Chapter 90: The Long Spear Regiment and the Raven Regiment
Chapter 90: The Long Spear Regiment and the Raven Regiment
"That is a problem," Jiang Gan said thoughtfully upon hearing this.
"Your Excellency, I have an idea. Tonight, I will invite them all here, and during the gathering, I would like you to persuade them to submit to His Majesty. If any of them disagree, I will give them this!"
As he spoke, Bloodbeard made a chopping gesture with his hand.
"Hmm, I think it's possible, but do they dare to come? You just said you fought a fierce battle with the Long Spear Regiment." Jiang Gan nodded in agreement first, then asked.
"Perhaps I could impersonate an envoy from the Iron Treasury and say that I'm bringing a new sum of money to the three of you, intending to help you put aside past unpleasantness and unite to resist the enemy. That way, they might not suspect anything."
Jiang Gan asked himself the question and answered it.
Bloodbeard readily agreed; given his intelligence, coming up with "treating someone to dinner" was already quite an achievement.
As for harming guests, Bloodbeard didn't care at all. Not to mention that he wasn't a nobleman yet, even if he were, in his simple mind, wouldn't it be enough to just not give guests bread and salt?
Jiang Gan was politely invited by Bloodbeard's confidant to rest temporarily in the tent next door.
Bloodbeard immediately sent men to the camps of the Long Spear Regiment and the Raven Regiment, inviting them to a banquet that evening.
The matter was handled exceptionally smoothly. Gillo Reha and Dario had little suspicion and each brought twenty or thirty trusted men, arriving at the Cat Band's camp on time that evening.
Upon entering Bloodbeard's tent, Dario glanced around and immediately sensed something was amiss; there were far too many people inside.
There were more than twenty people sitting in two rows, and the way they were looking at the two of them gave Dario a bad feeling.
Dario instinctively looked back. His men were currently isolated outside. If Bloodbeard wanted to attack the two of them, it would be an easy task.
Gillo Reha, on the other hand, seemed completely unconcerned.
Behind him stood a thousand brothers of the Long Spear Regiment. Although Bloodbeard had three thousand men under his command, they were all infantry. His Long Spear Regiment, though only a thousand strong, included a full six hundred cavalrymen.
That night, his spear regiment suffered a hidden loss. If both sides had taken their positions and formed their battle formations, he, Gillo Reha, was confident that he could have crushed the three thousand men of the Cat Regiment head-on!
Relying on his formidable strength, Gilo Reha didn't take the owner of this place seriously at all.
Contrary to his usual behavior, Bloodbeard extended a hearty invitation to the two to sit down.
But both ignored him; Gillo had a grudge against Bloodbeard, and Dario went straight to the point:
"Where is the messenger from the Iron Treasury?"
He wouldn't knowingly stay in danger while pretending to be polite, knowing that something might be wrong with Bloodbeard. At this moment, Dario just wanted to collect the money as soon as possible and leave the Cat Band's base with his men.
Seeing that the two men were not giving him face, Bloodbeard immediately stopped pretending and clapped his hands.
Jiang Gan then appeared before the two of them.
"Are you an envoy from the Iron Treasury? Please hand over the gold to me quickly, my lads are getting impatient," Gillo said casually to the newcomer.
Jiang Qian smiled but did not answer.
"Rest assured, Your Excellency, when the time comes for a crisis, our Long Spear Regiment will take action. You understand, cavalry always strikes at crucial moments to inflict the greatest casualties on the enemy."
Seeing that the envoy remained silent, Jiluo assumed that the other party was dissatisfied with their inaction and immediately offered words of comfort.
Of course, sending troops was out of the question; his spear regiment was his main asset.
Anyway, Braavos is so rich that he might have already hired the Golden Company. In any case, Gillo doesn't believe that the Dragon Clan's army is really capable of invading Braavos, who has an iron treasury.
Now that his life was out of danger, Gillo decided to take his employer's money without doing any work.
Like the ambitious Bloodbeard, Gillo also harbored the idea of making a fortune, recruiting soldiers, and dominating the region.
He almost loved the war. With the money from the Iron Treasury, his spear regiment was able to incorporate several small mercenary groups, expanding its strength to a thousand men.
If the fighting continues, his spear regiment might be able to expand its manpower even further. Hmm, those few small mercenary groups that couldn't reach an agreement with him these past few days were just short of money, right? Now that the Iron Treasury has sent gold, he'll go find them again.
Gillo still dreamed of expanding and strengthening his spear regiment, and creating new glories.
Jiang Gan then spoke up, bursting the bubble called fantasy.
"I am the rightful king of the Seven Kingdoms, the Protector of Westeros, the King of Pentos, the King of the Plains, the King of Velvet Hills, the Reconqueror, the son of a true dragon, the sole rightful heir to the Iron Throne, and the messenger of His Majesty King Viserys III Targaryen."
Upon hearing Jiang Gan's words, Ji Luo's smile froze on the spot.
Jiro immediately tried to get up, but several core members of the Cat Clan who had been watching his every move suddenly jumped up and put their swords to his neck.
Dario, who was prepared, nimbly got up to avoid the encirclement, and even tripped a giant man who was at least eight feet tall with his bare hands.
Jiang Gan smashed the cup he was holding on the spot, and immediately more than a dozen mercenaries armed with crossbows rushed into the tent, all aiming at Dario.
Faced with a dozen or so crossbows and a group of skilled members of the Cat Clan watching him intently, even the confident Dario dared not make any rash moves.
"Gentlemen, this is His Majesty Visser's envoy. The Braavos ship is about to break down. If you don't think of yourselves, you should think of your brothers and submit to the true dragon as soon as possible."
Bloodbeard took the battle sword handed to him by his subordinate; it was a dark red sword with its blade soaked in blood.
His meaning was very clear: if you agree, everyone will be happy; if you don't agree, you'll become a victim of his blade.
Gillo swallowed hard, his expression shifting between anger and uncertainty.
"Gillow, let me ask you first, will you submit to the true dragon?" Bloodbeard strode up to Gillow, gripping his sword with both hands, as if he would cut off Gillow's head if he said the wrong thing.
"With your Cat Clan of three thousand as insiders, we're enough even without you." Gillo didn't want to get involved in this mess. He could help whoever won, but the Targaryens weren't winning yet.
His spear regiment had won many battles against overwhelming odds.
"I'll ask you one last time, will you submit to the true dragon or not?" Bloodbeard slightly raised his battle sword, and Gillo turned his head away, choked by the pungent, metallic smell emanating from the blade.
Damn it, I'm really screwed this time!
"I...I surrender!"
"Gillow replied."
"Very well, please send someone back to the camp immediately, Commander Gillo, and summon the core members of the Long Spear Regiment. Please understand that this is a special time. When my king conquers Braavos, he will certainly not treat you unfairly."
Jiang Qian smiled and stepped forward, standing next to Bloodbeard.
"Dario, will you submit to the true dragon?" Bloodbeard turned to look at Dario.
