Chapter 50: Who should I ask for help reforging my weapon? A dwarf? Or an elf?
“Rhodes, you can take this weapon to Ironforge and have the dwarf king Magni Bronzebeard reforge it for you.”
“It just so happens that Alexandros and Fabius Beyer are there too; I can write you a letter of introduction,” Uther said.
If anyone in the entire alliance were to claim the best forging skills, then if the dwarf king Magni Bronzebeard were to declare himself second, no one would dare to claim first.
"Rhodes, you can take this sword to Dalaran and seek the help of the high elves."
"This sword was forged by the high elves with the help of humans. If it were merely inlaid with holy crystals, the high elves would be even better equipped to complete the task," Jaina said.
Unlike Uther, the sorceress offered another suggestion: while the dwarven artisans were indeed more skilled in forging, this weapon did not need to be completely reforged!
All you need to do is embed a Holy Light Crystal on it, so there's no need to make it so complicated. Besides, High Elves are better at engraving magical runes and enchanting.
This put Rhodes in a dilemma: would the dwarf king Magni Bronzebeard be willing to help him reforge his weapons?
Even with Uther's letter of introduction, the matter is still quite uncertain, since the Dwarf King will soon be forging Ashbringer.
I estimate that there won't be time to reforge my weapons in the short term, and going to Ironforge would conflict with my plans.
My goal is to visit King Terenas in the capital city of Lordaeron, then head to the magical city of Dalaran, and afterwards travel to Kalimdor with the sorceress Jaina. I must participate in the Battle of Mount Hyjal.
Therefore, it would be better to have the high elves help to set a gem on Emperor Thoradin's sword; a good gem craftsman could probably complete the task in just two or three days.
Moreover, this weapon was originally forged by the high elves, so having them help in setting gems and even re-engraving magical runes would be much simpler.
Moreover, there are quite a few priests among the high elves who use the power of holy light.
In addition, Jaina has a good relationship with the high elf prince, so whenever the sorceress asks, the prince will immediately fawn over her and help her.
Rhodes had confidence in the magical skills of the high elves.
“Lord Uther, I think it would be better to take this weapon to Dalaran and have the high elves enchant, engrave, and then socket it with gems,” Rhodes said.
“It’s your decision, Rhodes, and I respect your opinion. However, if the Titan Guardian is willing to help you reforge your weapon, that would actually be the best option,” Uther said.
Since it's not like we're rebuilding from scratch, it might be better to have a high elf enchant it, add runes, and then socket it with Holy Light Crystals.
However, in Uther's opinion, the Titan Guardian's forging skills were probably better than Uther's, as he was able to create such powerful metal artifacts.
Rhodes looked helpless upon hearing this. "If I really had a Titan Guardian behind me, that would be fine, but the problem is I don't."
The blacksmith shops in the cemetery city can only sell medical tents and can't do anything else; there isn't even a necromancer in them.
"The Titan Guardian just casually suggested that I use this method to reforge the weapon, but he didn't actually agree to help. I think it's better to find a mortal race to reforge this weapon!"
"There's no need to trouble the great guardian with this matter," Rhodes said tactfully.
"Okay! Get some rest."
"We still have four days' journey to Lordaeron. While we're on the road, we can use the power of Holy Light to purify the shadows on this sword, making it easier for you to embed gems later," Uther said.
Since it's going to be reforged into a weapon of holy light, the power of shadow must be removed. Perhaps transforming this power of shadow will make the weapon more compatible with holy light.
Rhodes nodded, agreeing to Uther's suggestion. The Emperor's sword had been stuck in Zarkaz's body for over 2,800 years, and it had indeed become tainted with a lot of shadow power, which had to be removed.
The journey over the next few days was generally smooth sailing. During the day, the group traveled, while at night, Uther and Rhodes would use magic scrolls to summon holy light elements together!
Then, with the help of the Holy Light elemental, the two of them purify Emperor Thoradin's weapon, completely transforming the shadow power on it into holy light power.
The Emperor's weapon wasn't as stubborn as the Shadow Crystal. It was purified every night, and by the third day, all the Shadow power had been cleared away. The 10 Holy Light Elementals summoned every night during this period were a great help.
