Chapter 36 "Garbage Cleanup"
Chapter 36 "Garbage Cleanup"
In the Tokyo night sky, thick cumulonimbus clouds shimmered with a purplish-red halo at the edge of the horizon.
This is an abandoned industrial park far from the bustling Setagaya Ward.
Normally, only stray cats and dogs would appear here, but at this moment, the place was completely engulfed by pungent gunpowder smoke, and the air was filled with a strong smell of blood.
"Da da da da da—!!!"
The silence of the night was shattered by a burst of gunfire.
The gunfire was crisp and orderly, unlike the chaotic gunfights of gang warfare, which were instead a precise and despairing display of firepower.
Each gunshot was like a precise countdown, each burst of fire signifying the scythe of death descending.
Meanwhile, their target was fleeing, fearing that if they were even a step too slow, they would be killed by the pursuers behind them.
A group of parasites, who were originally at the top of the food chain in this world and regarded humans as livestock, are now running wildly between rusty shipping containers and collapsed abandoned factories like stray dogs.
Their footsteps were disordered, their breathing was rapid, and their once perfectly mimicking human faces were now distorted and deformed due to extreme fear, with their tentacles occasionally waving helplessly in the air.
Pursuing them was a fully armed Black Ghost squad.
These soldiers, like shadows ripped from the night itself, wore fully enclosed black tactical exoskeletons. The matte composite armor absorbed the surrounding light, making them almost invisible in the shadows.
The tactical goggles on the helmet flashed a cold red light, and the thermal imaging and motion capture system was running at full power, leaving scarlet trails in the darkness.
The weapons they carried were not the small-caliber revolvers used by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, but special assault rifles equipped with holographic smart sights and high-capacity drum magazines.
The gun spews a specially formulated, purer, and more deadly blue-white cold flame.
Even in the darkness, a globe emblem composed of three concentric circles was faintly visible on the chest of their bulletproof vests, with a line of small Latin text engraved below it. At the center of that complex emblem were three letters:
GOC (Global Paranormal Alliance).
A parasitic beast is running, mimicking a middle-aged man in overalls. Its right arm is broken, and blood is dripping from the cut.
The intense pain and the shadow of death caused his mind to momentarily become hazy.
Two hours ago.
"Are these the last survivors?"
In that dark and damp underground warehouse, more than thirty parasitic beasts gathered together. They were all highly intelligent individuals, but their faces were filled with confusion and unease.
"Over the past week, our kind has been disappearing in large numbers from Shinjuku Ward, Shibuya Ward... and even Nerima Ward." A parasitic beast masquerading as a teacher pushed up its glasses, its tone grave.
"Without any warning, without any distress signal, it was as if a drop of water evaporated into the air. We are being 'targeted'."
"Are they the police? Or is it that legendary 'Goto' and his ilk devouring us?"
"No, the police don't have that capability. As for Goto... he doesn't seem like it either. There were no signs of a struggle at the scene, or rather, the battle ended too quickly to leave any trace."
Panic is spreading. For parasitic creatures known for their rationality, this unknown "predator" is more terrifying than anything else.
They originally thought they were the cleaners of the Earth, beings standing at the pinnacle, but suddenly discovered that they might just be... pests in the eyes of some higher-dimensional being.
"We must unite, share intelligence, and establish an early warning system—"
Before the "teacher" could finish speaking, the heavy iron door of the warehouse suddenly made a dull thud.
"boom--!!!"
The directional explosives instantly blew away the iron gate, which was several tens of centimeters thick, followed by several black cylinders rolling in.
"What is that? A grenade?"
boom! boom! boom!
Those weren't fragmentation grenades, but rather high-intensity stun grenades and white phosphorus incendiary grenades.
The blinding light instantly robbed all the parasites of their sight, followed by a deafening bang that could shatter eardrums.
In the instant that all the parasites were momentarily stunned, the group of black-clad reapers rushed in.
That was a massacre in the truest sense.
There were no warnings, no attempts to persuade them to surrender, and not even any unnecessary actions.
The black-clad soldiers were like sophisticated killing machines, advancing in groups of three, providing cover for each other.
The guns in their hands spewed blue flames, and the specially made bullets, when they hit their own kind, did not simply penetrate, but created a violent cavitation effect, or even detonated directly inside the body.
