Chapter 4667 Desperate Escape (39)
Chapter 4667 A Desperate Escape (Thirty-Nine)
Harley pretended to rest against the wall, but actually wanted to listen for knocking sounds. Anatoly knocked, and she heard it immediately. Hearing movement next door, Harley typed a few words to determine the other person's intentions: "above," "hand," "ring," "attack," and so on.
Seeing that Harley was responding and understood, Anatoly dropped the pretense and launched into a long-winded explanation of his plan. He was banging away incredibly fast, with barely any interval between long and short taps, giving Harley a headache. Wait, this was too practiced—was he some kind of KGB agent?
Harley's typing speed was much slower, but she only needed to reply with something like "I understand." Anatoly's plan was also very well-developed, requiring almost no modifications; he could simply act when the time was right.
Meanwhile, inside the lantern, Greed is emphasizing the upcoming plot: "The fourth round is the moment when the traitor strikes. Is everyone ready?"
Everyone nodded confidently. They began the third round, but when the slips of paper with pictures were thrown down, many were dumbfounded: "I chose to move last round, why didn't I move?"
Players immediately realized that someone had changed their votes, but they dared not speak up for fear of being exposed, and could only pretend that it was their own choice. Fortunately, each team had a smart person who would explain even if someone expressed surprise.
Thor looked at the paper with the unchanged design and uttered a soft "Hmm?". Loki glanced at it, his eyes darting around before he said, "Looks like we both made the right decision. Staying home was the best option; isn't everything alright?"
Thor looked at him with surprise as he blatantly lied. They had clearly chosen to go out last round, so how did it become staying home? Someone had obviously changed their votes, right?
Loki winked at him, and Thor immediately understood. He didn't know what he understood, but since Loki wasn't surprised, he wasn't surprised either; everything was under control.
The third round, thanks to the agent's actions, still ended in Christmas Eve. Greed was puzzled: How come these people are so united? Could it be that the previous hints weren't enough? That shouldn't be the case.
They've clearly implied that a draw is impossible, so why are they all choosing to stay home? Are they all hoping others will go out and get eaten? Is it just laziness?
But it's already come to this point, and it's too late to sabotage things or pull off some underhanded tricks. After all, the storyline started unfolding in the fourth round. Greed could only sigh, wave his hand, and move on to the next round.
Upon discovering that someone had altered the tickets, everyone breathed a sigh of relief, so there was no need to change them in the fourth round. Everyone chose to stay home, and the agent went down to collect the tickets as usual. However, because he had heard from Greed that they would make their move in the fourth round, and since he hadn't read the script and didn't know what they were planning, he felt it would be better to give the players a hint. So, as he climbed up, he started knocking again.
"Make your move." The agent typed an ambiguous word. In any case, it implied that Greed was about to act, and it could also be a prompt for any players who wanted to act.
From a player's perspective, Anatoly interpreted it as the mole about to make a move. In a sense, the process was wrong, but the result was right, because the mole really was about to act.
In the fourth round, during the voting for choosing the rotation direction, everyone was writing on slips of paper when suddenly the lights went out.
Batman sprang to his feet, shoved Superman against the wall, and shielded him with his arm. Superman was startled, and before he knew it, a blaze of fire had erupted.
Suddenly, the lanterns above burst into flames, accompanied by shouts and screams. Some were cursing, others were yelling. Batman understood immediately; it seemed the mole had made his move.
This mole probably wanted to take advantage of the fact that the wealthy were focused on watching the players suffer, secretly cut off the power to the lights, push the wealthy out, and then open the door for the players, creating a reverse battle royale.
But for some reason, they were discovered, and the two sides started arguing, which accidentally caused a fire. Now the entire lantern is ablaze, and everyone can see the scene above clearly through the transparent ceiling.
Several figures were pushing and shoving each other when suddenly one figure fell down, first hitting the ceiling and then landing on the ground.
Another figure seemed to be trying to grab the control panel, but he had just pressed a switch when he was bumped aside by another person. Meanwhile, Loki and Thor heard a very faint click.
Loki reacted instantly. He walked up and pushed the door open.
Before he could stop him, Thor yelled and charged out, heading straight for the unfortunate masked man.
The others could only anxiously wait in the room, hoping the mole would quickly grab the control panel, open the doors, and let them all out. But just then, something unexpected happened.
The mechanical arm attached to the ring was suddenly pulled off one side, and then pulled into the room through a hole. The entire ring tilted to that side.
Because it was pulled so fast and hard, with such force and weight, when the ring flipped over, the other side was like a slap with tremendous power, slapping the edge of the lantern's ceiling with a loud bang.
The ceiling, along with the lantern walls, flew off with a "whoosh," leaving only a bare base, a bunch of various pieces of equipment, and a group of bewildered organizers.
As the upper part of the lantern flew off, two more people were knocked down and tumbled off the base, landing directly on the transparent ceiling of the cubicle. The remaining two people hurriedly ran towards the employee exit, only to find it blocked.
"Damn it, there's a mole!!!" Stark shouted.
