Chapter 509 Snowball Fight
Snowing.
On weekend mornings after December, people woke up to find the castle covered in a thick layer of snow.
Through the window, you could see Hagrid, wearing his thick mole-skin coat, sweeping a path through the field.
Many people ran outside to play and have snowball fights in the snow, except for the fifth graders—who were busy with their homework, which was piled up thicker than the snow.
Hermione and Harry, in particular, are finding their prefectural duties increasingly demanding as Christmas approaches, in addition to the seemingly endless homework.
For example, prefects were required to assist professors in overseeing the decoration of the castle—although this work was largely magical, the professors seemed to believe that student participation would create a more festive atmosphere. Thus, the prefects became the students' representatives.
"This job is far from easy," Harry complained after one of his trips back. "You're hanging up the ribbons, and Peeves grabs the other end and tries to strangle you. Plus, you have to be constantly on guard to prevent him from throwing the star props from the top of the Christmas tree at your head."
He pointed to his forehead, where next to the lightning bolt-shaped scar, there was a large, bulging, purplish-red bump, clearly caused by something hitting him.
"Nobody told me that prefects would face this kind of risk —"
"Come on, you just didn't notice Peeves because you were peeking at that Ravenclaw girl," Hermione suddenly said from the side.
Ok?
Simon and Ron both perked up their ears.
Harry blushed instantly. He tried to stop Hermione from continuing, but it was too late.
"What was that girl's name again? I remember she was also a Ravenclaw Seeker—oh right, Cho Chang," Hermione said.
"I, I didn't—" Harry blushed and protested, "I was just, I just happened to be thinking about something."
Hermione gave a mocking smile.
"Wait a minute—" Ron suddenly spoke up, "But I seem to remember that Cho Chang already has a boyfriend."
"That's right, Cedric Diggory of Hufflepuff is also a Seeker," Hillen said casually. "Speaking of which, wouldn't you call it a love-hate relationship under a fated duel? — If Gilderoy Lockhart were still alive, he would probably love this topic, at least he wouldn't need to steal other people's memories anymore."
"I'm a Seeker too—" Harry said instinctively, his tone carrying a hint of resentment he himself didn't realize.
"That's true, but Gryffindor's nemesis isn't Ravenclaw—" said Hillen, "but Slytherin."
Slytherin?
Harry blinked, instinctively thinking of their Seeker—Draco Malfoy.
"Oh, Sirius, I was in a pretty good mood today!" Harry felt like he had eaten a whole slug, and his face involuntarily scrunched up.
"I was just saying," Xilun smiled.
In the afternoon, Hermione and Harry, who wasn't in much spirits, went off to outwit Peeves again. Siren was called outside by Fred and George to have a snowball fight. Ron wanted to go too, but he had played a few extra games of wizard chess the night before and now had to finish his history of magic paper due tomorrow as soon as possible.
Outside the castle, the snow that had fallen all night had stopped. Hagrid used magic to clear a clean path, with more than five inches of snow on both sides and several roughly shaped snowmen.
Cerberus, the eight-eyed giant spider, and the harpy-headed horse-bodied winged beast—these should be Hagrid's creations.
"If you threw this at Ron, he'd jump out of his skin," Fred said, pointing to the snowman shaped like an eight-eyed spider.
He waved his wand, and the spider immediately came to life and began to crawl.
This thing would startle anyone, let alone Ron, if they saw it unexpectedly.
"Ron is so lucky to have brothers like you," Siron said.
"That's what we think too." George raised an eyebrow.
Soon, more and more people came out of the castle, leaving long rows of footprints in the snow.
Snowball fights are a traditional winter activity at Hogwarts, and they enjoy them several times a year, but each year is different.
Siren remembered that when he was in first grade, Fred and his friends would just use magic to make snowballs into a round ball and then throw it out, much like how Muggles had snowball fights.
But after learning new magic the following year, their skills improved, and they could command snowballs to fly in the sky without having to throw them themselves.
Later, they even created a set of Quidditch balls made of snow, including Quaffle, Runaway, and Golden Snitch, and they also created their own snow Quidditch game.
The goal was replaced with a person. Getting hit by a Quake ball is worth 10 points, a Wandering Ball (with a layer of ice on the outside) is worth 20 points, and a Golden Snitch (ice-covered stone) is worth 30 points.
There aren't any special rules; it's just that whichever team can't hold on any longer and leaves the game first gets 100 points, and then the total score is calculated.
However, the game was only held once before Mrs. Pomfrey and Professor McGonagall called it off.
If I had to say why, it's probably because the school hospital's beds can't accommodate all the patients.
This year, they've upgraded their methods again.
Under George's control, the eight-eyed giant spider quickly transformed into a lifelike snowman. It was practically indistinguishable from a real person, except for the lack of facial features.
Fred even made him a black cloak out of leaves. He seemed to have eaten fried chicken legs for lunch and hadn't washed his hands. After tying the cloak on, he accidentally smeared oil from his hands onto the snowman's hair.
Wait, a black cloak, straight hair reaching his shoulders, and slightly greasy hair—
"This is... Snape?"
"No, no, don't talk nonsense!" Fred immediately retorted loudly.
"We just made a snowman randomly, it has nothing to do with the professor," George said seriously. "You can't frame us."
"That's right, we have the utmost respect for Professor Snape," Fred said, glancing casually at a few Slytherin students.
But how should I put it, this thing is really too similar. You could say that except for the lack of facial features, everything else is exactly the same as Snape.
However, since both Fred and George have said no, it's probably just a coincidence.
Then Siren saw the Yeti voluntarily remove its own head and throw it forcefully at the Slytherins.
Malfoy was the first to be hit, getting a face full of snow and sitting on his backside.
George waved his wand, and the snowman bent down and drew a few lines on the ground, creating a new head for himself that was exactly the same as the previous one, even retaining the grease on his hair.
