Chapter 11 The Hunt Again
Chapter 11 The Hunt Again
Song Chen clenched his fist.
He's going out again tomorrow.
But this time, he's not a piece of trash with a 0.6 rating.
Song Chen turned around and went back to bed, where she lay down.
He was physically exhausted but mentally excited. He closed his eyes and tried to fall asleep.
Occasionally, the sound of patrolling soldiers' footsteps could be heard outside the window, along with the faint roars of beasts in the distance.
He didn't know how much time had passed before he finally fell into a deep sleep.
In his dream, he saw a red seed take root and sprout in his heart, growing into a towering tree.
The tree is laden with fruit, and each fruit is a core of life.
He reached out to pick it, and then he woke up.
It was already bright outside the window.
Song Chen sat up and stretched.
A new day, a new beginning.
He stood up, put on his coat, and opened the door.
When Song Chen arrived at the meeting point, the others were already waiting in the open space in the center of the camp.
Li Wei stood at the front, wearing a dark blue combat uniform, her hair tied in a neat ponytail.
She looked much better than yesterday; the wound on her arm had been bandaged, and her face had regained some color.
Wang Jun squatted down beside him, munching on a steamed bun. His eyes were clearer than yesterday.
Sun Qiang and Liu Tingting stood together, whispering to each other. When they saw Song Chen come out, they both fell silent.
Li Wei nodded to him: "Song Chen, good morning."
"morning."
Song Chen walked over and joined the line.
Zhang Zhenyun was smoking next to an armored vehicle. When he saw that everyone had arrived, he put out his cigarette and walked over.
"Roll call."
"Li Wei".
"arrive."
"Wang Jun."
"arrive."
"Sun Qiang".
"arrive."
……
"Song Chen".
"arrive."
Zhang Zhenyun nodded, his gaze sweeping over the people in front of him.
Then he frowned.
"Where's Zhao Wei? Why didn't he come to the assembly?"
No one spoke.
Sun Qiang and Liu Tingting exchanged a glance and lowered their heads. Li Wei remained expressionless, while Wang Jun continued to eat his steamed bun.
Song Chen remained silent; he didn't know where the person had gone either.
Zhang Zhenyun frowned even more deeply. He took out his phone, pressed a few buttons, and listened to it for a while.
Then he put down his phone, his expression somewhat subtle.
"Zhao Wei returned to the city last night."
"He said his leg injury was serious and he insisted on going back for treatment. The school actually approved it for such a minor injury. What's going on? Even if you have connections, you can't just disregard the rules like this."
The line fell silent for a second.
Then Li Wei scoffed softly: "A serious leg injury? It's just a cut, my arm injury is much more serious than his, and I didn't say I wanted to go back."
Sun Qiang muttered to himself, "He's scared."
Liu Tingting didn't say anything, but the expression on her face said it all.
Wang Jun finally finished his steamed bun, looked up, and unusually uttered a single sentence: "Coward."
Song Chen stood in the line, listening to the discussions, his face expressionless.
Zhao Wei is gone?
As expected.
After that slap yesterday, Zhao Wei huddled in the corner and didn't say another word.
That kind of person bullies the weak and fears the strong; they swagger around when things are going well, but are the first to run away when things go wrong.
If he actually stays, Song Chen will find it strange.
Zhang Zhenyun interrupted the crowd's discussion: "Alright, they're gone, so be it. It doesn't matter. Whether there are six people or five, we still have to kill the beasts."
His gaze fell on Song Chen, then suddenly stopped.
"you……"
Zhang Zhenyun stared at Song Chen, a strange glint in his eyes.
He took two steps closer and looked Song Chen up and down.
"Is your hand all better?"
Song Chen raised her left hand and extended it in front of him.
Yesterday it was a few bloody holes, but today it has completely recovered.
Zhang Zhenyun stared at the hand, remaining silent for a few seconds. Then he looked up at Song Chen's face.
"Your Qi and Blood levels... are not right."
Song Chen didn't say anything.
Zhang Zhenyun narrowed his eyes slightly, his gaze seeming to see right through Song Chen.
"Yesterday it was 0.6, but today I see it's around 1.1. It rose so much overnight, what happened?"
Everyone else in the group turned their attention to Song Chen.
Li Wei's eyes widened, and Wang Jun was no longer stunned.
Sun Qiang and Liu Tingting stared wide-eyed, their faces filled with disbelief.
A price increase of over 0.5% overnight?
What does that mean?
For an average person, it would be good if they could increase their cultivation by 0.1 after a year of practice.
Children from wealthy families take all sorts of supplements, yet their growth rate only increases by about 0.3 per year.
A 0.5% increase overnight?
That's something I wouldn't even dare to dream of.
Song Chen met their gazes without any sign of panic and gave the reason she had prepared beforehand.
"When I was lying in ambush yesterday, I found a fruit in the grass."
"Fruit?" Zhang Zhenyun raised an eyebrow.
"Hmm." Song Chen's tone was calm, as if he were talking about what he ate this morning.
"It was dark and small, hidden under the grass. I didn't know what it was, but it looked quite unique, so I just picked it."
"I was hungry last night, so I ate."
The line was completely silent.
The corners of their mouths twitched simultaneously.
Zhang Zhenyun stared at Song Chen for a long time, his gaze very imposing.
If it were an ordinary person, they might have already felt guilty.
But Song Chen simply met his gaze calmly.
After a long pause, Zhang Zhenyun suddenly laughed.
"A dark, unappetizing fruit? Do you think I'm a three-year-old?"
Song Chen didn't say anything.
Zhang Zhenyun took a step closer, lowered his voice, and said in a volume that only the two of them could hear, "I don't know where you got that thing, and I don't want to ask."
"But let me tell you, in places like outside the city, eating random things can kill you. You're lucky today, but what about tomorrow?"
Song Chen looked at him and nodded: "I know. Thank you, Captain."
Zhang Zhenyun stared at him for two seconds, then took a step back and resumed his normal volume.
"Alright, whatever you ate, it's a good thing your strength has improved. Now get in the car."
He turned and walked toward the armored vehicle.
He took two steps, then stopped, and without turning his head, said, "Remember, next time you find something, let me see it first. If it's poisonous, I can help you collect the body."
Song Chen watched his retreating figure, a slight smile playing on his lips. This captain is quite interesting.
The armored vehicles drove out of the camp again, passed through the defense zone and the warning zone, and finally stopped in the hilly area from yesterday.
Same old spot, same waist-high grass, same tactics: lie still and wait for the monster to come.
"Get out of the car, same as always, wait."
The five people jumped out of the car and crouched down in the bushes.
Zhang Zhenyun leaned against the car, lit a cigarette, and gazed into the distance.
The sun is shining brightly today, and the visibility is excellent.
Every detail of the ruins is clearly visible: collapsed walls, twisted steel bars, and the occasional dark shadows that fly over the ruins—those are flying creatures among the alien beasts.
Li Wei asked in a low voice, "Captain, are we still waiting for the wild boar today?"
Zhang Zhenyun replied calmly, "Not necessarily. We killed off that batch of wild boars yesterday. What comes out today might be something else, like wild dogs, mutated wolves, or even a mutated bear if we're unlucky."
Sun Qiang's face paled: "A mutated bear? A second-tier one?"
"Nonsense, even a level one bear is harder to deal with than a wild boar."
Zhang Zhenyun exhaled a puff of smoke. "But don't worry, there aren't many Tier 2 cultivators in this area. You won't be lucky enough to run into one."
"Even if we do run into them, I'll take care of it. Don't be afraid."