Now everyone else could hear them, but they were all speechless. Seriously, after fighting for so long, they only just discovered there was a mole?
Little did they know that the lights going out and the fire were just part of the story, but the lanterns being blown away and the staff passage being locked were not!
The plot unfolds as follows: Halfway through the fourth round, press the button to turn off the lights, igniting the specially made lantern wall. This wall burns for a long time, serving both to create atmosphere and provide illumination. Then, push the clown dressed as the wealthy man out. Immediately afterward, the mole presses the button, releasing a random group to chase the clown.
Up to this point in the performance, everything seemed normal. However, Anatoly and Halle were prepared. Halle first grabbed Pamela, making her extend half of her forearm, which then grabbed the descending mechanical arm. The two of them couldn't actually pull it very far, but they could manage to lower the mechanical arm a little.
At this point, Anatoly was able to obtain it. He directly used iron bars and chains to bind the mechanical arm, grabbed the chains himself, and had Lucifer hug him. The two of them were very heavy and stronger than the two girls, and with that sudden downward pull, the disc directly lifted the lantern's lid.
However, because the lantern and the base weren't connected very tightly, they couldn't completely lift the lantern off the ground. Lifting the ceiling and walls presented a problem: they could still escape through the staff passageway on the ground.
Unfortunately, the detective was in the passageway at the time. Before he could climb back up, upon hearing that something had happened upstairs, he immediately barricaded the door from below, preventing any of the people upstairs from getting down.
Anatoli, who was observing the situation above, initially thought the plan was going to fail, or at least that they wouldn't be able to leave everything behind. Since the chassis hadn't been moved, the tunnel was still usable, at least enough for two vehicles. Unexpectedly, the tunnel was now impassable.
Loki, who had run out, looked back and, because they were wearing masks, it was easy to see that everything except the gun was still there. This meant that the gun that had been communicating with them in the passageway wasn't the mole who had acted upstairs. So, out of six people, at least two were moles, possibly even three. This wealthy man had really been walking the dark side too many times and had encountered a ghost.
At that moment, the wealthy man, who had been pinned down by Thor, kicked him away and ran towards the door. But when he turned back, he froze. Where was the lantern?! Where was that huge lantern?!
Seeing the two men fall, he cursed and turned to run. Thor, clearly keeping a close eye on him, yelled, "Don't run!!"
"What do we do now?" Stark shouted in a panic. "If they catch us, we're dead!!!"
"Don't panic." Greed was clearly flustered too. He waved his hand and said, "Only one group has come out now. Are we so many of us not enough to beat the two of them?"
The conclusion is that they simply can't beat him, or more accurately, they can't beat Thor alone. Although they are the level designers, they now have assigned roles and can't use superpowers. Of these people, only the Joker knows a set of fighting techniques that could rival Batman's; who else knows close-quarters combat?
Greed relies almost entirely on the Gray Fog in fights, Stark relies mainly on his symbiote armor, Scarecrow is a bio-magician, and Mephisto is even less of a threat—he hasn't fought in centuries.
And then look at Thor, the ultimate fighting master with over a thousand years of combat experience, who absolutely excels at close-quarters combat. His experience is so vast, if stacked up, it would be as tall as the World Tree. Who here could possibly be his match?
He faced five opponents single-handedly, showing no sign of panic. In his past fighting career, he had always been outnumbered. Whether or not he possessed supernatural powers, being surrounded by a dozen or so people was normal, and even being surrounded by twenty or more wasn't unbeatable. These five pushovers were easily dealt with by him.
But all five of them were busy attacking Thor, and no one paid any attention to Loki. Although Loki wasn't good at fighting, he was cunning enough. He first managed to climb to the top of the compartment, and then carefully walked along the collapsed ring to the raised side, successfully jumping onto the platform where the lantern had originally been.
He glanced around at the machines on the platform, unsure of their functions, and dared not press any buttons for fear of activating some torture device. He could only guess at the door opening button. After pressing it, Bruce heard a slight click.
He gently pushed the door and found it open. Bruce said, "Professor, don't go out yet."
Schiller looked at him, and Bruce said, "There's an employee access point inside this support column, and the door's up there. I'd like to try and see if I can get in."
"You want to go straight to the energy room?"
"That's right, but I might not take action now. I'm just going to take a look and find out the situation at the employee entrance. After that, things will be easier."
Schiller nodded. Bruce walked straight out. By this time, Loki had already jumped down to help his brother fight. Bruce jumped onto the ring and arrived at the platform. He didn't touch the machines, but instead opened the door to the passageway.
By this time, the agent had already left, so Bruce easily entered the passage and climbed down the ladder.
Stark, who was busy dodging Thor's punches, was terrified and shouted in the team chat: "He's gone into the staff entrance! Someone's gone into the staff entrance!! Stop him!!!"
The sound was a hundred times worse than if a mouse had gotten into the house; it was more like a cockroach getting into a straw. Greed, however, had a sudden realization: the passage was open! Now was the time to run!
He turned and ran, but what appeared in front of Stark behind him was a fist the size of a sandbag.
"boom!"
