Chapter 612 The First Appearance of the Heavenly Sword
The Heavenly Sword Bureau is a research station for humanity to study extraterrestrial civilizations.
For human civilization, the birth of the Sky Sword Bureau is good news in every aspect. Even in terms of saving money, thanks to the future technology brought by Kang, this spaceship requires almost no maintenance and can better replace the gradually aging International Space Station. It can be said that it is very good from all angles.
Not to mention the main gun, which looks incredibly reassuring.
Peter and Cindy arrived there as well.
"Welcome here, Spider-Man, and Agent Webs." Mar-Vell came to greet the two of them.
He no longer concealed his identity, displaying his distinctive blue skin as a Kree.
"I didn't expect S.H.I.E.L.D. to be so open with S.H.I.E.L.D. At first, when I said I might invite a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, I was worried about whether we would run into any trouble."
'
Peter looked at Mar-Vell with some surprise, who simply explained, "SkySword isn't a spy organization; it doesn't have that many secrets."
As for whether that statement was directed at friendly forces, Peter thought it shouldn't be taken too seriously. After all, Nick Fury didn't say anything, and Cindy clearly didn't object.
Ma-Vell smiled apologetically, then looked at them and said, "Let me show you around the area first, and show you some of the things we're currently researching."
"I know the Fantastic Four have their own lab at S.W.O.S.R.D., for better research into cosmic rays," Peter said, recounting what he knew, then looked at Mar-Vell: "I bet there are quite a few similar labs, right?"
"That's right. Let me take you to my lab first; that's where I'm currently working on my project."
Ma-Weil led the two men toward his laboratory, saying as they walked, "You can look out the window; the starry sky is breathtaking the first time you see it. But after a while, it gets quite boring."
Cindy looked out the window. Outside, the universe was dazzling, with various celestial bodies emitting different kinds of brilliant light, forming a magnificent picture that made her feel as if she had fallen into some kind of grand dream.
She sensed that Peter had stopped to wait for her, so she quickly turned around and followed the two men. They soon arrived at Mar-Vell's laboratory.
Just like the perfect world of yesteryear, this place was filled with all sorts of plants. Mar-Vell was a good gardener, but it was clearly not his area of expertise. He led Peter and the others quickly through the plantation and into his laboratory.
Here, Peter saw projections of goblin-like creatures. Seeing Peter's gaze, Ma-Weir laughed.
"This is what I've been researching lately: using Kree technology to develop a device that can detect Skrulls and help humanity resist a potential Skrull invasion."
Peter frowned upon hearing this news. The Skrulls are a race born with a shallow level of telepathy and extremely strong shapeshifting abilities. They can transform themselves, including their own DNA, into the likeness of any other race, thus launching a "secret invasion."
The Kree are the Skrulls' archenemies, each possessing a roughly equal cosmic-scale empire, and the two sides have been fighting for tens of thousands of years. The Kree naturally know just how terrifying the Skrulls' shapeshifting abilities are.
They knew how many of their own worlds they could destroy, so they had long ago figured out how to detect Skrulls.
Peter wholeheartedly agreed with this, but he needed to consider some other issues, so he immediately asked, "I seem to remember you, Mar-Vell, saying that Earth's location in the universe is relatively remote, and neither the Kree Empire nor the Skrull Empire pays much attention to it. Theoretically, the probability of the Skrulls invading Earth is very small, isn't it?"
It was precisely because Earth was remote enough that the Kree chose to conduct human experiments on it.
To create an army with superpowers. After all, it's impossible to conduct such experiments in a place that isn't safe enough.
It is precisely because the Earth is a place that neither country has fought over that it is safe enough.
"That's true, but prevention is better than cure. Actually, this system was driven by Nick Fury; moreover, he hoped to achieve results as soon as possible and expand it worldwide."
Mar-Vell shrugged; he knew, of course, Fury's motives. The Skrulls were indeed terrifying, but Fury was more interested in whether the system could detect any disguise, including Mystique's.
However, Ma-Vell told him that was impossible.
"Of course, I can understand Fury's thinking. A race numbering in the billions, where everyone can flawlessly disguise themselves as human—anyone would feel terrified upon hearing that, which is perfectly normal."
Mar-Vell said with a sigh, "He was really terrified that the Skrulls had infiltrated Earth."
"Or perhaps he's just hoping to find a Skrull wife?"
Peter told jokes that no one understood, but it was clear that everyone was confused by his answer, and some even naturally misunderstood it.
After all, that's a race that can transform into anyone.
Realizing this, Peter quickly changed the subject: "Speaking of which, Mar-Vell, how many Skrulls have you caught?"
"Unfortunately, the number is zero. We haven't found any Skrulls anywhere on Earth. There's no doubt the Skrulls haven't discovered Earth yet, which is a good thing."
At this point, Mar-Vell finally began to explain why he had invited Peter—he wanted to know what stories his variants in parallel universes had.
"Alright, Spider-Man, let's get back to our original question. Whew—I'm still a little nervous."
Ma-Vell smiled as he looked at Peter, asking expectantly, "What am I like in other universes? What are the differences between me in different universes? Can you tell me about these things?"
Peter hesitated for a moment, partly because he didn't actually have much interaction with Mar-Vell in other parallel universes, and many things were difficult to explain in detail.
The other reason is more realistic, and what's more frustrating is that this second reason can override the first one.
"Well, there are indeed several universes where you've experienced some truly legendary stories."
Peter still told Marvell his fate: "But in most universes, you end up getting cancer and dying young."
