Chapter 863 Justice Descends from Heaven
On the battlefield in Western Europe, with the complete collapse of the network, Ultron once again lost a portion of its computing power. As the electromagnetic pulse gradually subsided, Tony controlled the Extremis armor to land, and the others gathered around, seeing Tony wearing armor beneath the main armor.
The Extremis armor, Tony Stark's latest creation, was developed after he carefully studied the Extremis virus. He injected himself with the virus and, by injecting a large number of self-repairing nanobots into his body, successfully suppressed the Extremis virus's self-destruction defect.
Tony went even further, storing a large number of nanobots inside his body. Through complete neural connections, he was able to rapidly cover his body surface, forming a suit of armor.
Of course, Tony still hasn't solved the micro-storage problem. The biggest problem with the Extremis armor right now is the lack of defense and firepower. Its thickness is not much different from Peter's nano-spider suit, which is seriously inadequate as armor. Its weapons are only the repulsion cannon in the palm and the arc beam in the chest.
The biggest role this thing currently plays is suppressing the high-temperature defects of the Extremis virus, successfully turning Tony Stark from a man wearing Iron Man armor into a true "Iron Man".
"My defenses have dropped significantly in a short time. We can only hope that Ultron's counterattack won't come so quickly. When I fell, I saw an electromagnetic pulse also occurring to the east. The Winterguards couldn't hold on any longer and had to activate the pulse."
The internet in Eastern Europe also crashed rapidly. Everything seemed to be proceeding according to the Avengers' plan. This made people wonder if everything would really go so smoothly.
"The answer is absolutely not. I can assure you that Ultron has plans to reboot these networks, and possibly faster than anyone imagines."
Tony, clad in his Extremis armor, landed steadily on the ground and poured cold water on the others who were standing there looking quite happy: "Actually, that's how the Avengers' plan was arranged. We designed this script for Ultron: we shut down, Ultron rebooted, it cycled on and on, and then in the end we lost everything in the back-and-forth battle."
"If this is your plan, why are you doing it? It seems very—strange?"
Captain Britain walked over and expressed his confusion, while Tony explained: "Because we want to give Ultron the illusion that everything he does is based on logical analysis, so we need a logically sound and very realistic fake plan to lure Ultron into our trap."
After considering the entire logic, Psylocke countered, "Wouldn't it be possible to let Ultron flip back and calculate another possibility, thus avoiding falling into the trap?"
"He's not human, Miss Psylocke. Ultron is an artificial intelligence." Amadeus stood up, looking at the mess around them, and explained, "Humans think things through repeatedly and hesitate. Artificial intelligence, on the other hand, only calculates the frequency of all possibilities and then finds an optimal solution. But all of this depends on the information being accurate enough."
Conversely, the key to the Avengers' plan lies in the information gap. They need to create a situation where the data Ultron can collect is significantly different from the actual data, luring Ultron into a trap. And this trap is undoubtedly Hank Pym and Avengers Ultron creating some kind of secret weapon to target Ultron, which is why it hasn't appeared yet.
The trap will be activated if Ultron attacks the Avengers base.
The others didn't understand what was being said, but suddenly, Hercules interjected, "No offense, Tin Man, but your plan has probably failed."
"I expected that, but Ultron will definitely—wait, what the heck?"
Just as Tony was explaining his plan, a loud bang came from the sky. Everyone looked up at the sky, trying to find out what made the sound. Then, they saw a huge, edgeless prism falling from the sky, its six sides clearly showing the face of Ultron.
"How did that thing appear?!"
A massive ridge pierced the sky, breaking through the barrier. Tony was completely baffled by its sudden appearance. He immediately charged into the sky at full speed, but before he could fly very high, he saw another pillar appear in the distant east, struggling to break through the atmosphere.
What exactly is that thing?
The sins of Sodom and Gomorrah are so grave that I hear of them. If I find even a hundred righteous men in Sodom, I will forgive the whole country for their sake.
As the massive pillar slowly sank, Ultron's voice echoed from it. Ultron unabashedly quoted from the Bible and posed a rhetorical question to the world: "So where is the righteous?"
"—Does he mean he intends to destroy humanity, just as God punished Sodom and Gomorrah?"
Tony, his face ashen, stared at the falling pillars in the sky as he landed back on the ground. He shook his head, rejecting Captain Britain's answer.
"Absolutely impossible. This conflicts with Ultron's underlying code logic. It's more like a warning. Look at the speed at which these prisms are falling. If Ultron really intended to destroy humanity, one of these things falling to the ground would be enough. This thing is more powerful than lifting the city of Sokovia in Eastern Europe into the sky and then crashing it down."
Captain Britain asked Tony, puzzled, "Why use Sokovia as an example?"
"I don't know, I just did a mental calculation, and this size of city is about right?"
Tony shook his head after speaking, then retracted his visor: "We know Ultron's plan now. He rejected the trap itself and chose to give us a move. Since we've let him choose whether or not to gamble on the trap at the Avengers base, then Ultron is gambling on whether we're willing to believe that his underlying code hasn't evolved to the point where it can wipe out humanity."
It's obvious that the Avengers can't afford to gamble, and nobody can afford to gamble, so everyone, including the Avengers, has to ignore Ultron's missionary work on Earth and go to the sky to destroy the tower.
Hercules scratched his head: "—So, where did these things come from?"
Tony was unwilling to answer the question. The conservation of matter still exists in this world. Ultron could not have conjured up so many enormous, unconcealable cubes out of thin air, unless he was not created in this time at all.
So there's only one explanation left: Kang's time engine on the Tianjian Bureau's mothership.
