Chapter 4721 X-Royal Clash (End)
Chapter 4721 X Royal Family: Fierce Battle (The End)
Upon hearing his words, everyone's expression tightened. But this was actually to be expected—everyone knew perfectly well the relationship between Professor X and Magneto.
"Can't he be resurrected?" Spider-Man said. "Didn't those mutants from the raiding team come back to life too?"
“No, Peter. Even if he could be resurrected, the pain of death would be unacceptable.” Iron Man looked at him and said, “However, I also agree that this matter may not be so easy to resolve. You know, Professor X is no pushover.”
“But they’re also trying to help mutants,” Spider-Man said, referring to the people in the central universe.
“They just left the mutants with no other choice,” Captain America said. “For Professor X, Magneto’s death was indeed hard to accept, and even if he were to be resurrected, he would definitely be angry. Not to mention the other casualties.”
“The key question is whether Professor X is truly willing to use these losses to elevate the status of mutants. I don’t think he is,” Hawkeye said. “While he may not be as mild-mannered as he appears, he is certainly responsible enough to his friends and students.”
“That’s the crux of the problem,” the Winter Soldier said, shaking his head. “Even if this can be resolved, mutants might be afraid of the central universe. After all, the process of resolving it is far too intense.”
“I actually think this is a good thing,” Black Widow said. “The main universe is a bit annoying, but is the central universe any better? If they really manage to solve this problem perfectly, then even more people will flock to the central universe.”
“Oh my god, please don’t.” Spider-Man spoke first. He knew the most about the central universe, and he said, “Anything involving Dr. Schiller is dangerous. I’m really afraid he’ll drag so many universes down with him into a black hole.”
“So it’s best for them to maintain a balance.” Thor gently patted the table. “The main universe has a natural advantage due to its special status, but it adheres to interventionism; the central universe, on the other hand, has risen to prominence because of its powerful strength, which allows it to counter interventionism. The two of them maintain a perfect balance, and the multiverse doesn’t have to worry about being destroyed.”
Everyone nodded, clearly agreeing with the viewpoint. It wouldn't be wise to side with either universe. The multiverse needs to recognize the flaws of the central universe's interventionism, while also seeing the dangers posed by the central universe. This way, a more balanced state can be maintained, rather than one universe dominating and dragging everyone down the wrong path.
"You're going to the Shi'ar Empire?!" Nick looked at Professor X in shock. "Although we're going to negotiate with the new emperor, we don't really need you..."
“Eric’s still there,” Professor X said. “I have to bring him back, at least. Besides, I want to know what Schiller is up to. I know he’s probably behind most of this, but why make such a fuss?”
“What do you mean?” Nick asked.
“He could easily make everyone else think it was all an accident, instead of making people suspect the central universe. You should know that even if the outcome is good, not everyone can accept this kind of tactic. It's like ruining their own reputation.”
“Perhaps they genuinely don’t want to interfere,” Nick said. “By lowering their own reputation, they can get fewer people to bother them, which makes sense, doesn’t it?”
Professor X sighed and said, "I just wonder where he got the confidence that I wouldn't blame him for killing Magneto. Even if he could be resurrected, I still..."
“Then go and see for yourself,” Nick relented. “It doesn’t matter if we can’t reach an agreement; the central universe won’t let Earth be destroyed.”
The planet Mighty Feather, which had just experienced a riot, remained desolate. When Professor X set foot on this land again, he felt that everything had changed. He had to admit that after having his own home, even places where he had lived for a long time felt unfamiliar.
Many things have happened here, things closely intertwined with the fate of mutants. Perhaps what's happening today is no different; Professor X has a feeling that Schiller has prepared a surprise for him.
"Professor, Professor!" a voice called from behind. Professor X turned around and was startled. The voice was clearly Cyclops Scott's, but instead, a large robot approached.
“Oh, sorry, Professor, did I scare you?” Cyclops said. “I’ve changed bodies, or rather, my consciousness is temporarily residing here. I’m not the enemy.”
“How could I not recognize you, Scott?” Professor X said gently. “It doesn’t matter to me what body you’re in, does it?”
Cyclops smiled and said, "I know you must be eager to see Mr. Lansher. He's inside. Come with me."
Professor X was somewhat taken aback by his form of address, saying, "I remember you only showed him basic respect, and that was based on me."
Cyclops shook his head and said, "He saved my life. I was about to give up inside the prototype. He was actually more suited to control the robot than I was, but he gave me the chance. Regardless of who he did it for, from now on, I'm afraid even basic respect won't be enough."
