Chapter 9 The Red Spider Lily
Chapter 9 The Red Spider Lily
In an instant, the entire ancient tomb transformed into a crimson world.
The crystal on the tomb ceiling refracted an eerie and dazzling light, with thousands of crimson rays radiating outwards from the goddess's corpse. Looking out, it resembled a blooming spider lily, bewitching and beautiful, yet exuding an indescribable sinister aura.
The time has come; at the boundary between Yin and Yang, the red spider lilies bloom.
"What a nice view……"
"So much money, hehehe..."
"Immortality...immortality..."
Big Gold Tooth, Fatty Wang, Shirley Yang, Hu Bayi, and even Ying Caihong and others were all involuntarily lost in their trance, falling into the illusion one by one.
Some see mountains of gold and silver, luxury cars and beautiful women; some see family reunions and peaceful times; some see themselves high above, holding the power of life and death in their hands.
Various illusions, indistinguishable from reality, intertwine, making it impossible to tell whether what is before one's eyes is a dream or reality.
Even Huang Bai was caught off guard and fell victim to the trap.
In the illusion, he successfully obtained the Other Shore Flower. Afterwards, he traveled through countless worlds, his cultivation path was smooth sailing, his supernatural powers advanced daily, he was immune to calamities, and finally attained the fruit of longevity.
He lies high above the nine heavens, on a futon he has attained the true Dao.
Beyond the mysteries of heaven and earth, I shall be the supreme leader.
He stood high in the clouds, overlooking the ancient mountains and rivers. His gaze pierced through the long river of history. Looking back on the path he had traveled, he felt that everything had come to pass naturally and logically.
It was as if fate was smiling upon him, paving the way for him everywhere.
It was such a perfect dream.
"wrong."
Just as he was feeling smug, Huang Bai suddenly felt a chill and snapped back to reality. The dazed look in his eyes vanished instantly, leaving only clarity.
Wow!
The surrounding illusions were like a painting being burned by raging fire, or like porcelain suddenly shattering, instantly breaking into pieces and vanishing into ashes.
The scene returns to the ancient tomb.
Inside the main tomb chamber, squads of armored Khitan warriors appeared out of nowhere.
These Khitan warriors were all nine feet tall, clad in heavy bronze armor with animal-faced beasts, their faces covered with fierce-looking demon masks with fangs, wielding swords, spears, and halberds, exuding a murderous aura, and they surrounded and attacked the crowd from all directions.
"Imperial Edict!"
Huang Bai shouted and activated his magic, his sharpened divine sword suddenly slashing out. With a flash of cold light, the two nearest Khitan warriors were instantly cut in half at the waist, their armor and flesh splitting apart as they collapsed to the ground with a thud.
"Hu Bayi, Fatty Wang, wake up!"
The sound was like a thunderclap, instantly waking everyone up.
Hu Bayi snapped back to reality, his forehead already covered in cold sweat.
"Damn it, what the hell was that thing?" Fatty Wang was still in shock, his hand holding the shovel trembling.
"Stop talking nonsense, stop them first!" Hu Bayi shouted in a low voice.
The three tomb raiders immediately took their respective actions.
Shirley Yang opened her Vajra Umbrella, and with a few crisp clangs, she forcefully blocked several slashing swords and spears.
Hu Bayi and Wang Pangzi worked in perfect harmony, one attacking the lower body and the other finishing off the enemy with a severing neck. In a short time, they killed several Khitan warriors.
As for Big Gold Tooth and Ying Caihong, they could only cower awkwardly behind the crowd, unable to get involved at all.
Huang Bai roamed the battlefield alone, wielding his sword and charging forward relentlessly.
However, as time went on, he gradually began to find it difficult.
Ultimately, he was just a mortal who had only recently embarked on the path of cultivation.
Having already exhausted a great deal of mental energy by forcibly dragging more than ten people into the illusion, and now having to fight with swords and maintain the spell, his energy was being rapidly depleted.
If this drags on any longer, we will definitely not be able to hold on.
While swinging his sword to break through the encirclement, Huang Bai quickly thought of a countermeasure.
