056 Absolute Territory
056 Absolute Territory
"Black tea from the UVA region of Ceylon, picked in August." Angers pushed a glass in front of Lu Mingfei. "That boorish Mans only drinks dark beer. All the good tea was wasted on his ship, so I had to bring my own."
Lu Mingfei picked up the cup and took a sip; it was indeed delicious.
“Last week, Manstein complained to me,” Angers said, leaning back in his chair and chatting casually, “that you used your privilege of a free day to monopolize the best girl in this year’s competition, causing him to lose one person on his list of assistants.”
Lu Mingfei was about to explain.
"But I understood after reading the operation log." Angers' smile deepened. "To make such an outstanding girl willingly take care of you, that skill is much harder to achieve than knocking over Caesar Chu Zihang in the square. The magic of love is truly enviable."
You have no idea that her hands are comparable to hydraulic shears!
Lu Mingfei rubbed his temples helplessly: "Principal, you didn't keep me behind to say these things, did you?"
Angers took a sip of tea, his voice becoming serious. "I've read the entire operation report. A perfect rescue, a swift and decisive kill of a third-generation beast, and the acquisition of the target item. As the headmaster, I am proud that Kassel College has such an outstanding student as you."
"If it weren't for you, this operation could very well have turned into a tragedy, Ye Sheng and Aki..."
"It's what I should do. I'm an S-rank, aren't I?" Lu Mingfei calmly took a sip of tea.
"Well then, Lu Mingfei," Angers said, ignoring Lu Mingfei's interruption, "Mans mentioned your incredible fighting style in his report, and I also received the equipment department's test report. Your Word of Power seems to be outside the scope recorded in the 'Word of Power Periodic Table.' Could you describe its nature to me briefly?"
Lu Mingfei explained, "If we have to define it, it is a barrier; its nature is to hinder and repel."
"It is mainly based on polygons, superimposed, pieced together, or converted into energy, and can be used for both offense and defense. It can affect all physical quantities, whether it is kinetic energy, thermal radiation, electric current, or gravity."
"Its hardness and energy intensity depend on my mental and physical abilities."
Angers listened quietly, put down his teacup, interlaced his fingers and pressed them to his lips, and pondered for a few seconds.
"Interfering with the material space with the mind," he said slowly, "sounds like it's related to the high-level Words of Power of the White King system. Since it doesn't belong to any known Words of Power sequence, then as its owner, Lu Mingfei, you have the right to name it."
Lu Mingfei remained silent for a while.
This power has a name in that world, which everyone knows, and it is read out in the communication channel before each attack.
"Then let's call it 'Absolute Territory'," Lu Mingfei said softly.
"Absolute Territory. A fitting and domineering name. I think it would rank quite low on the periodic table." Ang nodded.
Then he put down the cup and leaned forward slightly.
"Lu Mingfei, you killed a dragon with your own hands today." Angers looked at him. "What were you thinking when you were fighting it?"
"What am I thinking about? I'm thinking about how to kill it," Lu Mingfei said, bewildered. "What else could I be thinking about? If I think about anything else, I'll die."
"Haha, Lu Mingfei," Angers laughed loudly, "Good, very good."
"This is the most satisfying answer I've ever heard. I've seen too many young dragon slayers, in retrospect, either wallow in self-pity about heroism or suffer from sleepless nights due to post-traumatic anxiety. But what you said is the truth—on the battlefield, there is only life and death; everything else is a luxury."
A person who can say such a thing must have buried someone else with their own hands.
Lu Mingfei had seen Katsuragi Misato suffer from insomnia. She leaned against the refrigerator, muttering to herself as she looked at a row of empty beer cans: "My decision is to send others to their deaths, Mingfei. Each of them is better than me."
"Principal," Lu Mingfei put down his teacup, "I have a question."
"please."
"Who owns Kassel College?"
Angers raised an eyebrow. The question was asked abruptly, but he could tell that Lu Mingfei was implying something.
"I demonstrated my capabilities at the Three Gorges Dam," Lu Mingfei said calmly. "If I'm not mistaken, those in power are currently meeting to discuss me."
"What kind of people do you think these people in power are?" Angers asked in return.
"A group of old men sitting in a dark room control the allocation of resources throughout the organization through money and power. But no matter how large the organization is, it is nothing more than a tool for them to achieve their goals, and can be discarded at any time."
"Unfortunately, the kind of organization you described is called the Secret Party here," Angers finally spoke, his voice softening. "The Secret Party is an underground alliance of hybrids that has existed for over a thousand years, and Kassel College is just its largest branch in the modern era. Above the college is the Board of Trustees, whose seven seats belong to different families and factions. They provide funding, intelligence, and political resources, and in exchange, they have the right to dispose of the college's resources."
"Including the right to dispose of students."
"Including the right to dispose of students," Angers replied.
Lu Mingfei stared at him.
"And what about you, Principal?"
"I am the principal," Angers said. "All students are under my jurisdiction."
"The board of directors already knows about your performance at Three Gorges," Angers said. "They will do anything to win you over."
Lu Mingfei raised his eyebrows slightly, somewhat surprised. It wasn't forced control after all? The moral standards of this world seem a bit too high.
Angers said, "Are you ready to receive the Gattuso family's unlimited black cards? They'll send you the world's most luxurious sports cars and beautiful women. Are you excited?"
"Is the Gattuso family very rich?" Lu Mingfei asked casually.
"Wealthy enough to rival a nation."
"That's great, why not?" Lu Mingfei readily accepted the offer.
Angers stared at Lu Mingfei for a few seconds, then laughed again.
"Alright." Angers stood up, straightened his suit cuffs, and said, "The young men need a rest. I'll go check on those guys in the back."
He walked to the sliding door with his teacup in hand, and the moment he opened it, a wave of heat mixed with beer, coffee, laughter, and curses rushed out.
Lu Mingfei peeked inside.
The rear cabin has been completely changed.
Zero sat in an airline-style seat, expressionless. Ye Sheng half-squatted to her left, and Aki sat to her right.
"You can't keep bottling things up like this," Aki said, holding Zero's hand. "When Ye Shenggang and I started dating, I didn't know what to say either. But you should at least learn to smile in front of him—"
"laugh?"
"Yes, laugh."
"so?"
Ye Sheng and Ya Ji both fell silent.
"Never mind." Ye Sheng patted Ling on the shoulder. "Just be yourself."
Selma laughed so hard she couldn't stand up straight: "You two should stop teaching, it's getting worse the more you teach."
As Angers stepped into the rear cabin, the laughter and commotion suddenly quieted down for a moment.
Zero seized the opportunity and quickly got up and left.
Aki laughed and said, "They're going to find her."
A chorus of whistles and clapping erupted from the rear cabin.
"The sofa on the private jet is spacious, Zero, he's yours now." Angers thoughtfully closed the soundproof door of the cabin for them.
The cabin lights intelligently dimmed and were adjusted to a warm, sleep-inducing yellow.
Lu Mingfei leaned back in the large airline seat. He turned his head and found Ling standing next to him, holding a cashmere blanket.
"What were you talking about just now?" Lu Mingfei asked.
"Some useless stuff." Zero pressed down on the chair and covered Lu Mingfei with a blanket.
"Lie down."
Lu Mingfei smiled and turned over.
Goodnight, Zero.
The Sleipnir flew smoothly above the clouds, heading towards Kassel College as the dawn broke.
