Chapter 8 Old Liao is here
Chapter 8 Old Liao is here
Lin Yuesheng and Lao Yang both work the night shift, while the morning shift is the same team: in addition to Aya, Chen Jiao, and Bao Xuan, there are two other girls at the counter, Lü Xiaoting and Bai Yun. No one has introduced the repairman; everyone just calls him "Master."
My master is an interesting person. He said that names are not important, but the master has a certain feeling about them.
The mechanic picked up a new car today, a Toyota Corolla. He was squatting by the door, wiping his new car over and over again. Zhong Liang, always quick to anger, exclaimed in surprise, "Sir, stop wiping! You'll scrape the door handle!"
The master suddenly stood up and stepped into the small bucket next to him, ignoring his wet trousers. He leaned over the doorknob to examine it carefully until he heard Zhong Liang's insane laughter behind him. Only then did the master realize that he had been tricked.
The master, who was in his forties, didn't want to argue with Zhong Liang, who was in his twenties. He muttered "you dog" under his breath and then said nothing more.
As for Lü Xiaoting, it's hard to say; she's aloof and unapproachable. Ye Chen inadvertently noticed a large burn on her left forearm. Looking at the icy Lü Xiaoting, he didn't dare ask any further questions.
Bai Yun is an older sister, gentle and intelligent. I heard that her family has already arranged a marriage for her, and she will be getting married at the end of the year. I don't know if it's a blind date or a long-distance relationship.
Bao Xuan, a lively Sichuan girl. Apart from Aya, this Sichuan girl was the only one who was so carefree and outgoing, hanging around the store with Ye Chen, completely disregarding the difference between men and women.
The phrase "I'm an employee" that she uttered wasn't fierce at all; on the contrary, it was charming and cute.
Old Liao has arrived.
When Ye Chen first met Lao Liao, he was already making up stories in his mind:
It turns out that the Lao Liao that Zhong Liang was talking about really was Lao Liao, an old man in his forties.
Old Liao is very fashionable, driving a Crown and with his hair gelled. I wonder if a fly would slip and fall if it stood on it?
The sound of a teacup shattering on the floor came from the office, followed by Zhong Liang's outburst, and the previously cheerful atmosphere in the store immediately turned cold.
"Do whatever you want, it's none of my business!"
Bang... Zhong Liang slammed the door and left, his face expressionless as he passed the store.
Just as Ye Chen was about to follow, Bai Yun stopped him and shook her head at him.
The office was quiet; General Manager Liao was still inside, and no one dared to disturb him.
When the shift changed at noon, General Manager Liao didn't come out. Bai Yun whispered a few words to the night shift workers, and the atmosphere among the previously chattering night shift colleagues turned cold.
After their shifts ended, Aya dragged Ye Chen out for lunch. Ye Chen didn't dare go; he only had 50 yuan left in his pocket. He had only been working there for a few days, and there was still a month and a half before payday.
However, the food prepared by the cafeteria lady was truly awful. Lin Feng suspected countless times that this lady was a relative of Zhong Liang's family, otherwise she would have been fired long ago.
Aya wasn't about to let Ye Chen off the hook. She said, "If you don't go, I'll tell President Liao... What should I say? Stealing underwear." She leaned close to Ye Chen's ear and whispered, "Hmm, that's a good one, a little boy in love stealing his older sister's underwear."
...Ye Chen broke out in a cold sweat.
They ended up going to Shaxian Snacks, where they ordered two servings of mixed noodles, one serving of steamed dumplings, and two tea eggs.
"Did Gillian give you your new leather shoes?" Aya asked softly, her face expressionless.
Ye Chen was speechless, unsure how to respond.
Aya looked at Ye Chen with a half-smile, her slender fingers holding chopsticks as she slowly stirred the noodles. After mixing, she gently pushed it in front of Ye Chen, then picked up a tea egg and leisurely peeled it.
"Yes." Ye Chen hesitated for a long time before finally replying with just one word.
"Choose Gillian or me?" Aya pressed the peeled tea egg into the noodles in front of Ye Chen, her tone gentle, yet it exploded in Ye Chen's heart like a thunderclap.
"I..." Ye Chen stammered.
"Silly boy, I was just kidding." Aya's clear laughter rang out.
Ye Chen subconsciously explained, "Ah Jiao gave me the shoes because of that P1i."
Aya smiled even more happily.
When they were almost finished eating, Aya dropped another bombshell, saying, "Mr. Liao is Zhong Liang's brother-in-law."
Ye Chen was instantly bewildered; his mouth was so wide open that he could fit an egg in it.
"Brother-in-law?" Ye Chen wanted to confirm with Aya whether he had said the right thing. After all, President Liao was over forty, while Zhong Liang was twenty-four. So even if his sister was a twin, she would be at most twenty-four.
A hint of sadness flashed in Aya's eyes as she said, "Zhong Yu, also known as the landlady, is twenty-two years old."
"It's so good to be rich." Aya's voice was calm, but every word was like a thunderclap.
Her gaze passed through the glass doors of Shaxian and landed on General Manager Liao's Crown.
Aya turned to look at the gaunt Ye Chen in front of her. She suddenly stood up, walked to Ye Chen's side, and lowered her voice: "Brother Chen, I'm waiting for you to make a fortune and then marry me. You have to work hard, okay? We've agreed to get our marriage certificate that day."
She turned around gracefully and left a crumpled ten-yuan note on the cash register before leaving.
Ignoring Ye Chen, who was still standing there in a daze, the late spring wind blew her hair. Aya took off the hairnet from her hair bun and let the wind dry her wet hair.
When Ye Chen returned to his dormitory, Zhong Liang was sitting in the cafeteria drinking beer.
He waved to Ye Chen, whose gaze swept across the dining table. On it were four unopened cans of Budweiser beer, a plate of peanuts, a plate of leftover pig's head meat from lunch, and two crushed aluminum cans on the floor.
Ye Chen sat down across the round table.
Zhong Liang pulled the tab, opened a can, and pushed it towards Ye Chen, saying, "Want to have a drink with me?"
"Okay," Ye Chen replied, though he was also unhappy.
The two remained silent, drinking their wine in silence. Later, Zhong Liangxian broke the silence: "Old Liao is my brother-in-law."
"Hmm," Ye Chen hummed softly.
"You know?" Zhong Liang looked up at Ye Chen and said, "That's right, good news doesn't travel far, but bad news travels fast."
"It's not a bad thing, is it?" Ye Chen thought of Aya and blurted out a reckless reply.
Zhong Liang didn't argue with Ye Chen. He changed the subject: "Old Liao, we're getting refurbished machines in."
"Hmm." Ye Chen hummed again.
"Are you dead? Can't you even talk? Can't you at least ask what to do?" Zhong Liang suddenly crushed the can in his hand, slammed it to the ground, and yelled at Ye Chen.
"What should we do then?" Ye Chen asked, startled.
"The biggest problem with refurbished machines isn't inspection, it's after-sales service." Zhong Liang regained his composure. "Jilin isn't exactly a no-man's-land, but there are loopholes to exploit. If Dadi can do it, Lao Liao certainly can too."
Zhong Liang didn't wait for Ye Chen's reaction. He continued, "The refurbished machines won't have major problems in the short term, but once sales increase, a lot of minor after-sales issues will arise. Someone needs to clean up this mess. If they can't, Huayu will be finished."
"For Lao Liao, money is the most important thing," Zhong Liang said in a low voice. "I can't persuade him."
"So, Brother Chen, I need to talk to you about something. Can you quit sales and go directly to after-sales service?"
