Chapter 4726 X Royal Family: New Life (Part 5)
While the local Magneto isn't as old as those in most universes—he could be considered middle-aged—he's not this young. The Eric in front of him looks like a young man in his early twenties, with firm skin and well-defined muscles; he doesn't look old at all.
Sebastian was so startled he nearly dropped the documents he was holding. He asked cautiously, "You..."
“I don’t belong to your universe. But they entrusted me with all matters on Clarkia Island. Here’s a handwritten letter; would you like to see it?”
Sebastian took it and examined it. He wasn't worried about someone impersonating him, since the Clarke Totem could definitely distinguish the fake. He was just curious about where this young Magneto came from.
Logically speaking, even if one were to seek help from other universes, one should look for someone more experienced. What use could such a young person be? Sebastian harbored some contempt for him.
Upon opening it, he found it was indeed a handwritten letter, but it was full of nonsense and didn't explain where it came from. He had no choice but to find out for himself: "Are you from the same universe as those Avengers?"
Then, while asking, I prayed in my heart that it wasn't. The Avengers are already annoying enough; if a bunch of mutants from that universe come along, forget about interfering or not; the universe is yours.
Eric shook his head silently. He held out his hand to Sebastian, who looked blank. Eric sighed slightly, then moved his fingers, and all the documents in Sebastian's hand and in the filing cabinet behind him flew to him.
Sebastian watched in disbelief as Eric began to read. He was actually looking at the documents, one after another. Too shocked to believe it, Sebastian stood there watching Eric read, to make sure he was really looking and not just flipping through them or trying to destroy them.
Eric was indeed looking at it seriously, and even categorized the documents as he went. Sebastian felt like the sun had risen in the west.
Magneto genuinely has no knack for paperwork. This isn't entirely due to his personality; it's also related to his life experiences and education. Furthermore, he's particularly impatient with political and diplomatic paperwork. If he were even slightly better at these areas, the Brotherhood of Mutants wouldn't have fallen into such a state of universal condemnation.
It's practically an open secret. Even during the height of the conflict between the Brotherhood of Mutants and the X-Men, some of the Brotherhood's paperwork was still handled by the university. As for who handled it, that goes without saying.
Sebastian watched for a long time. He realized that Magneto didn't seem to be actually doing anything; he was just observing. This gave him some confidence, and he decided to test the waters.
He had just opened his mouth to ask a question when Eric turned to him and said, "I have a pretty good idea of the situation now. Let's go take a look at the docks."
Before Sebastian could react, he was gone. So Sebastian had no choice but to follow. However, he still had doubts in his heart; he wanted to see what kind of trouble this Magneto from another universe could cause.
As luck would have it, Stark was also at the dock. He was standing by the rocks below the cliff, gesturing something. Magneto flew over and landed, and Stark glanced back at him. Sebastian's heart leaped into his throat.
The Avengers and the Brotherhood of Mutants can definitely be considered enemies, and the Avengers and Magneto are also old rivals. Their relationship isn't very harmonious, so it's not surprising that Iron Man would turn around and shoot them.
To everyone's surprise, Stark turned around, glanced at him, then turned back and went about his business. Magneto watched him for a while before walking away; the two of them didn't exchange a single word.
Sebastian was a little confused, but he couldn't help asking, "What's wrong? You two..."
“He’s busy.” Eric glanced back at Sebastian. “Let’s go check out the dock that’s under construction.”
Actually, it's not far; you can see it once you cross this beach. It's a roughly oval-shaped bay with a sizable inland sea. And because it's currently in deep water, there aren't any shallow bays, so large ships can dock there.
There were quite a few mutants busy there. Some were using telekinesis to control the materials to fly upwards, while others were looking at blueprints and assembling the corresponding materials, which looked a bit like playing with Lego.
Magneto frowned at this. He landed on a distant cliff, not approaching. Sebastian asked, "Aren't you going to go take a look? The dock is almost finished."
"Have they always done this?"
Sebastian looked the construction site over from left to right, but couldn't see anything wrong, so he nodded and said, "Yes."
"That's utterly ridiculous."
Strangely, Magneto's tone wasn't particularly harsh, yet it sent a chill down Sebastian's spine. For some reason, this Magneto of this universe, though appearing young, possessed a formidable presence. His every word and action didn't resemble that of a leader of a mutant group, but rather that of a seasoned national leader.
Sebastian quickly banished this absurd thought from his mind. They hadn't even managed to establish a nation, yet this young man was truly capable?
Little did he know, his lack of experience in the fighting world was a disadvantage. Now, there's a consensus in the fighting world: these two old geezers are even more difficult to deal with when they're younger.
