Chapter 37 Resistance
Chapter 37 Resistance
Lu Dan lay on the edge of the rooftop, which was covered in rubble, with an unlit cigarette dangling from his mouth.
Although the situation is urgent, every second of rest is precious, as there have been too many tense and exciting moments, and our nerves need to recover.
He stared at the iron gate blocked by discarded oil drums.
"Squeak—"
A huge fist-shaped bulge suddenly appeared in the center of the iron gate. Clearly, the real "skinless security guard" didn't like people playing hide-and-seek on his turf.
"They're here."
Lu Dan lit a cigarette in his mouth, rolled over to the right, and the rope made of school uniforms, bed sheets and long underwear tied together in a knot instantly straightened.
Under the intense pulling sensation, Lu Dan felt like a piece of cured meat hanging on a hook, being slammed hard against the wall.
"Bang!"
He crashed onto a small, protruding balcony on the fifth floor, the pain from his broken ribs unbearable, causing his vision to go black for a few seconds.
But those few seconds of darkness were worth it; he successfully pulled himself out of his prey's plate and hid under the table.
The instant he landed, a deafening "boom" resounded overhead. The rooftop door on the seventh floor, unable to withstand the impact, was blasted out along with the discarded oil drums.
The heavy footsteps shattered the silence of the rooftop; the skinless monster had entered.
In the open space below the dormitory building, a violent aesthetic, built from piles of flesh and blood, is unfolding in the outside world.
Li Mu completely transformed into a meat grinder. He didn't care about defense at all. His bright red muscles were like taut steel cables, carrying an aura of mutual destruction. He forcefully rammed the dean of students and the old dormitory supervisor into the flower bed next to him, raising dust and sending stones flying.
Li Mu actually withstood the combined attack of the two old monsters. His left arm transformed into countless tentacles, tightly binding the hundreds of waving arms of the headmaster. His right leg kicked hard into the dormitory supervisor's huge mouth, preventing it from closing.
"That's interesting."
The dean of students pushed up his gold-rimmed glasses, maintaining his superior arrogance even though his Zhongshan suit was torn.
Hundreds of arms behind him swung simultaneously, each hand precisely grabbing a muscle in Li Mu's body and tearing it apart forcefully.
"Sizzle—"
"Why don't students these days know how to respect their teachers?"
The head of student affairs' voice was filled with sarcasm, as if he were evaluating a failing exam paper: "Li Mu, have you forgotten? Your current body, your power, and even your lingering consciousness were all 'created' by us. You're nothing more than a slightly stronger ghost, yet you dare to defy your creator."
Li Mu paused for a moment because of those words.
The old dormitory supervisor, who had been waiting for his chance, made his move. His big mouth opened suddenly, and then closed swiftly and decisively like a mousetrap.
"Click—"
With his bones shattered, Li Mu's right arm, which he used to support his balance, was bitten off at the root.
"Delicious...this rebellious flavor is the most satisfying."
The old dormitory supervisor chewed on the severed arm, his cloudy eyes gleaming with greed, and the liquid dripping from the corner of his mouth was either saliva or blood.
Li Mu staggered backward, blood gushing from his severed arm. He used his remaining left tentacle to support himself on the ground, staring intently at the two enormous creatures in front of him.
"Order, order is the lifeline!"
The head of student affairs slowly took out a snow-white handkerchief from his pocket and wiped the bloodstains from his hands.
"The reason Chengde Middle School is thriving is because of this perfect order! Bad kids become good kids, and good kids become perfect shells. Isn't this a kind of evolution?"
He turned to look at Su Ke, who was standing motionless not far away, his eyes filled with fervor.
"Look! What a perfect creation! Once Su Ke completes the assimilation, this year's graduation ceremony will be unprecedentedly grand, and the entire school's prosperity will begin!"
Su Ke, who was standing to the side, walked over. Her physical body seemed to be acting out of control, creating wrinkles at her joints. With each step, something seemed to writhe violently beneath her skin, as if the soul within was trying to break free of its restraints. Yet, her face still wore an impeccable smile.
She walked step by step toward the monster that had just bitten off her friend's arm, and the tyrant who spoke of order.
"Hello, Director. Hello, Dormitory Supervisor."
Su Ke bowed slightly, clasped her hands in front of her lower abdomen, ignored Li Mu's desperate eyes, and asked softly, "Do you need any help? As a good student, I have an obligation to maintain the cleanliness of the school."
Her gaze fell on Li Mu as if she were looking at a bag of garbage.
The Other World.
In the corridor on the fifth floor of the dormitory building, Lu Dan ran wildly along the wall.
His judgment was correct; a dull thud came from the rooftop above, likely the sound of the security guards violently dismantling the water tower.
As expected, the monster followed the classic horror movie formula, believing its prey would hide in a closed water tank.
"Idiot, who the hell would put themselves in a can and wait for someone to open it?" Lu Dan gritted his teeth and sprinted up the stairs.
This road is not easy to travel.
The corridor was filled with floating human skins, like fluttering flypaper, scratching haphazardly in the air.
Several human skins hung down from the ceiling, and cold hands brushed across Lu Dan's neck.
His scalp tingled, but he didn't stop. Using the momentum of his body, he crawled under the skin and gave the thing a big slap.
Excuse me, I'm in a hurry.
He rushed up to the sixth floor, and above that was the rooftop. This tactic would probably only hold the monster off for a few minutes. Once he realized the water tower was empty, he'd realize he'd been tricked.
Lu Dan had to get to the main entrance of the rooftop before the monster came to its senses.
He wants to take advantage of the rules.
The building's structure meant that the iron gate on the rooftop was the only way out.
As long as the monster is completely locked on the rooftop, the remaining human-skinned monsters in this building will be nothing more than slightly troublesome obstacle course equipment for Lu Dan.
"Faster, faster!" My heart was pounding wildly in my chest.
Lu Dan could hear the monster's angry roar after the water tower upstairs was torn apart, and it realized it had been tricked.
Lu Dan rushed up the last step, where a skinless figure carrying a pale white lantern stood in the center of the rooftop. He slowly turned around and said, "Found you... little mouse." The leeches behind the monster stood up excitedly.
Lu Dan simply held onto the doorframe, showing not even a hint of fear. Then, he straightened his tattered uniform and slowly raised his middle finger in front of the monster.
Goodbye, ex!
He slammed the door shut, pulled out his patrol notebook, and wrote in flowing handwriting:
[Something unusual or abnormal has appeared on the dormitory rooftop!]
Then he slowly walked downstairs, and the rooftop behind him suddenly began to shake violently...