"Aaaaaahh ...
"My head!!!"
The warehouse turned into hell. The parasites, who were preparing to fight back, found that their tentacles were cut off by a barrage of bullets before they could even straighten out.
The "teacher" who was speaking didn't even have time to transform before a large-caliber sniper bullet blasted half of his body apart, and the remaining remains twisted in agony amidst the white phosphorescent flames.
Of the more than thirty elite parasitic beasts, less than five managed to escape within just five minutes.
"Bang!"
A gunshot brought the parasitic man in overalls back to reality.
Its companion, a parasite masquerading as a high school girl, had its head explode like a watermelon. The headless corpse took a couple of steps due to inertia before crashing heavily into the muddy water.
"Target locked, fan-shaped encirclement. Team A to block the high ground, Team B to carry out the annihilation."
The GOC commander's cold voice came through the communication channel, completely flat, as if they were facing not cannibalistic monsters, but a pile of hazardous waste to be disposed of.
"Approval for the use of heavy firepower. There should be no reservations regarding these inhuman monsters; for every one of them that survives, dozens of humans could die as a result."
"Remember, this is not a battle, it's a cleanup. Sweep every nook and cranny clean, make sure it's spotless."
"roar--!!"
The parasitic man in work clothes was cornered in a dead end made up of shipping containers.
With pursuers ahead and no way to retreat behind, despair, like a poison, awakened the most primal ferocity deep within its genes.
"Since we can't escape... let's die together!!"
It whirled around, its head undergoing a horrific transformation in an instant. Facial muscles tore, multiplied, and reorganized wildly, transforming into five two-meter-long, gleaming, metallic bone blades.
It arched its body, its muscles taut, like a fully drawn bow.
"You fragile humans!!"
It roared, and the concrete beneath its feet instantly cracked. Using the recoil, it transformed into a blur and rushed toward the nearest black-clad soldier.
It attempts to carve a bloody path with its supersonic slashing speed, an attack that, in past experience, has been enough to slice through steel like tofu, let alone the fragile human body.
However, faced with this deadly blow, the black-clad soldier on the other side did not even retreat a single step.
Their tactical movements were perfectly synchronized, with the front row crouching and the back row standing, forming a crossfire network with no blind spots.
Its roar was instantly drowned out by the metal storm.
Bullets rained down like a storm.
This is by no means an ordinary lead-core bullet, but a "high-explosive hybrid bullet" specially designed for abnormal organisms.
The warhead was not deflected upon contact with the parasite's hardened skin. Instead, it was forcibly penetrated by the tungsten alloy core, and then the high-explosive ammunition inside was detonated.
"Boom! Boom! Boom!"
In that instant, the man in overalls felt as if he had crashed into a wall made of explosions.
The parasite's proud hardened muscles are as fragile as a soaked windowpane under the dual attack of modern gunpowder kinetic energy and targeted technology.
"Pfft! Pfft! Pfft!"
Red blood mixed with bits of flesh splattered like exploding fireworks.
The parasite that tried to fight back was instantly riddled with holes.
Its bone blade had only been swung halfway, and hadn't even had a chance to touch the soldier's exoskeleton armor, when the muscle tissue connecting the bone blade was completely torn apart and pulverized by the large-caliber bullet.
It felt lighter.
Looking down, one could see that its chest cavity had been blasted open, and its internal organs had been carbonized under the high temperature.
"This... is impossible..."
Its mangled body convulsed violently in the air a few times before collapsing like a lump of mud.
Even in death, its eyes remained fixed on the intricate globe emblem on the chests of the men in black—a terrifying presence they could not comprehend.
A soldier in black stepped forward, his tactical boots making a viscous sound as they stomped through the blood. He raised his gun, aiming at the core of the still-writhing mass of flesh.
"Bang."
A precise follow-up shot.
"Destroyed confirmed. Area cleared. Samples being retrieved."
The soldier in black gave a cold report, then turned and disappeared into the darkness, leaving behind only a mess of blood and flesh, proof that an unequal war had taken place here.
Humanity has once again launched a brutal and efficient massacre on Earth. As for whether anyone will protest?
The parasite corpses lying on the ground and the dark gun barrels will tell you...
