Chapter 4037 MU: The Superbody Incident (117)
The moment Constantine saw his face, his pupils contracted sharply. The man, however, seemed not to see him at all, casually descending the steps with his hat in one hand, and asked the white-bearded old man before him, "Are you a collector?"
"Yes...yes." Although it was clear that the person was just an ordinary human, in theory, an ordinary human should not be able to appear here, so his tone lacked any confidence.
"Then you must be Constantine?" The man turned to look at Constantine again.
Constantine made no move, neither nodding nor answering.
Then he saw the man take an identification card out of his pocket and hand it to the collector, saying, "Greetings from Mr. Thanos, the Executive Director of the Interstellar Security Council. Mr. Thanos would like to know more details about this horrific heist of the collection. Would it be convenient for you to come with me?"
“Thanos? You mean that Titan? He…” The collector hesitated.
“I didn’t expect you to be a racist. But he meant no harm; he just wanted to know more details about the case. The Security Committee doesn’t have any coercive measures in place, so if it’s inconvenient now, you can come anytime later.”
After saying that, the other party took out another business card and handed it to the collector. The collector touched the emblem of the Interstellar Council on it and then said, "Alright, I really do need to have a word with them. I haven't offended them, so why do they have to come and steal my treasure?"
After saying that, he left through a vortex portal. Only the two of them remained in the room.
"Batman told me to tell you not to chase after Doctor Strange; he's probably gone mad. Now hurry back; he's waiting for your meeting."
Constantine squinted at him, especially at his face. He felt a mixture of confusion and wariness. Could someone who shared the same face as the Lord of Hell be a good person?
Constantine nodded and turned around. But the next second, a blood-red circle of light suddenly appeared beneath his feet, and three long spikes shot towards his opponent.
The man simply took a step back, subtly dodging the attack, while inwardly sighing. None of Batman's missions were ever simple; this guy had clearly gone mad.
The visitor was an agent. After learning that Doctor Strange had gone mad in space, Batman had asked the agent to investigate.
However, Schiller always insisted on having a legitimate reason for his actions. An investigation was permissible, but to conduct it haphazardly, just like Doctor Strange, wouldn't that be like running around aimlessly?
So, he went to the Interstellar Security Committee first. Schiller had reviewed the organization's files while working at the Time Management Bureau. Later, when Batman recruited Thanos, he also revealed information about this organization. In short, it's essentially the Interstellar Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Schiller met the infamous Thanos in the Chief Executive's office. Surprisingly, Thanos seemed quite refined and courteous, not at all like a cosmic-destroying villain. Upon hearing Schiller's purpose, Thanos was very amiable, granting him not only the authority and credentials to investigate agents but also providing him with a set of field agent equipment.
Although he knew that Thanos was only trying to curry favor with Batman, Schiller still felt that this Thanos was more in line with his image of a cosmic overlord than the one in the main universe.
He had also reviewed Thanos's information at the Time Bureau. This guy was considered an omen of misfortune from birth, and apparently he wiped out his entire race; his reputation wasn't good. But even so, he still managed to rise to a high position in interstellar society, proving his formidable strength. This kind of person is far more difficult to deal with than a mere brute wielding a sword.
Just like the Marvel superheroes now, even though they know that Batman brought back Thanos's Dark Quadrant and that Thanos has made many moves, revealing his ambitions, they still don't have a good solution. After all, he hasn't actually done anything, and he's still a high-ranking official in the Interstellar Alliance with powerful departments under his command. Without control over the vitals, they can't easily break off relations.
Thanos provided Schiller with a small spaceship specially equipped by the Security Committee, a Skrull Empire standard laser pistol, a high-energy laser hand cannon, a pair of multi-functional portable goggles, standard space life support equipment, a multi-functional shield generator, and even gave him a considerable amount of Universal Currency.
Schiller arrived at Cygnus without any obstacles in his small spaceship painted with the Safety Committee's livery. He then used his personal shield to break through the high-temperature blockade and arrived at the collector's museum.
Although the superheroes were locked in a fierce battle, and the two great empires were at the gates, the universe is vast, and most regions remained peaceful. As long as order hadn't collapsed, a police uniform was still very useful. Every teleportation station and obstacle Schiller encountered treated him with great courtesy. This also indirectly proves that Thanos was indeed quite good at being the director of the Universal Federal Bureau of Investigation.
As for persuading Constantine to go back, it wasn't a task given by Batman; it was simply that Schiller didn't want him getting involved in trouble. Although this guy looked a bit different from the average Constantine, he was still Constantine—how much better could he be?
“I suggest you think this through, Mr. Constantine. Attacking a police officer is not a good habit,” Schiller said, shaking his head and looking at Constantine.