"This is not an ordinary sensory illusion, but a higher level of idealistic illusion..."
His eyes flickered, and his mind raced.
Ordinary hallucinations, in essence, are merely obscuring the senses and clouding cognition. Once one sees through the illusion, the illusion will dissipate on its own.
But the illusion before us has clearly gone a step further, to some extent reflecting the thoughts in our hearts as reality.
If you are hit by these Khitan soldiers, you will actually get wounds.
"Ouch! That hurts!"
Just then, a heart-wrenching scream came from not far away.
Huang Bai looked in the direction of the sound and saw that Big Gold Tooth had also been stabbed in the other thigh, bleeding profusely. He was rolling on the ground in pain, crying out for his parents.
This scene perfectly matched Huang Bai's guess.
"Just as I thought." Huang Bai's eyes flickered, and he instantly made up his mind.
He suddenly pulled a talisman from his sleeve and waved it in mid-air.
Wow!
The talisman burned, bursting into a large cloud of smoke. The smoke swirled and spread, and the powdered Five-Herb Pill mixed in with it was also inhaled by everyone.
"Hu Bayi, visualize things!" Huang Bai shouted as he forced the enemy back with his sword.
"Contemplate what?" Hu Bayi was taken aback.
"Think of the things you think are the coolest!"
"Understood!"
As soon as he finished speaking, a faint glow appeared around Hu Bayi.
The next moment, swarms of blue fireflies appeared out of thin air, buzzing and flapping their wings like ghostly flames, and rushed towards the Khitan warriors.
Wherever the swarm of insects passed, blue flames rose, and warriors were burned to ashes, armor and bones alike.
Those were the very same demonic insects that Hu Bayi had seen in the Nine-Story Demon Tower in the Snowfield.
"You can do it like that?" Fatty Wang's eyes lit up, and he immediately perked up.
Shirley Yang closed her eyes and quickly focused her mind on meditation.
Moments later, a squad of heavily armed American soldiers appeared out of thin air, lined up, and opened fire.
Gunfire erupted, flames spitting out, riddling the Khitan warriors ahead with holes.
Fatty Wang was even more blunt and brutal, letting out a loud laugh: "Haha, here comes Fatty! All you demons and monsters, die!"
Before he finished speaking, dozens of "Fatty Wangs" appeared from all around, each one burly and carrying shovels and explosive packs. They rushed towards the Khitan warriors with a lot of shouting, and the scene became chaotic and fierce.
Beside Huang Bai, one after another, three-zhang-tall Yellow Turban Warriors slowly appeared.
The strongman had a face as red as a date, eyes as sharp as lightning, a body as strong as cast iron, and a divine light flowing around him, making him impervious to swords and spears. He stood there like an unshakeable mountain.
"kill!"
At Huang Bai's command, the Yellow Turban Warriors strode out with a thunderous roar, their arms swinging like the wind. Wherever they passed, Khitan warriors exploded and flew through the air, utterly unable to resist.
Illusions are endless, so let's use illusions to break illusions!
This tactic worked.
The situation in the tomb reversed instantly, and the Khitan warriors were wiped out in droves. Huang Bai seized the opportunity and fought his way to the stone platform where the red spider lilies were in full bloom.
He pushed off with his feet and shot out like an arrow, leaping onto the stone platform in a few steps.
On the stone platform, the body of the Khitan princess Aogu lay quietly.
This princess, once revered as a deity by the Khitans, was nearly immortal thanks to the red spider lily. However, after thousands of years, she was reduced to a cold corpse, devoid of any life.
Huang Bai's gaze fell on the red spider lily.
The object was about the size of a dinner plate, grayish-brown in color, but its surface shone with a dazzling red light, like a ball of solidified blood and fire.
This is not a flower at all.
It was not a meteorite from outer space, but a meteorite containing mysterious power.
The closer you get, the more intense the burning sensation becomes, as if even the air itself is about to catch fire.
Huang Bai acted decisively, took off his Taoist robe, and suddenly covered the other shore flower with it.
The crimson light vanished in the next instant.
The entire tomb chamber was plunged into darkness once again.
