Chapter 4763 Murderous Intent on a Rainy Night (The End)
This time, the noose wasn't placed on his hands, but around his neck. Dr. Manhattan seemed to have made no modifications in this regard; Arkham Batman experienced the full hanging process and was thus hanged.
However, after dying, he can remain on the field as a spirit, and can even switch to the first-person perspective of different teammates. He thinks this feature is quite good, allowing him to watch his teammates complete the game as if he were there.
What's infuriating, however, is that the souls of the other teammates can also remain, and they can still communicate with each other. Constantine said smugly, "How about that? I'm fast enough, aren't I? I should be the first to complete the seal."
Arkham Batman really didn't want to talk to him. He went up to Rorschach and said, "Thank you for taking the blow for me. I admit I misunderstood you before. Perhaps I can invite you to the Presidential Palace for a chat."
Rorschach looked dejected and couldn't hear what Arkham Batman was saying. He said, "We've completely messed up. The devil is winning. It must be because one of us did something wrong that we didn't receive Christ's mercy..."
Arkham Batman sighed. Rorschach would always be lost in his own world. Even on the religious channel, it was the same; his mind was filled with the idea that the devil was going to defeat Christ, that his invincible Lord Jesus Christ might be harmed, and that this was because some of them were sinful.
One could only say that Arkham Batman was finally starting to feel a little fortunate that he'd been matched up against Constantine, because when it came to guilt, even if he were a president Rorschach disapproved of, he could never compare to Constantine. This guy's sins were written all over his face. Sure enough, Rorschach angrily went to confront Constantine, claiming that his sins were so deep that God refused to help them punish the devil.
Batman from Arkham continued to watch from his teammates' perspectives. There was really no one left to switch to except Black Widow. However, to his surprise, Black Widow's perspective was now underwater.
For some reason, she jumped into the lake and found a hole at the bottom. Luckily, she had the grappling hook skill, which allowed her to move quickly through the water. Even so, it seemed she also had some passive ability that increased her lung capacity, allowing her to stay in the underwater cave for nearly ten minutes without suffocating.
With a "whoosh," a head emerged from the water in the dark underground cave. Black Widow gasped for breath, wiped her hair and face, and slowly swam to the shore.
Ahead lay a dark, deep cave passage. Without hesitation, Black Widow walked towards it. But just then, a figure instantly appeared on the other side of the lake.
Batman from Arkham City felt a chill run down his spine. With the four seals completed, Schiller had been fully enhanced, seemingly possessing full map vision and teleportation abilities. He had already left the castle via the waterways, yet Schiller was still chasing after them. How could they possibly win this game?
Black Widow was clearly startled as well. However, the Black Widow from the central universe had told her quite a bit about Schiller, so she knew a little about him. Black Widow moved silently to a corner of the cave, then squatted down and remained motionless.
Arkham Batman understood. Schiller's long-range clairvoyance and teleportation abilities both had cooldowns. Arkham Batman even suspected that his clairvoyance couldn't pinpoint specific individuals, only areas.
She was targeted by this X-ray vision ability because she was unaware that X-ray vision could pass through walls, and was caught off guard, revealing her back, which led to her being targeted directly.
Now that Black Widow is on guard and knows Schiller's exact location, if she just crouches down facing Schiller, given his poor eyesight and the darkness of the cave, he might not be able to catch her.
Batman in Arkham silently cheered for Black Widow. It takes immense courage to maintain that stance under such circumstances, because Schiller looked truly terrifying.
The knife in his hand was now completely red, and his eyes looked like deep, bloody holes. He kept pacing along the shore, constantly looking in the direction of the Black Widow, walking back and forth in that direction several times.
Arkham Batman could tell that Schiller was using exhaustive search to locate her. And this time, he walked straight towards Black Widow. Arkham Batman knew that the melody playing in Black Widow's head must have reached its climax.
The blood-red sword tip was less than 20 yards from Black Widow's nose, yet the female agent remained breathless and motionless. She was no longer crouching, but lying on her side against the wall, like an inconspicuous shadow in the corner. This way, unless Schiller had nothing better to do than kick the corner of the wall, he would have no chance of spotting her.
Schiller's mobility seemed limited; he wasn't as agile and couldn't perform certain movements, including groping with his hands or probing with his feet. So he only swung his knife at the wall, shaving off two strands of Black Widow's hair but leaving no wound. Therefore, Black Widow, lying on her side in the corner, went unnoticed.
Seemingly believing Black Widow might have already left, Schiller ultimately teleported away. But Black Widow remained motionless, like a deadly spider lurking in a corner. The cave was so quiet it wasn't even the sound of wind.
Just a few minutes later, the figure reappeared. Clearly, the four layers of seals had reduced his skill cooldown to a minimum. If Black Widow were currently escaping through the cave, she would definitely be targeted by him with her back turned. Fortunately, the female agent was extremely cautious and lay there motionless.
Schiller teleported away again, and this time Black Widow didn't hesitate. She used a grappling hook to stick to the ceiling and slowly hoisted herself up. The cave was very high; her toes were at least 100 yards off the ground, far beyond Schiller's reach, and she was against the wall.
Sure enough, Schiller returned again, and this time he carefully walked along the corner of the wall. But unfortunately, the Black Widow had already gone up, so checking the corner was pointless.