"I have nothing to say to the devil."
No sooner had Constantine finished speaking than he pulled the flaming holy lance from the box. The instant the muzzle was pointed at Schiller, Schiller sneered, and in the next second, he swiftly drew his gun, dodging the first shot with a roll, while a laser beam hurtled towards Constantine's chest.
Constantine used his shield to take the first hit, then rolled behind the collapsed bookshelf and fired another shot at the ground in front of Schiller, igniting the papers on the ground. Flames erupted, and Schiller used a laser to slice through Constantine's cover, firing two more shots to force him into a corner.
Constantine touched the ground with his hand, and instantly, crimson light surged. He took a deep breath, and countless monsters leaped from the pool of blood.
Schiller, hiding behind cover, narrowed his eyes. He put away his pistol, took out his hand cannon, and fired a shot that scattered one monster, then fired another, severing the rope holding the chandelier overhead. With a crash, the huge chandelier fell, landing right beside Constantine.
Constantine dodged with a lunge, followed by two more long spikes. Schiller dodged again, switched his hand cannon to charge mode, and the muzzle flashed brighter and brighter.
Constantine, who was hiding with his back turned, took a deep breath. Mephisto had taken his last vial of medicine; without the power of demonic flesh, he could no longer summon any more flesh monsters.
His chest started to ache again, but he kept a straight face and said, "Is it because you don't want to play the role of someone else?"
With a loud bang, the hand cannon shell was fired. The expected excruciating pain did not come; instead, a figure stood in front of Constantine.
All the bookshelves and clutter were blasted away, but the figure remained standing. The impeccably tailored suit was spotless, and even the horns on his head still gleamed.
Schiller turned around and was stunned by the other person's appearance.
He emerged from the bunker carrying a hand cannon.
"you……"
Schiller was momentarily speechless. He opened his mouth and then closed it again, then opened it again, but hesitated for a moment and said nothing.
"So it was you who did this." After a long pause, he said, "I was wondering why Doctor Strange suddenly went crazy, and why Batman suddenly called me to tell me to be careful of Constantine. Don't you find this interesting?"
Mephisto stepped forward, nodded and smiled at Schiller: "Of course it's interesting. Why not?"
Schiller raised his hand cannon, aiming it at his chest, and the charged beam shone brightly. The other man didn't move, snapped his fingers, and the beam instantly went out.
“You know these things are useless to me,” he said.
Schiller also stepped forward, carrying his hand cannon. The two were now very close, almost face to face.
"Yes, I know. 'The devil calls you devil,' huh?"
The moment Mephisto nodded and smiled, Schiller swung his hand cannon at him.
"Bang!"
Constantine, peeking out from behind the cabinet, was dumbfounded. What happened? I hit myself?!
Mephisto turned into a cloud of black ash, drifting through the empty room, spiraling upwards until it disappeared into the equally dark dome, leaving only its echoes.
"Your only destination is hell. Come... come..."
Constantine crawled out from behind the bunker and suddenly noticed some shiny fragments on the ground. He rushed over and picked them up, only to find that they were broken pieces of a corner.
Constantine immediately put the thing back in the box, and when he looked up, he found Schiller looking at him with a very strange expression.
“Don’t look at me like that.” Constantine loosened his tie and raised his head slightly. “I haven’t even asked you what’s going on yet. Why do you look exactly like him?”
“We’re one person, of course we look alike,” Schiller said, rolling his eyes. He walked toward the door, Constantine following behind him.
"What do you mean by 'we are one person'? Is he your master? Or a past life? A contractor?"
“He is my creator.” Schiller pushed open the door and walked out, turning into the corridor and arriving at the elevator.
Constantine nodded and said, "I see, it's the same old Agent trick, right? Are you going to see Doctor Strange? I'm going too, how about a ride?"
The two got into the elevator together, and Schiller tilted his head to sized up Constantine. This guy was different from the ordinary Constantine; he wasn't as averse to magic, and more importantly, he knew how to use a gun, and was quite good at it.
"Do as you please," Schiller said.
Constantine smiled, pursing his lips, and saw Schiller's heavily painted police ship parked on the ground.
"Space police? Interesting."
Schiller walked into the cockpit, took off his coat, put his equipment aside, and said, "If this is your first time on a spaceship, then go sit down, fasten your seatbelt, put on your headset, and we'll be at our destination soon."
Constantine also took off his trench coat, tossed it aside, sat down in the chair, fastened his seatbelt, looked back, and asked, "Do you know where he is?"
“I didn’t know at first, but after seeing that guy, I can probably guess.” Schiller looked down and adjusted the navigation system. The instrument system displayed the name of the destination—“Saka”.