Those fierce Khitan warriors also vanished like bubbles at the same time.
"It's done."
Huang Bai wrapped the spider lily again and again, making sure that the eerie red light could no longer seep out, before letting out a long breath.
After going through countless hardships, I finally got my hands on this thing.
He looked down at his left arm and saw the Heavenly Decree shining brightly, with words slowly appearing on it:
The Heavenly Order to Exorcise Demons: Head to "The Legend of the Dragon" to break the illusions of the Khitan Ancient Tomb and thwart the Spiritual Cultivation Society's conspiracy.
The first half of the sentence shimmered with a faint golden light, clearly indicating that it was complete; however, the second half remained dim and lifeless.
"Thankfully, we can stay a little longer."
Huang Bai raised his head and his gaze fell on Ying Caihong.
He knew in his heart that Ying Caihong was the key to the "Spiritual Retreat Society's conspiracy." If he could kill her, he could most likely return to reality immediately.
But now is not the time to leave.
Because he had something more important to do.
There are two difficulties in the Five Hells Human Demon Method.
Firstly, the practitioner must be seriously ill;
Secondly, it must be able to identify human demons.
Ying Caihong happens to have both.
She was already suffering from a serious illness and was born with unusual eyes, so she might actually be able to cultivate the Five Hells Demonic Arts.
"So this is where it was..."
On the other side, amidst the ruins, Hu Bayi finally found the remains of the Japanese soldiers from back then, as well as the bones of his former comrades.
As time has eroded the remains, they are scattered and indistinguishable from one another, leaving only a desolate scene.
"Old Hu..." Fatty Wang and Shirley Yang stood silently beside him, unsure of what to say for a moment.
Hu Bayi remained silent for a long time before saying softly, "Let bygones be bygones."
At that moment, he finally felt relieved.
The huge weight that had been pressing on my heart for so many years has finally been lifted.
He took out a kerosene lighter and lit it gently.
A flame rose up, and he tossed it with his hand, drawing a faint arc in the air.
Wow!
Flames roared up, engulfing the mangled body and bones.
The flickering firelight illuminated Hu Bayi's calm face.
Scenes from the past flowed silently through his eyes. Those glorious years and bloody events were all burned away with this fire.
From this day forward, there will be no more tomb raiders in the world.
"I'm tired." Hu Bayi gazed at the firelight and slowly exhaled. "It's time to live a peaceful life."
Click click click!
Just then, a cracking sound suddenly came from the crystal dome above, and the cracks spread rapidly like a spider web.
The entire tomb chamber began to collapse.
"Let's go!" Hu Bayi made a decisive decision, shouting, "Follow me!"
This was the last time he used the Dragon-Seeking Technique, and the last time he led everyone to find a way out.
Rumble!
Stones rained down, and the tomb passage shook. The group ran frantically, narrowly escaping death amidst the collapse and floodwaters.
Wow!
The lake surface exploded with a roar, and the group clung to driftwood as they rushed to the surface, panting heavily and looking utterly disheveled, but they had ultimately escaped with their lives.
"Fatty's out!"
Fatty Wang shouted to the sky, his voice filled with the ecstatic joy of surviving a disaster.
"My funerary artifacts..." Big Gold Tooth was almost crying. "All those treasures I hid were washed away by the flood! I've lost everything this time!"
Before anyone could react, Ying Caihong had already lowered her head and respectfully bowed to Huang Bai.
"Lord, the devotional is ready to serve you."
She was willing to pay any price to survive.
Fatty Wang was about to speak when he suddenly paused, "Hey, wait a minute, Lao Hu, what are you doing?"
Everyone looked over.
On the driftwood, Hu Bayi knelt down on one knee, took out a wet ring from his pocket, and looked up at Shirley Yang.
"Shirley," he said softly, but with great seriousness, "marry me."
Shirley Yang paused for a moment, her eyes reddening slightly, then nodded gently.
As the sun sets, the lake surface glistens.
Two figures who had faced life and death finally embraced tightly.
Thus, the story of "Ghost Blows Out the Light" came to a perfect end.
