Chapter 6 Sasuke Learns Magic
Chapter 6 Sasuke Learns Magic
Ninjas don't have the habit of not talking while eating, and they often use soldier pills to obtain the necessary energy during missions.
Jelf and Mavis had been alone for far too long, so naturally, the three of them started chatting at the dinner table.
"Sasuke, how did today's mission go?" Mavis initiated the conversation, as she was actually quite interested in ninja missions.
In some ways, the missions in the Ninja Village are quite similar to those in the Mage Guild. However, compared to the Ninja Village, the missions in the Mage Guild are entirely chosen by the mages themselves, offering a much higher degree of freedom.
Sasuke pursed his lips slightly, somewhat dissatisfied, and said, "They're all missions that don't help improve our strength at all. Otherwise, Naruto wouldn't be complaining all the time that Kakashi-sensei doesn't ask you guys to do missions."
Mavis smiled somewhat sheepishly: "Well, the main thing is that we're worried about being noticed for something amiss during the mission, since Zeref and I are still relatively unfamiliar with ninjutsu."
As she spoke, Mavis couldn't help but reveal a hint of longing, saying, "Speaking of which, it's been a long time since I've had an adventure or done a quest. I really miss it..."
Sasuke couldn't help but put on a deadpan expression and said blankly, "What do you mean by worrying about being noticed? You're almost closer to Naruto and Sakura than I am, aren't you?"
Mavis gave Sasuke a disapproving look and retorted, "How could that be? The bond between you, Naruto, and Sakura is far from trivial!"
Is that the point? Sasuke looked at Mavis speechlessly. The point was clearly not to let anyone notice anything unusual!
Stopping from arguing with Mavis about who was closer to whom, Sasuke turned to Zeref, who had been silent but listening to his conversation with Mavis with a faint smile, and asked seriously, "Speaking of which, I've done what I was supposed to do as promised, so shouldn't you keep your promise to teach me to become stronger?"
As soon as Sasuke said this, the relaxed atmosphere at the dinner table gradually dissipated. Mavis looked at Sasuke's determined expression, opened her mouth as if to say something, but ultimately remained silent.
Zeref, completely unaffected, casually ladled a bowl of soup for Mavis, glanced at Sasuke, and nodded in agreement, "Alright, let's start tomorrow then."
Sasuke's eyes lit up, his voice brimming with barely concealed excitement: "Great!"
Although he didn't think Zeref would be the kind of person to go back on his word, Sasuke couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief after receiving Zeref's promise to start learning magic the next day. He smiled slightly and continued eating his meal in a good mood.
Mavis glanced at Zeref, somewhat worried about Sasuke's reckless pursuit of power, and absentmindedly drank the hot soup that Zeref had just handed her.
"So delicious!" The moment the hot soup touched her lips, Mavis's wandering thoughts were instantly pulled back. She exclaimed in surprise, once again marveling at Jelf's culinary skills.
"I never expected you to be such a good cook, Jelf!" Mavis couldn't help but praise.
Sasuke, who was standing nearby in a relaxed mood, couldn't help but nod. Objectively speaking, Zeref's cooking skills were indeed commendable.
Jelf lowered his eyelashes and smiled faintly, "Four hundred years is a long time. Occasionally, I'll find something to do to pass the time."
Sasuke said speechlessly, "Four hundred years is such an exaggerated time frame."
Jelf remained calm, smiling without saying a word.
The next day, while Sasuke and Zeref went to a remote place to learn magic, Mavis replaced Sasuke and formed a three-person team with Naruto and Sakura to search for a lost cat.
Compared to Naruto and Sakura, who were rather uninterested, Mavis was full of enthusiasm. Looking at Mavis like this, Sakura said listlessly, "Mavis, I really envy you for being able to do D-rank missions with such enthusiasm."
Naruto, standing nearby, also slumped over and complained, "Even Sasuke is taking leave from missions now. When are we going to be able to take on high-level missions again, Kakashi-sensei?!"
Kakashi, who was being watched by Naruto and Sakura with a mournful gaze, leaned lazily against a tree, looking completely relaxed.
He began to reassure her, "Ninjas all have to start with D-rank missions. You have to be patient, like Mavis did, which is very good..."
While Kakashi told Naruto to learn from Mavis, he felt something was off about the way the three of them were doing the mission.
Kakashi reasoned that Mavis rarely did missions anymore.
However, it was quite strange that I had agreed to take on five students in the first place... The question flashed through my mind and was quickly suppressed by the magic.
Thinking of Sasuke, who had unusually taken the day off, Kakashi became curious and couldn't help but ask Mavis, who had helped Sasuke get the day off, "Mavis, do you know what Sasuke did on the day off?"
As soon as Kakashi said this, Naruto and Sakura both looked over at him.
As Mavis said at the dinner table yesterday, the bond between Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke is something that Mavis, who was added to the mix through magic, could not match.
Mavis, who was being stared at by three pairs of eyes at the same time, thought of the look in Sasuke's eyes yesterday, which showed a desperate desire to become stronger. She sighed inwardly and said, half-jokingly, "Sasuke and Zeref went to train together, didn't they?"
Sasuke went to train with Zeref? Kakashi was taken aback. Were Sasuke and Zeref really that close? A familiar sense of unease resurfaced in his mind.
Before Kakashi could investigate further, Naruto couldn't help but exclaim, "What! We're on a D-rank mission, and Sasuke and Zeref secretly went to train! Damn it, why didn't they call me?! Will Sasuke secretly get stronger and surpass me?!"
A bead of cold sweat appeared on Sakura's forehead, and she retorted without any politeness, "Sasuke is stronger than you, okay, Naruto!"
“Speaking of which, Zeref is too reclusive. He almost never participates in our activities. Next time he trains with Sasuke, we must make him invite us!” Naruto said casually.
At this moment, Zeref's image also appeared in Sakura's mind. Perhaps because Zeref was a few years older than them, Sakura always felt a bit more distant from him compared to Mavis.
Mavis hesitated for a moment before asking Kakashi's team, "By the way, Sasuke always seems so eager to get stronger, why is that?"
