Chapter 413 The Sentinel: Two Negatives Make a Positive Result
Superman, that's right, Superman!
Having just experienced a nightmare about Superman, the first thing Batman thought of upon waking up was naturally Superman.
The things in his subconscious were so vague that Batman only remembered the final moments of that nightmare, when Superman died.
Still shaken, Batman even forgot that Joey was indestructible and quickly looked towards where Superman had been.
In the center of the battle, the ethereal black mist dissipated, and Batman saw a bone that had sprouted from Superman's wrist pierce through his chest, stabbing the zombie Sentinel right through.
This is exactly the same scene Batman saw in his dream, the only difference being that the "role" involved has changed.
Meanwhile, as Batman wakes up, Joey, who has been kicked out of Batman's nightmare, also opens his eyes.
The return of Superman's main consciousness banished the unconscious Doomsday, and the bone spurs that had sprouted from Joey's body shrank from the zombie Sentinel's chest and re-entered his own flesh.
Having withstood this blow, the zombie sentinel emanated boundless energy from the wound in his chest, radiating an ever-brighter brilliance.
As soon as Joey opened his eyes, he saw the zombie sentinel with leaking energy making a "~" sound from its mouth, and its entire body was unnaturally twisting toward the hole that had just been pierced.
If Joey wasn't mistaken, then the zombie sentinels looked like they were about to—
Joey sprang to his feet with a start, roared, and lunged at the zombie sentinel, grabbing its convulsing body and soaring into the sky.
"Get out of the way!"
Joey didn't even bother waiting for Spider-Lantern's green light barrier to disappear, so he simply smashed right through the wall made of all the light of will.
This left him no choice but to be anxious; the current state of the zombie sentinels looked like it was about to explode!
This loud shout also seemed to awaken many Spider-Men who had been affected by the void.
"Oh my god, this is terrible!"
A multitude of Spider-Men chimed in, asking, "Is what you're seeing the same as what I'm seeing?"
"Of course, we are all Peter Parker!"
"Are you all alright?"
"Don't worry, I'm just as good as you!"
"Remind me to stay away from the sentries next time!"
"You want a next time?!"
"Miguel, are you alright?"
"I'm fine!"
Even Miguel O'Hara, who is naturally not fond of smiling, can emerge from the nightmare of his universe 2099 being invaded and destroyed by Doctor Doom.
For these Spider-Men, the deaths of Uncle Ben and Gwen Stacy were both nightmares and the cause and motivation for them to become Spider-Men and continue to move forward on this heroic path.
A true Spider-Man wouldn't be haunted by the nightmares of the past!
The reason Batman was trapped in a nightmare and nearly self-destructed was simply because he experienced things that most other Batmen had not.
Neither the crime alley nor the deadly joke, nor even the loss of his son, could hold him back. But the betrayal of his world's best partner had become a knot in his heart that was hard to untie.
Fortunately, after Joey's one reckless outburst, all of this was over.
Once they regained consciousness, the rings in the hands of the Green Lanterns emitted an emerald green light once more. Having undergone such a baptism in their hearts, they had undoubtedly undergone a sublimation as they once again crossed the darkness, and the overwhelming light of their will was far more powerful than before.
High in the distant sky, Superman dragged the zombie Sentinel out of the atmosphere and away from Earth, but time was still not enough, as the energy inside the Sentinel was surging faster than anyone expected.
Despite his best efforts to contain it with his biofield, the aftershocks of the Sentinel's self-destruction inevitably spilled outwards and spread to the Earth below.
Seeing that the energy within the Sentinel was about to spiral out of control, the members of the Light Clan present pushed their will to its limits, and with New York as the center, layers upon layers of Emerald Light extended to an unimaginable scale.
Above Earth, emerald green light projected another hemisphere, specifically designed to host this unprecedented event.
A far more terrifying wave of energy than any supernova explosion in the history of the universe.
Hang in there!
All the Spider-Lanterns wearing the rings thus engaged in a brief but extremely long tug-of-war, relying on their willpower and the energy bursts within the Sentinels.
The aftershocks of the explosion probably lasted for less than ten seconds, but almost every Spider-Lantern reached or even exceeded their limits.
At this moment, all of Peter Parker's and the other Spider-Men's Spider-Senses resonated with the intertwining of the Green Lantern's will, achieving perfect precision.
The energy shield formed by the green light shattered layer by layer under this earth-shattering energy impact, but was then precisely filled again at intervals of almost one millimeter at the outermost layer.
The relay race went on almost endlessly until finally, everything came to a stop.
"It's finally over!"
All the Spider-Men wiped the sweat from their brows and breathed a sigh of relief.
This spectacular explosion was contained in space by several Spider-Lanterns who were beyond their limits.
The moment the danger was over, Batman had already manipulated the Green Lantern Ring and rushed anxiously into space.
Soon, he found his target in deep space, where Joey, who had just faced the Sentinel's last-minute energy explosion, floated quietly in place.
The zombie sentinels were nowhere to be seen.
On the other end, Johnny the Human Torch, the troublemaker who first discovered the zombie sentinels, was restless: "We can't just stand by and watch, can we? We have to do something—"
"Calm down," Reed said, watching the whole thing through Iron Man's shared vision. "You'd only cause trouble in a fight of this scale."
"Besides," Reed paused, seemingly lost in thought, "we still don't know what caused the Sentinels to become like that. If it's a virus, will it affect other organisms? All of this is unknown."
As the Fantastic Four gathered and discussed their strategy, a bright light flashed in their room, and countless points of light converged at the center, forming a familiar humanoid shape—
sentinel.
"OMG!" The Human Torch jumped up in fright the moment he saw the Sentinel: "Don't bite me!"
"It's me." The sentry's voice echoed deeply, calmer than before.
He is nothingness, the reverse personality of Sentinel Bob. Only when Superman kills him is he finally freed from the inner Sentinel and reassembles himself after the explosion.
"Are you really that—that 'nothingness,' and not Bob?"
The Thunderbolt, who had almost dragged Reed away, boldly approached and asked, "The Void I remember seems to be a little worse than you are now."
As the Sentinel's anti-personality, describing Nothingness as cruel, cold-blooded, treacherous, and evil is an understatement.
The nothingness within the Sentinel is essentially like a psychopath who has episodes of illness from time to time, and this psychopath happens to possess almost the strongest fighting power on Earth.
"That Bob wants to bite half your face off and then devour you alive. Do you want me to let him out now?"
The sentry's words made Thunderbolt shake his head rapidly, like a tornado: "No, no, no, no—nothingness is fine!"
The Sentinel, currently ruled by a void personality, is in a situation much like a joke Johnny once heard somewhere:
A listless and depressed patient became much more energetic after being diagnosed with mental illness.
The current situation should be as follows:
Originally weak-willed, often falling into self-doubt, and some even suffering from schizophrenia, the sentinels were infected with the zombie virus and turned into cold-blooded monsters who would devour anyone they could find.
But the negative personality nihilism that was the opposite of Bob's usual gentle and timid self has now turned into a positive one, and he can communicate with them normally and has become a normal person!
"This is really—"
Reed didn't say the word "outrageous" aloud; hearing this explanation, even if he didn't believe it, he had no choice but to accept it.
This is like adding one bug to a Sentinel that already has a bunch of bugs, and somehow it makes another bug work.
