Chapter 1458 - 206: Guiding Envoy (2)
Along the way, Xu Shu noticed that every household around them kept their doors and windows tightly closed but peeked through the cracks to look at them.
Although the extent of their actions varied, none could escape from Xu Shu, who possessed "spiritual perception."
It was clear that everyone had eyes filled with hostility toward Yang Su, much like the couple before, deeply rooted and apparent.
"This widow indeed has some problems..." Xu Shu nodded silently in his heart.
Perhaps feeling the surrounding hostility, Yang Su and her daughter hurriedly walked to the top of the entire village.
Here stood the most secluded yet largest stilt house.
"Sir, this is the home of a humble woman. If it’s not too much trouble, why not... why not come in for a cup of tea?"
Yang Su bit her lip lightly and opened the door, revealing the dark, old-house breath behind due to the blocked light.
She couldn’t quite explain what kind of mental preparation she had done internally, as if inviting Xu Shu in for tea was an embarrassing act for her.
Xu Shu waved his hand, saying, "No need. The county magistrate still has important duties to attend to. If there’s a need, I’ll come back to you."
Upon hearing this, Yang Su’s face immediately turned crimson: "Alright, okay!"
As Xu Shu exited the door, making sure Yang Su and her daughter weren’t watching, he leaped onto the roof, hurried a few steps and sneaked into a hidden gap between the houses.
He pulled out the small jade Buddha and placed it on the ground, pointing it towards Yang Su Widow’s home from afar.
"Keep an eye on it, don’t let anyone escape, but also don’t kill them directly." Xu Shu extended his hand, intending to pat his chest, but thought better of it and tapped his head, as a reminder.
"Mmm~"
The small jade Buddha made an eerie air vibration, lightly pecking Xu Shu with its illusory big mouth as a response.
Xu Shu nodded in satisfaction and immediately left without staying longer. With several twists and turns, he returned to an intersection.
Xiao Ya was waiting for him there and asked, puzzled, "What were you doing just now? Why did it take so long?"
Xu Shu chuckled: "I planted a true eye."
Xiao Ya tilted her head, "Uh? What kind of array eye?"
Without dwelling on the topic, Xu Shu shifted the conversation, "That woman is so poor she begs along the street for food, and her daughter is starving with a sallow complexion, yet they live in the village’s best house. Doesn’t that strike you as odd?"
Xiao Ya composed herself, "Do you really need to say it? Didn’t you notice? She has a lotus tattoo on the back of her neck, emanating a faint... well, an indescribable aura. It doesn’t seem like curse erosion, but it’s definitely not the smell of mundane life. This woman is really peculiar. As you said, she’s likely not human. I believe it’s better to capture her directly and interrogate her under torture."
She awaited Xu Shu’s decision, as matters like these called for him to take action.
However, Xu Shu’s tone turned suspicious, "A lotus tattoo on the back of her neck?"
"Didn’t you really see it?" Xiao Ya was taken aback.
"Damn, too distracted by the front, where would I get the time to look at the back of her neck?" Xu Shu muttered quietly.
"What in the front?" Xiao Ya didn’t catch it.
"I said I was too careless before," Xu Shu coughed, hastily changing the topic, "Could the lotus tattoo possibly be Seven Treasures Lotus?"
Xiao Ya replied, "Doesn’t seem like it, way too different, probably not closely related, likely something else entirely. But we could investigate it, so I’m asking if we should just apprehend her directly? This woman is full of lies, hiding a big secret from us."
"Hmph, I saw she had a big secret long ago. The prettier the woman, the more she lies! But no worries, no rush to arrest. We’ll start with a grassroots investigation."
"Oh. Do you have any clues? The villagers here don’t seem welcoming toward outsiders." Xiao Ya asked.
"It’s fine, I have my ways."
With that, Xu Shu hopped onto the stilt house’s edge, transforming into a pool of dense blood — after all, they are battle comrades born (Xu Shu’s birth, Xiao Ya’s death), and Xiao Ya had long witnessed the prowess of the "Blood Dome."
Thus Xu Shu found no need to hide, boldly using his skill, traveling silently upon the eaves.
Seeing this, though Xiao Ya was puzzled, she followed along.
Her methods were quite different from Xu Shu’s obviously mystical and uncanny state.
Though she was a Living Cultivator, Xiao Ya hid the fat dog and the hawk, then took out a prism the size of a fist.
This interfered with the surrounding space, twisting the light, and instantly disappeared.
Xu Shu noticed a flash of white in the snowfield, and then couldn’t see Xiao Ya’s figure, but through "spiritual perception," he could sense a strong presence following behind him.
"Tsk, is this optical stealth? If not for my spiritual perception, she’d be completely invisible, this stealth is really invincible... She could even knock me down using mechanics before.
"Interesting, could the traits of the ’Divine Child’ pathway be that they can distort, amplify, or control these scientific principles? Damn, really a scientist, a Transcendent scientist... Could she hand-craft a nuclear bomb? It’s a pity, given that ’aliens’ absorb nuclear radiation and mutate, such powerful weapons were banned."
No more time was left for Xu Shu to muse.
Soon enough, he returned to the entrance of the village, arriving back at the home of the red bean paste grinding villagers who had the most intense emotions and the largest courage earlier.
The sibling duo were still grinding bean paste, but Xu Shu didn’t see the couple at the millstone.
Inside that closely shut door, a slight creaking sound came through.
