Chapter 3683: The Mercury Age (III)
"Bad news, guys."
A message appeared on the group chat page of "Single Lives Long". The red and purple hair color in the speaker's head portrait revealed the identity of this lady.
"Bucky is going to chase me."
Schiller, who had just seen the group chat, widened his eyes and quickly typed a series of exclamation marks. He typed quickly: "Our group chat was just established yesterday, and you are planning to end your single life today? You damn traitor!"
"Listen, he's the one who wants to pursue me, and I haven't agreed yet."
"What's going on with you two?" another person sent a message. Schiller clicked on the header and saw - Agent Hill of S.H.I.E.L.D.
"There's nothing going on between us." Natasha typed very quickly, and within a few seconds a string of text appeared on the screen:
"We knew each other a long time ago, longer than you think. I even knew him before I knew Captain America, and then we developed some feelings beyond friendship. But then the organization found out - he was put in solitary confinement, and I was transferred out. That's it."
"You call this nothing??!" Schiller typed another series of question marks and exclamation marks.
"But he had no memory at that time!!!" Natasha also sent a series of exclamation marks, "He was not himself at that time! He was the brainwashed Winter Soldier! He has recovered his memory now."
"Does he remember that relationship?"
"I don't know, so I said it's bad news." Natasha's words revealed despair, "I don't know if he suddenly remembered it or what. Or maybe Bucky has fallen in love with me again... But I think that's unlikely. He's not the kind of person who would fall in love with Black Widow. And we've interacted a lot since he came back. If he wanted to pursue me, he would have done it a long time ago. So I'm more inclined to believe that he remembered it."
"Why did he suddenly remember this?" Another profile picture appeared, and Schiller clicked it and saw that it was Nick. He couldn't help but sigh that Natasha was really brave, and dared to bring her boss into this kind of life group.
"How should I know?!" Natasha made a frantic expression. "The key issue now is that I wasn't completely myself when I was dating him. I was too young at the time, and was still immersed in some embarrassing fantasies when I think about them now. I really can't accept that my dark history that no one knows about suddenly appeared in the mind of an acquaintance! In the past, I would have flown to Hawaii immediately, but Steve's birthday is coming soon, and I can't leave."
"You're done." Schiller typed lightly, "Steve and Bucky are best buddies, they will help him. Maybe he will come to you and ask you indirectly soon."
"Can I pretend to have amnesia? Or Alzheimer's or something? I'm 90 years old, isn't that too much?"
"Absolutely not," Nick replied. "Captain America is older than you, and he hasn't even developed Alzheimer's yet. And if you develop a mental illness, we'll send you to Schiller's sanatorium - at your own expense!"
Natasha sent a horrified emoji. Schiller thought for a moment and continued typing: "How do you know he wants to pursue you? Did he tell you?"
"He told Coulson!" Natasha's panic could be seen from the speed at which she sent the message. "He actually asked Coulson if I would come to Steve's birthday party. My God, is this a question a normal sapien would ask?"
"And then?" Hill seemed very interested in this as well.
"He asked Coulson indirectly about my views on marriage and love. You know what Coulson would say - 'She wants all men in the world to die.'"
Laughing emojis began to appear in the group. Schiller couldn't help laughing, and it was finally his turn to laugh wildly.
"And what did Bucky say?" Nick obviously didn't care at all that his top general was slacking off and chatting at work - or he could understand Natasha slacking off in this situation.
"He said he didn't care, he wanted to give it a try."
"No mention of the past?"
"No. But I think you can sense that he is trying to hide it. He may regard it as a big secret."
"And then you revealed it all in a few words."
"I completely understand that his past is a heavy trauma for him. But I'm not like that! I wasn't captured by them. I volunteered."
"It's over," Hill said. "He must think that you two are supporting each other and relying on each other in painful adversity. But what is the reality?"
"Actually, I just thought he was handsome!!!" Schiller heard Natasha's roar through the text, "We have been training in a closed environment for so long, it's normal to be attracted to each other's hormones, right?!!"
"Did you really love him?" Nick asked.
"It's hard for me to say." Natasha was silent for a long time before replying, "At least now, I prefer my single life to him."
"Then we need to figure out how to stop him from thinking you two are still together," Nick said. "I think the key is Steve."
"I agree."
"I agree."
"I agree."
"I think this is probably what happened," Schiller continued in the group chat. "Steve is a very kind person with a strong sense of empathy. He wants everyone to live a happy life, especially his best friends. He obviously enjoyed the sweetness of marriage after marrying Carter, and he was even more satisfied after little Rogers was born. He also wanted his best friend to experience this happiness - he may have just suggested that he start a new relationship, but Bucky happened to mention his past with Natasha, and then Steve suggested that he give it a try."
