Chapter 67 Mission Progress Update
Chapter 67 Mission Progress Update
Although Natsuno knew Sakaki's true purpose, he could only pretend to be clueless.
"Forgive my ignorance, but stop being so mysterious and just tell me directly to improve efficiency."
Instead of answering immediately, Sakaki had Makoto zoom in on some of the dreamlike photos to examine them.
Most of them are photos of people playing around while transformed into other Pokémon.
"Abundant evidence suggests that Mew is a very gentle Pokémon that enjoys transforming into other Pokémon to play with."
"This is not what I want, even if it is a very rare Mythical Pokémon."
"What I want is a tireless weapon of war, an ultimate weapon born solely for destruction."
"What you need to do is use Mew's genes to create a completely new Pokémon that has never existed before!"
"To possess power that rivals or even surpasses that of legendary Pokémon, and a mindset that will forever obey Team Rocket!"
Seeing the fanaticism in Sakaki's eyes, Natsuno's pupils dilated, and his whole body trembled.
"This, this, this, this is insane! I never thought this was what you wanted!"
Natsuno's breathing became heavier, and he closed his eyes, showing Sakaki his inner struggle.
After a long two minutes, Natsuno exhaled forcefully and opened his eyes.
"I'm just a researcher who isn't valued by the Alliance. What I want is complex research."
"This plan isn't theoretically feasible, but it's exactly what I want, so I'm joining!"
Natsuno stared at Sakaki's smiling face and added coldly.
"But I'm only responsible for research; everything else is none of my business."
"I'm just an official researcher from the League, invited by Gyūki, understand?"
Sakaki's smile remained unchanged: "Of course I understand."
"Our Rockets team is full of talent, and you don't need to worry about anything else. Seriously."
As Masato retracted the projector, the wall on the right suddenly opened, revealing an invisible room.
"Come on, let's go to the underground base. There's something waiting for you in the lab."
The group entered the hidden room, which contained an elevator leading to the underground base.
Upon entering the spacious and bright laboratory, Natsuno saw Dr. Fuji again.
The progress of Mewtwo's quest chain in his mind was updated, but Natsuno's gaze was drawn to the table in the laboratory.
On the table, three pieces of golden, transparent amber of different shapes reflected a faint light.
Xia Ye went up to examine it closely and found that each piece of amber contained some uniquely shaped substances.
"This is amber we obtained by chance, and the structure it contains has not been found in any of the Pokémon we know."
"It's pretty certain that these amber pieces contain body parts of ancient Pokémon."
Sakaki's explanation confirmed one thing for Natsuno: these were probably the secret amber lost from the Dark Gray Science Museum.
As expected, the Rockets were not wronged; they were the ones who did the bad thing.
Sakaki looked at Natsuno with a smile again: "Although I really want you to start Project Mewtwo right now."
"But even I, a layman, know that extracting genes from rocks is an extremely difficult thing."
"Why not use these few pieces of amber to gain some experience first? Maybe we can figure out how to extract genes from fossils."
"The fossils from the Dream are of great importance and cannot be used as test subjects. I have also prepared some other ancient fossils."
Natsuno rolled his eyes inwardly: Wasn't it stolen from the museum along with everything else?
Evil organizations are great; it's like having a creative mode where you can just take whatever you want.
Sakaki patted Natsuno on the shoulder: "Good luck, you two."
"If you need anything, just tell Masato, and I'll find a way to arrange it for you."
After saying that, Sakaki left with Makoto.
Before leaving, he said to Naz, "Naz, your vacation has begun. We'll let you know if there are any more missions."
Sabrina nodded and looked at Natsuno: "Hey, you have to fight me sometime later, you can't escape."
Natsuno raised his hands in surrender again and watched as Natsumi left.
Dr. Fuji, who was observing Amber, couldn't help but be curious about Natsuno's actions.
So Natsuno told her about how she had tricked Natsume with Madoka.
Dr. Fuji then turned his attention to Madoka, and also glanced at Aya, who was holding Madoka.
"Life is truly miraculous, and the discovery of genes has brought even more miracles."
"People have never noticed this before, but perhaps genetic testing will become an important indicator for Pokémon breeding in the future."
Fuji looked up again: "Before arranging the follow-up work, let me show you around the place where you will be working."
Xia Ye nodded happily and followed the other party's directions.
Upon entering the next room, we found it divided into several small rooms, each 2 to 3 square meters, by glass partitions.
Each room has a separate door, and inside is a metal table that can connect to various devices.
Only in the two small rooms closest to the gate was there a sleeping Eevee.
Judging from the appearance of the one on the left, it is clearly the one that Natsuno saw before and obtained from the Fuji experiment.
There was a device next to the door of each small room. Fuji led Natsuno up to check the information on the left side of the Eevee.
The screen displayed the Eevee's various physiological indicators, which Natsuno didn't quite understand, as they were all medical terms.
"Having heard your request, all the other unexperimented Eevee were sent away, and I kept these two."
"This one is the one you've seen before, and the other one hasn't been tested yet. I thought you might need it."
"If you need other Pokémon for your experiments, you can arrange to come here."
Xia Ye shook his head and then nodded: "We're directly studying the gene regeneration inside the amber; we don't need this."
"But since we've already stayed, we can collect some genetic data to compare the genetic changes before and after the experiment."
Fuji looked up at Natsuno: "Did Devon successfully develop the machine? A gene sequencer?"
Natsuno nodded: "Yeah, have them deliver it in a couple of days. How can we do any work without the equipment?"
Natsuno thought about the fossil's revival again, took out his phone, and wanted to call Daigo.
However, the upper right corner of the screen shows no signal.
Fuji saw this, took out his phone, and came over to give Natsuno a few instructions.
"This is where shady things are done, so we block out outside signals."
"We need to connect to the outside world through an internal network; all content will pass through them."
"So you should be careful when communicating. I don't really care about myself, not many people contact me."
Fuji smiled and handed Natsuno's phone back to him; the network was already connected.
Although Natsuno had expected this, he couldn't help but sigh inwardly, "That's the downside of the information age."
The villains all prioritize information technology, making it difficult even for undercover agents.
I guess Giovanni was confident in this, which is why he dared to reveal his ultimate goal to me so early on.
With that in mind, Natsuno decided to change her mind and not call Daigo.
I dialed Cattleya's number directly, and unsurprisingly, the call was hung up.
Xia Ye shook his head, as if speaking to thin air: "Sigh, I can't get through, never mind."
"Let's go, Dr. Fuji, let's continue to familiarize ourselves with other places."
Meanwhile, in a secluded room deep within the base, many Team Rocket members were busy at work.
This is the monitoring room. One of the screens is being magnified, showing images of Natsuno and Dr. Fuji.
"No abnormalities found at the target."
"Continue listening."