While purifying the Emperor's sword, Uther also studied the magic scroll, wanting to integrate this special holy light spell, which summons holy light elements, into the paladin's spell system.
If a Holy Light elemental could assist in combat, it would be extremely important for a paladin, essentially like having a priest by their side.
Rhodes said he couldn't offer much help, but could only lend the magic scroll to Uther for experimentation.
In fact, the female mage was also very envious of this magic scroll. Fire element was just as helpful to mages as water element, and its attack power was even stronger.
Unfortunately, she is not a fire mage. Oh well, let Lord Uther study her first!
Once you get to Dalaran, go find Kael'thas. He'll definitely be interested in this magic scroll that can summon fire elementals.
On the fourth day at noon, the group finally arrived at the capital of the Kingdom of Lordaeron.
Lordaeron, the capital of the seven human kingdoms, stands under the sunlight of Tirisfal Glades. Its magnificent white-walled, golden-roofed buildings, bathed in the chilly early winter air, still retain their splendor.
Inside the towering city walls, the streets are wide, bustling with people, lined with shops, and filled with the aroma of fresh bread and the smell of coal smoke from the blacksmith's shop.
Rhodes gazed at the magnificent city before him with awe, marveling at how it was the largest city in human history, even surpassing Stormwind in size.
But a few months later, the city will be completely captured, and countless undead armies will use this as a starting point to occupy the entire Lordaeron.
In the future, most of the outer city will be abandoned, leaving only the underground palace, which will become the Undercity of the Forgotten.
Rhodes rode on the black steed summoned by the system, following behind Uther and Jaina, through the massive city gate passageway.
I curiously looked around at this magnificent city that I had only seen in games, and felt the exotic atmosphere that was so different from Earth.
"Rhodes, the capital of Lordaeron is magnificent, isn't it?" Jaina's voice rang out beside him.
“It’s truly impressive; this city is magnificent.” Rhodes nodded, his gaze sweeping over the medieval-style buildings.
"But... the atmosphere in the city seems a bit off?"
Chapter 51 Arrival in Lordaeron
Rhodes could clearly sense that something was wrong with the people in the city; the atmosphere was very oppressive, and everyone's face was filled with worry.
"Fear spreads like a plague, faster than the dead."
"News from Stratholme... can no longer be completely contained; people already know the truth," Uther said with a sigh.
Andorhal, the plague of Hearthglen, and the horrific rumors of Stratholme's massacre, like a chilling shadow, have quietly crept over this once-prosperous city.
Many people in the city were unwilling to accept Lordaeron, and Stratholme, the largest city in the north, was destroyed!
Moreover, it was Prince Arthas himself who personally took charge; it has been almost half a month since His Highness embarked on his expedition to Northrend.
During this period, the undead plague continued to erupt, and the undead plague situation in various places was very serious.
People spoke in hushed tones, their eyes filled with worry and fear, and the number of patrolling soldiers had increased significantly.
Rhodes nodded upon hearing this. The calamities facing Lordaeron were far from over! But as the strongest nation of mankind and the true leader of the Alliance, it was impossible for you to allow the Kingdom of Lordaeron to cross westward to the continent of Kalimdor.
“Rhodes, and Lady Jaina, you two can go to the inn to rest first. I will go to see King Terenas first, and I will have King Terenas summon you later,” Uther said.
He had something very important to report to His Majesty the King, and the summons of Rhodes, the Titan envoy, and Princess Jaina would have to be postponed. Before that, he had to introduce Rhodes to King Terenas.
“No problem, Lord Uther. I’m quite familiar with this place. You should go to the palace to see King Terenas. I’ll take Rhodes to the inn myself,” Jaina said politely.
Uther nodded and ordered several soldiers to escort Jaina and Rhodes, while he himself led a group of the Silver Hand Paladins to the Royal Palace of Lordaeron.
"Come with me, Rhodes. We've had a long journey, let's get some rest!"
"At least I could take a hot bath and have a decent dinner at the inn." Ever since she started investigating the undead plague with Arthas, she hadn't had a proper rest, not even a bath.
“Hahaha! Just as you said, Gina, I also want to take a nice hot bath and then enjoy a lavish meal,” Rhodes said.
