Chapter 9 Convergence
Chapter 9 Convergence
"arrive."
Night had fallen, and in the vast wilderness, apart from two cars with their lights on, only the white figure that had led the way remained.
At that moment, a golden light streaked across the night sky, having flown an unknown distance, and with a swift landing, Icarus stood firmly on his feet.
"There are no signs of zombies around. It's too quiet, unnaturally quiet."
Lily, a Black woman, gently bit into the pink chewing gum bubble she was blowing; she had gone to great lengths to keep it until now.
Holding up her night-vision binoculars, she pointed and said, "It's all in front of us."
Following the direction she pointed, everyone looked and saw the only human-built structure in the wilderness with lights on, surrounded by a bustling crowd of dark figures.
"Okay, I believe it's not a herd of cattle or sheep or anything like that." Kamala swallowed, and everyone immediately became serious.
"What we're looking for is right there," Moon Knight said with a hint of mystery.
When everyone reached the horde of zombies, they realized that something was wrong.
These zombies did not attack proactively; instead, they stood guard in place like a wall, as if trying to build a special barrier with their bodies.
"Who goes there! State your names and your purpose!"
A rough voice came through the loudspeaker, sounding exactly like the roar of a polar bear.
Icarus couldn't contain himself and almost flew up to burn the opponent to ashes with his laser eyes, but fortunately, Hanlu beside him smiled and held his shoulder down.
At Hanlu's prompting, John stepped forward without hesitation: "We've come seeking help. We have a way to save this corrupt world! If you still retain any humanity, then please let us in."
John stood alone in front of the crowd, and the few people behind him watched him face countless "enemies" single-handedly, which really reminded them of Captain America.
These words seemed to move the people inside quite a bit. With a burst of laughter, the originally crowded horde of zombies neatly made way for them.
John looked up and saw the "Polar Bear" family waiting at the end of the passage: in the middle was Alexei Shostakov, the Red Guard, next to him was his nominal wife, the Iron Lady Melina, and leaning against the door frame was Yelena, the second Black Widow.
"You say you have a way to save the world?" The Iron Lady seemed to want to ask a few more questions. After all, coming from a secret service organization, she naturally harbored distrust and wariness towards strangers.
But Alexei, this burly man, stepped forward and looked down at John with his massive, polar bear-like body. After a few seconds, he said, "I believe him. He has a certain strength."
He turned and gave his wife a thumbs-up, displaying a certain air of a head of the household, but he quickly gave in under the scrutinizing gaze of the Iron Lady, pleading softly, "Please."
"Come in," the Iron Lady finally relented.
The Red Guard immediately laughed, and boldly put his arm around John's shoulder, pulling him into the room like a good buddy.
John followed suit, and he could tell that the rugged Slavic man in front of him meant no harm.
"You see, many times we have more choices," Hanlu said to Icarus.
"I still prefer a simple and direct solution." Icarus slapped Hanlu's hand off his shoulder.
Matt walked to Hanlu's side and whispered, "I know it's wrong to say this, but I don't like that Icarus. I can't hear his heartbeat..."
No, I can't hear any signs of human life; it's more like a machine.
Daredevil's worries were not unfounded. Hanlu gently patted his chest: "Don't worry, at least for now, he's with us."
Hanlu's relaxed tone eased Matt's worries somewhat.
He didn't understand why his friends were always so optimistic, and it was this optimism that had allowed them to get to where they were today, still with a touch of ease.
As for the girl next to her who directly touched the zombie, that was pure reckless daring.
The Moon Knight, who was at the back, seemed to sense something and began to look around: "Something's coming."
Hanlu and Matt both stopped. Matt listened carefully to the sounds around them, but heard nothing. "What is that?"
"It's not tangible; we've already been exposed."
"When soldiers come, we'll block them; when water comes, we'll dam it."
Moon Knight quietly savored Cold Dew's philosophical words. With the blessing of divine power, he could communicate with any race without any obstacles: "Very wise words. The person who spoke these words must have been a sage."
"Alright, let's go. Even if we're going to fight, we need to fill our stomachs first. I'm starving. Matt, can you make pizza? How about some pineapple?"
"I have to warn you, during the Cold Dew season, you can't put pineapple on pizza, or a lot of people will complain about it."
"Who cares, as long as it tastes good!"
Moon Knight, seeing the atmosphere instantly relax, became even more puzzled. He suddenly realized that the core of this team was neither John, who had always been giving orders, nor Icarus, who was at the top of the combat power.
He walked at the back, watching the two people chatting animatedly ahead of him, and whispered, "We might become good companions."
"But I'm not quite used to it yet."
……
"The moment I became a super soldier, I was ready to fight for my country! Captain America, he is my destined enemy!"
We were destined to meet, to clash with steel and will! This is a battle for honor, one I've waited for all this time!
The Red Guard, his face flushed from drinking vodka, stood on the table, boasting incessantly about his past glories.
Perhaps it was the three young girls in front of him that made him feel like a father again, as he rambled on about the past.
John, who had also had some wine, challenged Icarus with a flushed face.
This lofty "deity" never refuses to challenge mortals.
The two dug up a large iron block from the ground to use as their "arena," each extending their right hand to compete in the most direct way men do—arm wrestling!
As the two men grappled with each other, the air around them vibrated with a series of shockwaves, as if the ground were about to collapse.
Yelena stood excitedly to the side, even betting with a "Black Widow" next to her who would win.
What Hanlu couldn't understand the most was that Daredevil actually went to play chess with Moon Knight, and it was chess.
After all, he didn't understand Eastern chess, so he couldn't just rely on the patterns, could he?
The Iron Lady was not used to such banquets, but she still helplessly stroked the signal transmitter that symbolized the future of mankind.
It's not hard to understand; in this era, everyone is already overwhelmed.
When someone briefly revealed the function of this thing, everyone immediately chose to believe it.
Unfortunately, during the Wakanda incident, the harmful substances that spread throughout the sky eroded the atmosphere, preventing any signals from being transmitted.
The group, who were initially a bit disappointed, decided to have a party at Hanlu's suggestion.
In an instant, everyone cast aside their worries and immersed themselves in the delicious food and wine.
But joyous times are always fleeting. Hanlu, who was standing next to Yelena watching the show, felt a slight tremor from the earth, and everyone instantly stopped their feast.
Seeing the ripples spreading in the water glass, Hanlu said, "Everyone, they're coming."
