Chapter 183 Sudden Explosion
Chapter 183 Sudden Explosion
"Training his body?" Yan Shuo sneered, his tone full of disdain and mockery. "What's the point of him training now? He's already on the verge of death, what's the point of him messing around? It's a complete waste of energy."
Su Ling couldn't help but chuckle softly, her tone tinged with a hint of helplessness: "Hehe, a person has to do something every day they live, right? Maybe he wants to live a few more days, or maybe he's just used to exercising. Who knows?"
"What a waste of air!" Yan Shuo cursed without any politeness, his eyes growing even colder. "Every day we keep him around, there's another potential threat."
"Who says otherwise?" Su Ling echoed, her tone tinged with urgency. "I'm also hoping he comes out soon so we can pinpoint his location and deal with him in one fell swoop. Otherwise, we'll have to keep an eye on him every day, wasting manpower and resources. This guy really knows how to cause trouble."
"Hmph, the more cunning the agent, the more interesting they are, aren't they?" Yan Shuo's lips curled into a cold smile, his tone playful yet resolute. "Now it's a test of patience. He can't hide in the Special Higher Police forever; he'll eventually slip up. By the way, you've shown Feng Yaodong's photo to everyone on missions out there, haven't you?"
"Yes, yes, I've given them to them." Su Ling nodded quickly. "Not only Feng Yaodong's photo, but Gao Bin's photo was also given to us. All of our hundreds of people in Shanghai, whether they're undercover or in the open, have seen the photos of both of them. Everyone knows their faces by heart. Gao Bin previously worked in the logistics department of the Shanghai station, so we have his file in the archives. Of course, we can find a clear photo of him without any trouble. Hmph, if they dare to disguise themselves, they might be able to get away with it, but if they come out naked, they're asking for death. Our people will definitely recognize them."
"Haha! Well done!" Yan Shuo couldn't help but laugh, his tone unusually approving. "That's how it should be. It's better to mistake him for someone else than to let him go. We can't give him any chance to escape."
After laughing, Yan Shuo composed himself, his tone becoming serious again: "That's about it. Is there anything else you want to tell me?"
"No, that's all. That's about it." Su Ling shook her head and asked, "But you, is there anything else you'd like me to do?"
"Oh, there really is something." Yan Shuo thought for a moment and said in a calm tone, "At the US Embassy in Shanghai, there's a military attaché named Jack Vaughn. Have someone arrest him. I have something to ask him."
Su Ling paused, a hint of doubt on her face, and quickly asked, "What is it? Jack Vaughn is an American military attaché. We are allies with the United States. Wouldn't arresting him rashly cause a diplomatic incident? Besides, what could an American military attaché possibly have that would warrant your personal questioning?"
"What's there to be afraid of!" Yan Shuo sneered, his tone full of disdain and indifference. "Just catch him, interrogate him, and then kill him. Who would know it was us? People die every day in Shanghai. One more or one less won't make a difference."
He paused, then added, "When you make your move, dress up as Japanese soldiers, put on some makeup, and speak in a manner that sounds like a Japanese person. If any word gets out, frame the Japanese for it and let them argue with the Americans. We'll reap the benefits."
Su Ling suddenly realized and nodded: "Oh, I understand. So, after capturing and killing him, what should we do with the body? Throw it in the Japanese-occupied area of the concession?"
"That's too deliberate; it'll easily arouse suspicion." Yan Shuo shook his head and said meticulously, "Burn the body directly, leaving no trace, but keep Jack's clothes that bear his personal identification. Dispose of these clothes in the Japanese-occupied area of the concession. That way, when the Americans find his clothes, they'll only suspect the Japanese, and they definitely won't trace it back to us. I believe it will be quite interesting."
"Yes, this is a good idea. It's safe and it can also frame someone else." Su Ling nodded in agreement. "Then who do you think is suitable to do this? This matter must be done cleanly and efficiently, and it must be discreet enough to leave no evidence."
"Liu Kuai," Yan Shuo said without hesitation. "No one else is suitable. He's ruthless and dirty enough. I trust him the most to handle these shady things. He'll definitely handle them cleanly and without any mistakes."
"Okay, I'll go call him now and arrange for him to do this. Make sure to tell him to keep a good disguise and not give himself away," Su Ling replied.
"Okay, go ahead." Yan Shuo waved his hand and said in a flat tone.
Su Ling nodded and was about to turn and leave when she seemed to suddenly remember something. She wrote a note, handed it to Yan Shuo, and said softly in a gentler tone, "By the way, this is my private address. Not many people know it. If you want to find me privately, just call me and I'll come over tonight. I don't usually stay there all the time; I only stay there every few days. If you go and can't find me, just leave me a message."
Yan Shuo reached out and took the note, glanced at it, wrote it down, and said, "Okay, I understand. Go ahead, but don't let anything go wrong."
"Don't worry, it won't happen." Su Ling smiled, a hint of tenderness in her eyes, turned and gently closed the office door before quickly leaving to arrange the various matters Yan Shuo had instructed.
Silence returned to the office. Yan Shuo closed his eyes, his mind racing as he planned the next steps. All potential problems had to be eliminated one by one. The Shanghai station was now entirely under his control.
"Boom!—"
A muffled explosion suddenly came from outside the window. Even through the thick walls, one could feel a slight tremor. Judging from the direction, it was about two streets away, not very close, but loud enough to be jarring.
Yan Shuo opened his eyes instantly, his expression hardening. The previous languor and fatigue vanished. He got up and quickly walked to the window, pushed it open, and then ran to the balcony in the corridor, looking up in the direction from which the explosion had come.
On the distant horizon, a thick plume of black smoke billowed up like a giant black pillar, shooting straight into the sky. With the help of a weak wind, it drifted slowly in the southeast direction, and faint flickering lights could be seen below the smoke.
"Hongxi!" Yan Shuo didn't turn around. His tone was deep and urgent. His voice wasn't loud, but it carried an unquestionable command.
"Sir!" Ma Hongxi's voice immediately came from the stairwell. He had been waiting outside the office door, and upon hearing the call, he quickly stepped forward and stood respectfully behind Yan Shuo.
Yan Shuo pointed to the direction from which the black smoke was rising and ordered in a deep voice, "Go and see what happened there. Look carefully to see if there are any suspicious persons, and whether the explosion was deliberate or accidental. Come back and report as soon as possible."
"Yes!" Ma Hongxi replied respectfully. He glanced in the direction Yan Shuo pointed, and after seeing the location of the black smoke, he didn't ask any more questions. He turned around and quickly went downstairs. A moment later, the sound of a car starting up could be heard downstairs, speeding towards the direction of the explosion.