"I think that's very likely the case," Nick said. "Even if he was brainwashed back then, it was still a bold decision to fall in love with Black Widow under the organization's nose. His courage is not only reflected in this one thing - if he decides to do it, he will not give up easily."
"That has nothing to do with us," Schiller said, "unless he wants to force Natasha to do something, but that's not something he can do with courage."
"Are you just giving up on me?" Natasha asked in disbelief.
"He just asked Coulson about it, but he didn't really do anything about it," Hill replied. "It might not even be true - Coulson was so busy preparing for Steve's birthday party that he might just have had a dream."
"I hope so," said Natasha.
“Oh, no, wait,” Schiller replied in the group chat, “I got Bucky’s psychological evaluation report. Okay, Coulson shouldn’t be dreaming.”
"What do you mean?"
"The evaluation was very positive. He seems to have completely moved on from his past and is ready to move on to a new relationship."
"God!" Natasha sent a coma emoji, "Did he talk about his past?"
"You see, when he gets rid of the shadow of the past and can face his past, the memory of those days of brainwashing will definitely be recalled. He must have seen you there - and you who appeared in his memory still have an attraction to him."
"I don't even remember what I looked like at that time." Natasha replied quickly, "We went to Minsk for a mission at that time, in late autumn and early winter. I only remember that the wind was very strong, all the leaves had fallen, and the ridge in the distance looked like an old dragon. He stood in front of me in a light gray windbreaker, like a battle-hardened Mauser pistol..."
"It's a pity that you don't write romance novels, ma'am. Do you want me to contact a director to make your love story into a movie?"
"We're going to get a bad rating because it wasn't that pleasant - we almost killed each other."
"Wow."
"Wow."
"Wow."
"What on earth are you surprised about? He's a brainwashed super soldier, and I'm an evil biochemical human. Do you expect us to have a pure and beautiful love story?"
"I really want to contact the director," Schiller said.
He wanted to continue watching the group chat, but there was a knock on the door. It was Bucky who opened the door. Schiller smiled at him and said, "Please sit down."
"It seems that my assessment results are good?" Bucky also laughed.
"Of course." Schiller glanced at the computer screen. "In fact, it's quite good, second only to Steve. Considering that he has such a wonderful family and you are still single, it's pretty good."
"Yes, I do feel much better recently. By the way, doctor, Steve's birthday is coming up soon. Have you thought about what birthday present to give him? This birthday is very important, so it's best not to give him duplicate gifts."
"I've been thinking about that, too," Schiller said truthfully. "Steve seems to be nice to everyone, but because he's so nice, he's happy with whatever people give him. We don't know what he really likes. It would be great if you could provide some inspiration."
"I'm going to give him a set of painting tools," Bucky said. "He was born a painter and has never given up his hobby of painting. A set of exquisite painting tools will definitely help."
"Oh my god, why didn't I think of that." Although Schiller said this, he had actually thought of it a long time ago - even if we don't talk about Captain America's past experiences, Steve often draws in the Avengers' base, and everyone has seen it. He didn't choose to give this gift because he was afraid that it would be the same as others.
“I also know what Eddie is going to give them,” Bucky said. “He’s going to take a family photo of the three of them. He’s a very good photographer, and Steve will like it.”
"This is his professional skill, we can't compare with it." Schiller said, leaning on the handrail at one side, "Peter said last night that he and Gwen would give him a treadmill. They both have the habit of jogging in the morning, so when the weather is bad, they can exercise at home."
“That’s very thoughtful too.” Bucky nodded. “Steve would love that.”
"That's why I have a headache - you have given out all the thoughtful gifts, what should we do?" Schiller sighed. "Although I would like to use my professional skills to provide them with free psychological consultation, I guess Steve would worry about the authenticity of 'free of charge'. Besides, that means they may have mental problems, which is not auspicious."
"What's Tony going to give?" Bucky asked.
"I don't know." Schiller shook his head. "I guarantee he has a bigger headache than I do. I just need to send him one that doesn't go wrong, but he has to be outstanding, and it would be best if he could beat all of you."
"Well, that's what he is. Oh, one more thing, Doc. Do you think I'm mentally healthy enough to start a new relationship?"
"Are you planning to have a psychological consultation today? I happen to be free today. Wait a minute, I'll go get the recorder so that I can review and study it later. Don't worry, the recordings will be kept confidential and I will never reveal them to anyone."
Bucky nodded. On his way to get the recorder, Schiller sent a message to the group chat on his phone: "I didn't expect the security in Manhattan to be so bad. My radio that records patient conversations was stolen yesterday. I'm even considering buying a safe."
That night, a beautiful fiery red shadow passed over the sky of New York, swung down from the roof of the sanatorium, rolled neatly, and landed silently in Schiller's office.
A light comedy about daily life, great!
