"In the simulation, these black-hat sorcerers didn't accomplish anything, but in reality, different things can cause unforeseen circumstances... They've gained some new knowledge and skills, and hopefully, they can take advantage of the chaos to get things done..."
He paused, stopped teasing the black swallow, and changed his words:
"We'll talk about this later. Little sister, pour the wine. I'll be right back."
"Eh?" Before Hei Shanyan could reply, she saw his thick shadow leap out of the window, rushing towards the crowd in the distance like a galloping water buffalo.
……
Ten minutes ago.
"Invisibility!"
Artemis held her breath and used her invisibility spell once more, watching the magical puppet, which had returned, slowly pass in front of her, dragging its meteor hammer.
Just now, she had fought the magical puppets multiple times, and nearly died several times. She had used more than twenty spells in total, and her magic power was less than half of what it used to be.
"How exactly did it track me? I've soaked my robe in the juice of aquatic cleansing herbs; surely it wasn't relying on sight and smell?"
"If I still had my original magic book, the spells within should be enough to easily escape..."
Artemis couldn't help but feel a sense of helplessness, like a skilled cook without rice. She gently stroked the thin magic book, which was completely different from the one before, and decisively stopped thinking about what had happened before.
"I wonder how my elder brother bypassed the blasphemous seal to log into the magic network. If only I could... Never mind, there's no need to rely on external forces like the magic network. My elder brother naturally has his secrets; it's enough for me to repay his kindness. However, although I've decided to help him find out the truth, my past experiences in the royal city have taught me that even when everything is clear, those in power always need a plausible excuse to shift the blame..."
As she watched her arm gradually turn the color of the trees, she knew her invisibility spell was about to fail. Without hesitation, she leaned against a tree, and relying on her innate forest instincts, she pushed herself up with her hands and sprang to the side, landing on a treetop.
The magical puppet looked up instantly, only to see tree branches swaying in the wind.
Ateliers's deep blue eyes reflected the clouds in the sky as she gazed at the dark figures of a group vaguely visible in the distant weeds, pondering with a sense of bewilderment:
"Could it be the legendary Black Hat Sorcerer? No, we can't be sure. The distance isn't enough; the Appraisal spell won't work. Maybe it's an innocent adventurer..."
Suddenly, her eyes sharpened, and she shouted loudly:
"Flying!"
As she turned the page of the magic book, she leaped into the air. Just as her toes left the treetop, a huge iron hook with a chain slashed the tree clean off.
The magical puppet leaped onto another tree, its heavy body snapping the tree in two. The soul fire in its eyes flickered in confusion, then it obeyed its body's command and continued its ascent.
Artemis's back shimmered with dragonfly-like overlapping wings as she flew rapidly northward. Her rigid moral compass compelled her to lead the magical puppets around the group of unknown people, but the next second, a sharp arrow pierced her body.
……
"Boss, I hit it!"
Mordeway shouted, dispelling the fourth-circle Sharp Arrow spell, and ran toward Ateliers who was falling from the sky.
"I didn't expect this trip to yield such unexpected gains." The demon deactivated the magical telescope, rubbed his still throbbing staff, and shouted to his underlings:
"Go and ask that black lady up there if she accepts elves as experimental subjects. Ugh, so annoying, why isn't that magic sorcerer here yet... Demon Girl Encyclopedia, check the current price of elves!"
Demon Girl Encyclopedia adjusted her cat ears, a barely perceptible hint of resistance flashing across her face. After a few seconds of silence, she spoke in her usual energetic voice:
"Boss, the price of female elves fluctuates between 300 and 3000 gold whites. The lowest bid comes from a merchant from Andora, and the highest bid comes from the Adventurers' Guild of the United Nations of Yanium. The price of male elves is similar, only about 10% lower than that of females."
She paused, then added a sentence:
“These offers are all for living elves.”
The demon's expression changed, and he immediately shouted:
"Moldway, alive!"
Demon Girl Encyclopedia breathed a sigh of relief and returned to her original expression.
"Damn it, these days consumers are so hard to please!" the demon lord complained loudly. "Elves aren't cats and dogs, they have bloodline magic!"
He sighed and continued:
"From now on, those poor bastards from Andora don't need to be included in the search; they're not considered consumers. Demoness, go heal that elf and then put a magic-suppressing shackle on him!"
"Yes." Demon Girl Encyclopedia lowered her eyes and walked towards Arterifus, who had already been dragged back to the camp.
Suddenly, a giant sword with a trailing tail shot out of the forest, passing through Mordeway's legs without any obstruction and embedding itself next to Atelier.
A piercing scream jolted Ateliers awake. She shook her still dizzy head and, enduring the pain of her fractured bones, rolled away from the giant sword that had been pulled back by the magical puppet.
"escape!"
A rich green light enveloped her, and Ateliers was immediately invigorated, her injuries temporarily relieved.
She glanced at the cat-eared girl who had just finished casting a spell not far away, a glint of light flashing in her eyes. She opened her mouth in surprise, then without hesitation, immediately called out:
"Acceleration! Flight! Invisibility!"
A magical glow enveloped the two of them, and then they quickly vanished.