After all, people mature a bit in their later years and still have some sense of shame; when they're young, they're truly powerful and unrestrained. Not to mention those like Charles and Eric who are deliberately trying to appear young.
“Go and talk to them,” Eric ordered, as easily as breathing. “Get a draft right now.”
"Articles of association? Articles of association for what?"
“Of course we’re building a dock,” Eric said, looking at him like he was an idiot. “Or are we going to go fishing in the sea?”
“But the dock is almost finished,” Sebastian said, pointing there. “It’s almost all that’s left, just the stern.”
“Start from scratch,” Eric said.
Sebastian's eyes widened: "You mean we should change locations? Back to where Iron Man was?"
"Whether we move to a different location or not, this place won't work right now. Just go and tell them."
“But they’ll be very disappointed.” Sebastian wasn’t exactly a very empathetic person; he just didn’t want any more trouble. Everyone was already holding on, hoping to hear good news, and if things dragged on any longer…
“Do as I say.” Eric finally looked at him properly. That one look terrified Sebastian.
Logically speaking, Sebastian was a fairly strong mutant, and although he no longer had the support of Hellfire Clan, he shouldn't be in such a humble position. But these opportunists are masters of reading the room. With just one glance, Sebastian knew just how formidable this guy was, so he quickly went to deal with him.
He originally intended to make the announcement anyway, but unexpectedly, he saw another young Charles who had already become friends with the mutant workers.
This one was even more formidable, sending chills down Sebastian's spine. The sight of Charles's blue eyes made him want to run for his life. Even the Charles of this universe hadn't given him this feeling; for some reason, this one was simply terrifying.
But the other mutants clearly didn't have his seasoned intuition. They surrounded Charles, asking him which universe he came from, whether he was in college, or had just started working.
Charles responded with a smile, and because of his youth, his smile always carried a touch of naiveté. Combined with his face and blue eyes, he quickly gained the trust of all the mutants. After all, who hadn't admired the youthful charm of their two leaders?
However, Sebastian remembered his business. He took a deep breath and shouted, "Stop! Everyone stop!"
He opened his mouth, but seeing the mutants staring at him, he hesitated to speak. So he reluctantly approached Charles and said, "Your Magneto of the universe made me stop the dockworks and start all over again. Look..."
Charles didn't even glance at him, and simply waved his hand, saying, "Listen up, everyone. This period has been incredibly tough, with no fancy food and no good sleep. So I've decided to give everyone a break to recharge."
The crowd cheered immediately. Although they also wanted the dock to be completed, working non-stop like this was really exhausting. Several mutants, relying on their mutant abilities, hadn't slept for days, and even worked overtime during last night's stormy night.
Charles took another deep breath of the damp, cold sea air and said with a smile, "But before the holiday, there's something I need to tell you all. That is, the purpose of your universe's leader inviting us here is not to help Earth fight a war in the solar system. We are here to develop a standardized procedure for the mutant nation."
"What is a standardized process? Simply put, a country needs a system, and that system needs a standardized implementation process. Of course, this sounds a bit complicated, so let me give you an example."
"Take building the dock for example. Everyone was enthusiastic. Once they got the materials, they started building. It wasn't difficult for mutants. Although everyone was a bit tired, there weren't any technical problems. They just processed the materials and put them together."
"But everyone, think about this: what if we wanted to build a spaceship? Would this kind of 'just decide and do it' approach work? What if we wanted to build a planetary warship? I doubt even Magneto could just do it on a whim, right?"
"You have to understand that at this level of precision, there must be strict checks at every level, otherwise all the hard work invested will be wasted. And if things go wrong, an experimental accident could destroy an entire galaxy."
The mutants gasped. Sebastian looked at Polaris, a troublemaker who had just returned from her shift on the front lines and was probably seething with anger. Did she have no objections?
To everyone's surprise, Polaris sat there obediently cross-legged, nodding repeatedly. Sebastian was puzzled; even Magneto couldn't tame his rebellious daughter, so why did she become such a docile girl in front of this professor?
Many people shared his doubts, so they whispered to Polaris for help. Polaris waved his hand and said, "You don't know, this professor's universe is incredibly powerful. Mutants have conquered most of the universe, and they have planetary-level warships everywhere. Even the three great empires have to be mindful of their presence when they go out."
Sebastian, of course, heard it too, and stared wide-eyed at Charles. Charles said somewhat helplessly, "Miss, don't exaggerate like that. We only occupy one star system in the Andromeda Galaxy, which is more than half the universe. Most of those warships are also public property of Earth, not mutants."
As a result, the way others looked at him was even more shocked.