“Alright. Then don’t call him Mr. Lansher either; that’s not his real name, and it sounds incredibly fake,” Professor X said with a smile.
He entered the adjacent reception room, but did not see Magneto. A servant handed him something that looked very much like a flashing light, and Professor X immediately absorbed Magneto into his consciousness after taking it.
"Are you alright, Eric?" Professor X finally broke his long-held restraint and dropped his veneer of warmth after his routine inquiry. "You looked like a hero rushing into the sun, Mr. Eisenhardt. How did it feel to embrace the sun this way?"
“Charles, we’ll have to talk about this later.”
“Absolutely not.” Professor X’s tone turned cold. “Eric, you’d better understand that your consciousness is currently in my mental domain. If I don’t let you leave, you won’t leave. When I give you a physical body is up to me. If you’re so capable, then stay here and run away for the rest of your life. That way, we won’t have to worry about you going to embrace the sun anymore.”
“What I mean is, we can talk about our issues later.” Magneto’s voice still sounded a little guilty, but he was trying to get down to business. “Schiller has someone he’d like to introduce to you. Why don’t you go see him?”
Professor X looked slightly puzzled, but still focused his attention on reality. He looked up and saw that Schiller was indeed leading a figure towards him. Almost instantly, another mental storm swept across the skies above the planet Mengyu. Professor X's fingertips dug into his palm, and bright red blood flowed instantly.
“Gabriel,” Professor X uttered the name with some difficulty, “you…”
Vulcan stood there, calmly looking at Professor X, as if saying or doing nothing was enough to deliver the verdict.
Professor X looked at Cyclops with some panic and said, "Scott, let me explain. At the time... I was just worried you would break down, and I didn't mean to not save him..."
This was the first time Schiller had ever seen Professor X so panicked, even completely broken down. His brainwaves were almost tangible, and screams of agony came from outside the door. It was clear he was trying to control himself, but he couldn't; this could already be described as a mutant ability going out of control.
“Calm down, Charles,” Magneto’s voice echoed in his mind. “We’re here to communicate and solve problems, not to blame or judge anyone.”
Professor X still couldn't calm down. But Cyclops spoke up: "We already know what happened back then. Nobody wanted that disaster to happen. We also know that you would never have deliberately abandoned Gabriel without saving him. You probably erased my memories later for my own good. But it did cause Gabriel serious harm."
Schiller knew roughly what was going on; it was a dark chapter in Professor X's comic book history that couldn't be ignored, and one of the strong pieces of evidence that he wasn't very human.
In short, Gabriel was kidnapped as a child and grew up in the Shi'ar Empire. After returning to Earth for a while, he joined the X-Men and went on a mission. However, the mission encountered danger, and while everyone else was rescued, he was left behind.
Although he eventually escaped, he ended up in space instead of returning to Earth. Professor X believed he was dead and worried that Cyclops would be overwhelmed with guilt for not saving his brother, so he took it upon himself to erase Cyclops's memories of Gabriel.
This incident can be described as a series of mistakes coming together, ultimately leading to tragedy. Professor X made significant errors, but he didn't seem to have any malicious intent. If one had to categorize it, he placed high hopes on Cyclops, the eldest son of the X-Men, and therefore perhaps became a bit too controlling.
And even now, his guilt towards Cyclops is greater than his guilt towards Gabriel. Because if Gabriel were really dead, then everything he did could at least be explained by something like accepting the loss; but if he's not dead, then his act of erasing his memory has become a complete obstacle to the two brothers recognizing each other. He's terrified that Cyclops will blame him.
“Professor, I’ve never blamed you,” Cyclops said. “I know how devastated I would have been if you hadn’t adjusted my memories in that situation. I might never have been able to return to the X-Men, and that would have been irresponsible.”
“What we need to talk about now is not who was right or wrong back then. I don’t think you owe Gabriel anything. I want to make it up to him because I am his brother, and over the years, I have never fulfilled my responsibilities as an elder brother. This is entirely my personal matter, but my personal abilities are limited, so I am asking you for help.”
Professor X was incredulous; he was utterly shocked. But he realized Cyclops was telling the truth. Cyclops hadn't blamed him, nor was he trying to exploit his guilt to make amends to Gabriel. He had simply come to him for help, just as he had done with problems he couldn't solve before. That was the kind of person Cyclops Scott was.
Professor X's grip tightened. He didn't know how to describe his feelings. He was both relieved that Scott remained so kind and forgiving, and guilty about everything he had done to him.
After a long pause, Professor X asked softly:
What do you want?
"The entire Shia Empire."
