Chapter 49 Nick Fury
Chapter 49 Nick Fury
Peter Parker is a bit out of sorts.
The reason was not only because the person he was looking for suddenly appeared in front of him, but also because he once again realized what it meant that "the plot you know is completely useless".
In the more well-known comic book universe, Silk's story is mainly related to the Spider-Verse. To put it briefly, to avoid being hunted down by the villain Morlen, Cindy was hidden in a facility for ten years before being released by Spider-Man who learned of this.
This has absolutely nothing to do with Cindy Moon joining S.H.I.E.L.D. and becoming an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.
"Young people these days don't know how to handle problems properly. If they get superpowers, they won't tell the government, get a report, and then have professionals train them to master their abilities."
Nick Fury walked over with a glass of wine, seemingly having no intention of drinking it. Peter glanced at Cindy for a while, not because the girl was particularly attractive, but because, as far as he knew, Spider-Man and Spider-Silk would quickly generate a surge of hormones when they met.
But in reality, there was no reaction at all. Peter shrugged; that was fine too.
"They simply put on a circus costume and rushed into the street to beat up thugs, completely disregarding the possibility of being riddled with bullets."
“Actually,” Peter retorted, “I’ve been trained, and I wasn’t at a disadvantage just now. Sorry, Cindy, no offense intended.”
Cindy had already settled into a corner, showing no reaction, but Nick Fury had no intention of letting him off the hook.
"Wow, you think you're so great, huh? You took down a locksmith, an internationally renowned assassin, and... a whole bunch of spiders in just half a month."
Peter hadn't realized he'd experienced so much in just half a month until Nick Fury told him, and even he lost interest after Nick Fury finished speaking.
"Listen, you might think you're not bad, but you're actually still a long way off," Fury continued his rambling. "Take that spider monster you took care of this morning, for example. Did you know that there was a baby spider hiding inside one of the spider's corpses?"
"?!"
"See? You've only been in this line of work a short time, you don't know many things. The Avengers... they have high hopes for you, but they always have their own things to do..."
Peter now knew what Nick Fury was there for.
"I bet you're going to send me a S.H.I.E.L.D. gym membership card next, but I'm sorry, I don't have time to sign up for your gym membership."
"S.H.I.E.L.D. can make you better, do things the Avengers can't do for you, and turn you into—the ultimate Spider-Man."
This suggestion is actually quite good, really. S.H.I.E.L.D. can provide him with sufficient equipment support, backup guarantees, and a more flexible communication network than the Avengers. If it weren't for the fact that many things happening in this universe don't match up with the MCU universe, he would have really gone.
But now, unless Peter can rule out the possibility that S.H.I.E.L.D. hasn't been infiltrated by Hydra like in the movies, he can't possibly join S.H.I.E.L.D.
"Never mind, I'm more used to being alone. Even the Avengers only asked me to watch their place." Peter finished speaking, then came up with a lame excuse: "Besides, I had a dream that I joined S.H.I.E.L.D., and then I was attacked by an S—"
He didn't finish the word "snake" because he saw Nick Fury shake his head, and for a moment, he felt his eyelids twitch.
Now, not only does the comic book plot not match up, but the movie does too.
No, you mean you know S.H.I.E.L.D. has been infiltrated by Hydra? Then why haven't you reacted at all? Are you deliberately keeping those Hydra agents around to scam Hydra's funding?
"It was eaten by a shark."
After hearing Peter change his mind, Fury took a sip of his drink as if to calm himself down: "Okay, you can agree to this condition anytime. I'll give you a number. Oh, by the way, about your journey through the multiverse, you'll be selected as an intern at the Baxter Building. You'll meet Spider-Woman there."
……
Is this over?
Can I ask you a question?
Peter suddenly said something, and Fury put down his wine glass, started packing his things, and nodded at the same time.
"What's wrong with your eyes? Can I ask that?"
Fury opened his mouth, seemingly stunned for a moment.
"He was blinded by someone. It was a simple hostage rescue mission that couldn't be simpler. We had already completed the mission and rescued the target."
Nick Fury recounted a story Peter had never heard before: "Then, a man appeared who killed all my agents, my protected targets, and blinded me in one eye. To this day, I still don't know who that guy was or what he looked like, only that he had a metal arm, and the Soviets called him the Winter Soldier."
Was Fury telling the truth? Peter, initially skeptical, frowned. If Fury was telling the truth, it meant that the story of the Captain Marvel movie never happened, and the Skrulls never infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D....
Peter Parker, who was pondering the plot, heard Nick Fury's last words of advice before he left.
"Watch out for the guy with the metal arm. Beware the Winter Soldier, Peter Parker."
"Your parents died at his hands."
"?! Wait, what did you say?!"
Nick Fury had already pushed open the door, walked onto the helipad, boarded the helicopter, and left.
Peter, who had just received this completely unexpected news, was stunned for a moment, and then realized something: Nick Fury was gone, but he hadn't taken Cindy with him.
He didn't take you away.
Cindy nodded, then sat on the sofa, picked up a book, and answered without looking up, "Frey said we'll be working together some times, so we can get to know each other first."
"Him, uh... how did you join S.H.I.E.L.D."
Cindy looked up at Peter.
"After my parents discovered I had superpowers, they called the police, and then S.H.I.E.L.D. came to our door."
…………
So you're the positive example Nick Fury was talking about earlier.
Peter sat down on the sofa not far from her and rubbed his hands together. "I heard from that Spider Lady that you can sense me? Is that true?"
"Hmm, you can't do it?" Cindy glanced at Peter, confirming that he couldn't. "That's why you didn't notice that the spider swarm was still alive. I can sense you—distance, location, even the strength of your life force. Those few dozen seconds you were shocked by the high voltage were very obvious."
"Feel sorry."
Cindy looked up at him again.
Why apologize?
"Um, did I cause you any trouble?"
Peter didn't understand what was so funny about that, but Cindy did laugh. After closing the book, she explained briefly, "It doesn't really affect my life. It's like... just knowing where my phone is all the time. It's the spider swarm, constantly breeding, that really disgusts me."
"Alright, it's my turn to ask questions." Cindy interrupted Peter's next words: "I've watched a lot of your fight videos and learned a lot about your fighting style. Just now, after I attacked you, according to your usual practice, you should have fired webs at me, so why did you throw a chair at me?"
"My web shooter is broken, so I can't shoot webs."
Then Peter saw a confused look on Cindy's face.
"So not only can you not sense where I am, you can't even shoot your own webs?"