……
The magic puppet, having lost its target, began to move in and out of the black-hatted sorcerers seven times.
"Boss, help..."
boom!
The black-hatted sorcerer, who was calling for help, had no time to react before his arm was severed by the wildly spinning greatsword.
With a single leap, the magical puppet snapped the black-hatted sorcerer's spine. It picked up the greatsword and turned its emotionless compound eyes to stare at the demon.
"Damn it, why aren't any of the debuff spells working?"
The demon counted his remaining spell slots and instantly broke out in a cold sweat.
"Boss, look at the patterns on that thing, it looks a bit like a magic immunity enchantment..." Mo Kun exclaimed in a shrill voice.
"Of course I fucking know!" the demon cursed, wiping his sweat as he turned to his underlings and asked:
"This inhuman creature has already killed three of my demon generals. Who else dares to go and fight it?"
A hush fell over the black-hatted sorcerers.
The demon could no longer contain himself. He looked at the magical puppet that was beginning to approach him and shouted:
"Is there really no one? Whoever dares to go, I'll reward them with 100, no, 50 gold whites! Brave souls, step forward!"
Everyone took a step back in unison, leaving only Modway, who had just received emergency treatment after losing both legs.
"No no no no!"
Mordeway's face was deathly pale, and he used his hands to prop himself up and began to crawl backward.
"What a true hero!" The demon clapped his hands in emotion, then immediately said with relief:
"The rest of you, let's go! There's no time to lose, prepare to meet our target!"
"This time, we must complete the mission even if it means everyone has to go all out! Otherwise, we'll really be stripped of our Black Hat Warlock status! And the consequences will be..."
The demon's voice faded into the distance. Modway looked sadly at the magical puppet that seemed to be still hesitating as it searched, swallowed hard, and stammered:
"Sharp arrow!"
Arrows with barbs and a longbow appeared in his hands. He wiped the sweat from his palms, which were half-covered with water, and raised the bow and arrow.
Mordeway looked shakily at the aiming frame. The soul fire reflected in the magic puppet's compound eyes sent chills down his spine. He took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and drew the bow.
Then, his hand slipped, and he shot the wrong way.
……
hum!
"Such dense magical energy fluctuations!"
Mitu rubbed his eyes, immediately logged onto the dark web, and activated his magic radar.
Not far in front of her, the magic network constructed by the radar was densely recessed. Upon closer inspection, there were fluctuations of thirty or forty spells at the same time, and almost half of them were applied to a certain central point.
"Near the location marked by the magic network, it looks like those black-hat sorcerers!"
Mitu opened its backend and looked at the commission interface.
[The commission has been updated]
[Current progress: 30%]
[Current progress: 35%]...
The progress bar was changing rapidly, and Mitu subconsciously gripped the reins tightly to prevent herself from falling off the horse in shock.
She thought with a mixture of surprise and uncertainty:
"Could it be my colleague?! Is he fighting a group of mages? That's incredibly aggressive!"
Mitu took a deep breath, tightened the stirrups on his boots, squeezed his legs together, and shouted:
"Little Rabbit, turn the speed up to the highest setting!"
The horse harnesses, imbued with magic by Mitu, linked together and then displayed the brilliance of an acceleration spell. With the blessing of several solidification spells, the horse beneath her instantly burst forth with the speed of a meteor!
……
……
Perhaps in places where the magic network doesn't cover, or in countries like Andora where magic is very unfamiliar, people might think that a high-level mage can easily defeat a bunch of low-level mages.
However, this is a trap. No mage can be confident that they can defeat more than two low-level mages. If they are prepared in advance, even a sixth-level mage may perish in the encirclement of a first-level mage.
For warriors, they may learn hundreds of combat skills in their lifetime. Half of them may be passive, and the other half they probably can't even remember the names of. They may only use one or two of them frequently. However, their muscle memory will make their combat actions subconsciously follow the combat skills they have learned. Therefore, the barriers between warrior levels are particularly thick.
The magic network grants low-ring mages exceptional flexibility, while restricting high-ring mages through spell slots and school point systems. The highest-level defensive spells might be rendered ineffective by the most ordinary scrolls, and a high-ring mage of the Evocation school would likely not possess many defensive spells. Thus, even a nuclear bomb might be rendered harmless by a small knife.
At that moment, Mitu had just fallen into a trap set by the black hat sorcerers. Even though she was a cyber police officer with magical network privileges and was eager to rescue people, she had filled her preparation slots with support and healing spells. However, she could not resist the various spell scrolls that the black hats had prepared in advance.
"Waaah, my butt..."
Mitu clutched her buttocks in pain and got up from the ground.
Her beloved rabbit horse grew to twice its original size and collapsed not far away. The horse tack, which had been enchanted with a solidification spell, had been burst by the giantification spell.
This is the unpredictable way low-level mages use their spells; no one knows whether they'll use the Hand of the Mage to throw a bomb or to poke a ditch...
A dozen spells instantly unfolded on the magic radar. Mitu touched the large, white patch that had ripped open at the back of her pantyhose and shouted angrily:
"You all deserve to die!"