Schiller teleported away again, but Black Widow still wouldn't come down. She just hung there waiting for half an hour. Even Batman from Arkham was somewhat impressed with her. You could say that anyone who reaches the top in any field has some skills.
Half an hour later, Black Widow slowly lowered herself down and backed into the cave. She could feel the light in the cave getting brighter, which meant she was getting closer to the exit.
But suddenly, a long, sharp shadow swept past her head. A dark figure stood at the cave entrance, staring at the Black Widow's back, a cold smile on his face.
"Shh!"
"Ahhhh!!!"
As Black Widow screamed, a castle in the rain appeared before everyone's eyes, and the narrator's voice rang out again: "The evil spirits still linger..."
Arkham Batman angrily slammed his fist on the wall next to him.
He's the one who ruined Black Widow. Because he initially emphasized to her not to be caught with her back turned, and absolutely, positively, not to expose her back to Schiller. This warning worked most of the time, but Schiller took advantage of the fact that everyone else knew his abilities, deliberately setting a trap for her.
In the final escape tunnel, if Black Widow enters from the front, it will take Schiller time to lock onto her. She will definitely see Schiller before he sees her, because the human eye doesn't need to focus, and there's light at the cave entrance. She can use her ability the instant she sees Schiller.
The Widow's Sting has a forced interruption effect, and the grappling hook can increase movement speed. While Schiller is focusing, she can use all her abilities and then force her way out of the cave, escaping. Schiller definitely won't be able to chase her; at worst, she'll take a hit, but she'll still be able to get out.
The problem was that Black Widow was overly cautious. Remembering Batman's warning from Arkham that she couldn't let Schiller see her back, and considering Schiller's repeated returns, each time landing near the lake, Black Widow felt that facing the lake with her back to the exit would be safer. She reasoned that if Schiller reappeared by the lake while she was passing through the passage, activating his X-ray vision, she wouldn't be caught if she was facing him directly. So she started inching backwards towards the exit.
But this was actually a trap set by Schiller. Schiller returned several times, not to hone his skills, but to lure Black Widow into a psychological trap: he could only teleport to the lakeside, not directly into the passage.
But in reality, he could have entered the cave passage and even blocked the exit. He deliberately passed the message back and forth several times to lure Black Widow into the passage backwards. Once she went in backwards, she would essentially be sending his back to her, allowing Schiller to focus before she could spot him and then kill her with two stabs.
"He's so cunning," Black Widow, now a spirit, complained as she watched the story unfold. "I thought the game was designed so that he couldn't block the door and wouldn't be allowed near the exit, which is why he kept lingering by the lake. I never imagined he was just faking it!"
“I’m sure this was part of his calculations,” Arkham Batman said. “It’s just that you’re too smart for him to perform the act of hitting an invisible wall for you, for fear of giving himself away. Otherwise, you would have seen him repeatedly crashing into the ‘walls’ blocking the escape routes.”
Thinking of that scene, Black Widow couldn't help but laugh, but she quickly added with some dissatisfaction, "What were the game designers thinking? The ghosts are already so powerful, how can they still block the door?"
“That door is definitely not the only exit,” Arkham Batman said. “There’s no such thing as an unsolvable doorway. If you’re worried about it blocking the door, you can just swim back and take another exit.”
"Furthermore, each of us has strong crowd control skills. If our health is still relatively good, a crowd control skill combined with a single hit can allow us to charge out. Therefore, there's nothing wrong with this design."
Black Widow sighed and said, "When the fourth person was sacrificed, the narrator started reading the plot, reminding me of the cave in the lake. I thought the seal was completely broken and I could only escape alone. If I had known it would be like this, I would have preferred to finish the last seal."
"You know the location?"
"Of course. But that thing is in the tower on the west side, which is too far away from me. I don't have any puzzle-solving speed-up skills, and it's too risky to go there. The pond is closer to me, so I thought I'd just run away."
Arkham Batman nodded; he couldn't blame Black Widow. Arkham Batman was a superhero; he'd rather save lives or sacrifice himself to seal away demons. But Black Widow was an agent, and with no hope of success, it was time to retreat. How much money did they get paid to risk her life like this?
"The game design is pretty good, it's quite interesting." Arkham Batman's eyes gleamed with excitement. "We mainly lost this round because we didn't understand many of the rules. For example, there's a limit to the number of times you can be hung up, and ghosts can block doors."
"More importantly, we've never been ghosts before, so we don't know how many restrictions there are or what skills they have. I want to be a ghost for a while, understand how ghosts operate, and I'm sure I can assemble an exorcist team to seal away demons."
Arkham Batman strode out of the elevator, looked up at Dr. Manhattan, and shouted, "I can bring you a few more players. Let me be the ghost one more time."
“No problem.” Dr. Manhattan readily agreed. “If you all enter the elevator from the same lobby, you’ll be assigned to the same game. I’ll arrange your roles according to your request.”
Arkham Batman nodded, then began to consider which unlucky individuals he could use as test subjects. He turned to look at Hunt, who was already seated to the side—it was time to talk to Greed about a last-minute substitution.
Some people say that the episodes are too long and make it difficult to find the plot and relive exciting moments. So, we will try to break the episodes into smaller parts and divide them into different titles according to the stage to make it easier for everyone to locate the plot. This episode is not over yet, there will be more to come.
