Raphael had bought a magical item that was comparable to that of a "hypnotist".
If you had that item, you could indeed turn the tables and kill a "living person".
As a result, the way people looked at Raphael was no longer as wary as before.
Mr. C said, "Everyone's here, let's begin."
He told everyone that in the past ten days or so, the "Aurora Society" had been attacked by the "Punishers," and two "Middle Sequence" members, along with their downlines, had been killed.
The others knew perfectly well that the "Substitute Punisher's" attack was because Raphael's previous "message" had angered the group of irritable "sailors."
Instead of blaming Raphael, people looked at him with a hint of respect; the enemy's retaliation was an affirmation of Raphael's abilities.
Raphael, on the other hand, estimated that the reason why the "Punisher" was able to find the two "middle sequence" members so accurately was partly due to his own efforts, since he had given Audrey portraits of everyone here.
After discussing this matter, Mr. C said to Raphael, "Now that you've been promoted, the tasks I assigned to you before are no longer as dangerous."
He said coldly, "Because of the 'Substitute Punisher' dragging things out, the original rescue mission has turned into a mission to recover extraordinary characteristics."
"Two weeks ago, we discovered a site on the western outskirts of Backlund. Ms. S was ordered to explore it, and the next day, we lost contact with her."