After camping in the wild for almost half a month, enduring wind and rain, even as a modern person, Rod felt incredibly dirty!
The two nodded to each other and, led by Jaina, went to the inn in Lordaeron to rest.
Meanwhile, in the royal palace, Uther successfully met with the old King Terenas.
“Uther, my most loyal paladin, I’ve heard some bad news. I heard that Arthas has dismissed you from all your posts?” Terenas asked immediately upon seeing Uther.
The news from Stratholme devastated the old king; he couldn't believe his son had done such a thing.
After stripping Uther, the first paladin and Lightbringer, of all his titles and then massacring the city of Stratholme, he led most of Lordaeron's army to Northrend in the Arctic, and this kid didn't even report it to me.
“Your Majesty! This is what happened, please allow me to report to you.” Uther knelt on one knee and began to report to King Terenas on the results of the investigation into the plague and Arthas’s actions.
“What a troublesome child, but don’t worry, Uther. In the name of the King, I hereby immediately reinstate you to all your positions,” King Terenas said, nodding to Uther.
"Thank you for your trust, Your Majesty. I request that you immediately send a messenger to the continent of Northrend."
"Then inform His Highness the Prince and order him to immediately lead the army back. Dealing with a Dreadlord is not so simple; we must gather the strength of the entire Alliance," Uther said.
“I understand, Uther. I will immediately send a messenger to Northrend to find Arthas and have him lead his army back.” After only a brief consideration of the pros and cons, the old King Terenas made his decision and summoned Arthas back.
His messenger departed half a month later than Arthas, but his speed should have been faster than the main force. By the time he arrived in Northrend, Arthas should have only been on the ground for a few days.
With King Terenas's assurance of withdrawal, Uther was finally relieved. That bastard Arthas, once he returned, he would definitely teach him a lesson!
“Uther, I’ve also heard some things. It’s said that you’ve discovered a young man with exceptionally strong Holy Light talent, is that right?” King Terenas asked.
News came back from Stratholme that Arthas, while investigating the undead plague, had hired a powerful mage who was skilled in both holy light and arcane magic.
“Yes, King Terenas, but this Mr. Rhodes is no ordinary mage. He is a Titan Guardian, a chosen one of the Holy Light,” Uther told King Terenas about his journey.
Rhodes, blessed by the Titan Guardians, traveled to Tyr's Tomb and obtained the legendary artifact, the Silver Hand Warhammer.
After hearing Uther's words, King Terenas was deeply shaken and remained unsettled for a long time.
The news that Uther had obtained the Silver Hand warhammer was not as shocking as the Stratholme massacre, but it was positive news.
“Congratulations, my most powerful paladin, Uther! You have obtained the weapon of the ancient Titan Guardians. With this weapon, I believe Lordaeron will surely be able to defeat this terrible undead plague. Victory belongs to Lordaeron,” the old king said.
The timing of this weapon's arrival is crucial! It can greatly boost morale.
"All this is guided by the Holy Light, Your Majesty. With the Silver Hand Warhammer, I will serve you and the Alliance even better. The Holy Light will prevail!" Uther said, raising the Silver Hand Warhammer.
This weapon from the Titan Guardians emitted a pure white light, illuminating the entire throne room.
"Hahaha! I will announce this news so that all the people of Lordaeron know that the Silver Hand Warhammer has been obtained by Uther the Lightbringer," the old king said.
The two, king and minister, talked for a while longer, and King Terenas began to inquire in detail about Rhodes.
Uther spoke frankly and openly, while King Terenas listened attentively to Rhodes's intelligence.
Chapter 52 King Terenas's Thoughts and Methods of Winning Him Over
King Terenas could tell that the Lightbringer held Rhodes in extremely high regard, clearly valuing him immensely.
If what Uther said is true, this young man named Rhodes is indeed worth recruiting, given his talent for Holy Light magic.
It was even favored by the Titan Guardians and personally bestowed upon them a powerful creation, a magical artifact.
"It was indeed a thrilling adventure, and I became increasingly curious about the boy named Rhodes."
"Can he really learn the Holy Light spells you taught him in an instant? Or did he already know these spells before?" King Terenas was still somewhat incredulous.
