Chapter 577 Umbridge's Challenge
The clearing of the flaming snails in the Forbidden Forest went much more smoothly than expected. With the help of the three-headed dog Lululemon, Celen quickly dealt with those big guys with flames shooting from their tails.
However, although Luwei put in a lot of effort, the price was also obvious. Nearly half of the fried snails were crushed by it or swallowed directly as snacks.
After a lot of effort, Xilun finally managed to snatch twenty-nine intact shells from the snail's mouth.
These shells will later be made into wands by Xilun, but he hasn't figured out how to use them yet.
Wands made from blasting snails are generally highly offensive, and such wands often play a crucial role in war.
In addition, there is a "living" wand in Siron's shapeshifting lizard skin pouch, capable of casting the Killing Curse with 100% certainty, and also able to actively devour other wands with cores from the Blasttail. This wand nearly killed Voldemort on the spot during their last encounter.
Perhaps after swallowing these twenty-nine wands, it won't be "almost" anymore.
Siren planned to make the wand first, and then decide what to do next.
On the first day of the Easter holiday, Hermione, as usual, spent most of the night preparing a study plan for everyone that left almost no time for rest. Ron was quite surprised to find that they only had a few weeks left until the exam.
"What's so surprising? Isn't it the same every year?" Hermione said dismissively, tapping each of the small squares on the timetable with her wand, causing them to flash different colors according to the subject.
"Silen, this is yours." She handed over another completed form.
Unlike Ron and Harry, Siron has two nights of rest every week.
"That's not fair!" Ron exclaimed enviously. "Why does Siron get two days off every week?"
"That's not rest time, it's for him to make wands," Hermione said. "Those two days have Divination and Ancient Runes lessons, so there's relatively less homework. Harry's Quidditch training is also on those two days."
Harry's smile vanished. Like Ron, he had assumed the empty spaces were for rest time, but it turned out to be Quidditch practice that Hermione had reserved for him.
Okay, Quidditch training is just as important. And this is an opportunity Fred and George gave up in exchange for their departure; he has to win the Quidditch Cup.
"Oh, the owl has finally arrived!" someone shouted.
"Strange, why is the owl so late today?" Hermione glanced at the time; it was almost nine o'clock.
The owls were almost an hour late; normally they would already be in class by this time.
Siren looked up and saw a vast number of owls, far more than usual, swarming into the auditorium from outside.
Feathers, dirt, and leaves fell from the sky like snow, and Xiren had to turn the knife next to her into a large semi-circular lid to cover the sandwich and fried sausage in front of her.
Others followed suit after seeing this, which barely saved them their breakfast.
"Why are there so many owls today?" Ron muttered to himself.
He was a little too slow, and the pumpkin juice he had just poured was knocked over by a roll of newspaper falling from above, almost spilling all over him.
"Because it's Easter today," Siron said, reaching out to catch a package that fell from the sky.
Inside, there is a beautiful Easter egg decorated with various magical creatures made of icing. The largest and most eye-catching of these are the unicorn, dragon, and phoenix on the front of the egg.
There was also a letter from his mother next to it, which said that pressing the phoenix wings would open the Easter egg.
Xilun found the spot mentioned above and pressed down hard.
The next second, the beautiful chocolate egg cracked open with a pop, and all sorts of different candies gushed out like a fountain.
"They're so pretty, and these are all imported candies," Hermione said, looking at the candy wrappers.
"They've probably gone to work somewhere again," Xiren said, handing the candy to the others.
Although most students received Easter eggs from home, they were mostly filled with sizzling honey candies or Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans.
It was a rare treat to encounter so many candies they'd never seen before, and everyone happily accepted them, expressing their gratitude to Xilun.
Harry received two Easter eggs. One was from Mrs. Weasley, a normal chocolate egg containing a packet of honeydew candy.
The other one was a gift from Sirius Black; it looked like a giant golden snitch, stuffed with all sorts of different chocolates.
This is nothing unusual; these are all normal Easter gifts. What's unusual is that the gift wrappings for the owl-delivered gifts were already opened before they were even dropped.
A note was pasted on it, scrawled in red ink: Approved by Hogwarts Senior Investigator.
And it wasn't just their packages; everyone else's packages and letters were the same. They were all opened beforehand and then covered with that hastily written note.
"She's openly searching our packages!" Ron said angrily. "No wonder the owl was so late; she had to open every single package!"
"What is she afraid of?" Fred sneered.
"They're probably afraid someone will write to us saying that the outside world has actually been overrun by the Mystic and the Death Eaters," George said expressionlessly.
Their packages were also opened, and in worse condition than others; even their Easter eggs had a chip in them.
The perpetrator didn't even bother to cover it up, and just haphazardly stuffed it back in.
This made them feel even more disgusted than if they had eaten a skewer of cockroaches.
"Be careful, she's back," Xilun whispered a reminder.
By this time, Umbridge had already entered the auditorium through a side door. Ignoring the students' angry stares, she still wore that nauseating fake smile, as if nothing had happened.
It was as if, in her view, opening the students' mail packages was just a trivial matter.
She even glanced provocatively toward Gryffindor, and Cyrus was certain she was looking at Fred and George.
"She did it on purpose, to force you to make mistakes," Celen said.
"We know," Fred said, fixing his Easter eggs with jam and icing.
"What do you want to do?" Xilun asked.
"Of course, as she wishes." George narrowed his eyes.
"Don't be impulsive, it's not worth it," Hermione advised. "You're graduating soon."
"On the contrary, we are very calm," Fred said.
"It's just a few NEWT certificates, nothing special," George said. "But since she's sent us the challenge, we have no reason not to accept it."
