Chapter 3167: Detective is about to die (XVIII)
"Do you believe what he said?" Schiller closed the door and looked at Greedy who was walking in front of him.
Greed shook his head and said, "He doesn't look like a good guy, but are we good guys?"
The blood on Schiller's body was almost dried, but the smell of blood had not diminished at all. Fortunately, the priest's clothes were black, so it was not too obvious.
"Want to go to the third floor?" Schiller asked.
"There must be something on the third floor." Greedy stood at the top of the stairs and looked up, then said, "How are you doing?"
"I'm fine." Schiller shook his head and said, he was indeed fine. Except that his mental and health values were still not very high, his blood volume did not drop much, and his physical strength was still good, so he could fight another battle.
Moreover, his soul-soothing skill is now cooled down, and his mental health can be restored instantly. Even if there is any mental attack, it will not be a big problem.
Greedy said as he walked up the stairs, "Do you feel like this is getting more dangerous?"
Schiller understood the implication of his words. After Pride left, the difficulty of the game suddenly increased from the novice tutorial to a higher level. Whether it was the strange underground river, the wildly growing reeds in the underground cave, the five mad dogs in the lobby on the first floor, or even the man named Jeff, they were all very dangerous.
If they dared to fish in that dark river, at least one or two people would be killed. If they were a step slower when the reeds attacked, it would not be a problem that Batman could solve with just a serious injury.
Those five dogs are even more outrageous. Schiller can say that all of his teammates who are still standing may not be able to escape unscathed if anyone else comes out.
The man named Jeff seemed to be a coward, but he was obviously not as simple as he seemed. His leg was indeed bitten by a dog, but if he was also facing five dogs at the same time and was only bitten once and was still able to run to the second floor, it proved that he was definitely quite capable.
As for the third floor... Schiller looked at the obviously dimly lit corridor and felt that things had taken a dangerous turn.
The structure of the third floor is somewhat different from that of the second floor. It is not a circular patio surrounded by rooms, but a straight passage extending from one side of the patio with a window at the end of the passage.
After arriving here, they didn't hear any movement. Greedy and Schiller walked forward one after the other. As soon as they stepped into the passage, they heard a "clang".
It seemed like something metal had fallen to the ground.
Greed also vaguely saw something fall under the window in front.
Schiller used his spiritual vision to scan the surrounding area, but he didn't see anything. Greedy was still as brave as before. He strode over, but stopped when he reached out to pick up the thing on the ground.
"What is it?" Schiller also walked over quickly and asked.
Greed stood up with the thing in his hand, and without turning around, he handed it over his shoulder to Schiller behind him.
Schiller felt a chill on his fingertips, and in the dim light from the window, he saw that it was a houseplate with "1913" written on it.
Greed turned around and looked at Schiller, but neither of them said anything. Schiller turned and looked at the door next to him, but did not see a place on the door to nail a doorplate.
This doorplate seemed to have fallen out of thin air.
Greedy took the doorplate back. Schiller stood by the window. He could feel that Greedy was a little impatient. This guy was not a detective. It was unrealistic to expect him to guess the riddle.
Sure enough, Greedy picked up the shotgun next to him and kicked open the door on the left. There was nothing inside the door. Greedy lowered the muzzle of the shotgun, and the reflection of the metal rod of the shotgun illuminated a trap on the ground.
The trap was open, obviously placed there on purpose by someone. If the light was not good, one would surely end up with one's legs broken if one rushed in rashly.
Schiller came to the second room and kicked the door with his gun raised. There was nothing in the second room either, but this was not good news.
If the leader of this game is still the Transcendent, there will be fighting. The strange silence now proves that the arranger of the game may have another style.
Sure enough, there was a knock on the door from behind Greedy.
Greed turned around and looked at the door where the sound came from. He walked forward cautiously with his shotgun in hand, but when he reached the door, he kicked it open without hesitation.
This is actually a warehouse.
However, unlike the small warehouse downstairs where vegetables were stored, the things stored here were much more complete. Greedy saw the two first aid kits on the shelf at a glance, and his eyes suddenly lit up.
He gave Schiller a look, and Schiller came up behind him with the knife in his hand. Just as Greed was about to take a step forward, Schiller coughed.
Greedy looked back at him, then followed his line of sight to the ground, and saw a very, very thin fishing line not far in front of his feet, almost invisible to the naked eye.
Schiller looked to the side along the fishing line and found that there seemed to be a hole in the wall below the shelf on the right.
Another trap? Who set up so many traps here?
Greed crossed the fishing line and got two first aid kits. Schiller at the door seemed helpless. The mysterious tricks could deal with most people, but Greed was not among these most people. Apart from the benefits he got, his eyes were empty.
Greed first threw the two first aid kits out the door, found an empty canvas bag under the shelf, and then began to pick and choose between the shelves like he was shopping in a supermarket.
This warehouse had about a dozen rows of shelves. Schiller did not go deeper into it, but Greedy was not afraid at all. He even threw the gun directly to Schiller so that he could free his hands to take things.
He checked the goods on the shelf one by one, even comparing their production dates, picking up and throwing away one by one, and soon the canvas bag was almost full.
Suddenly, a "rolling" sound came from behind. Greedy, who was holding a can, turned around and saw a can rolling past him.
Greedy ignored it and continued to look at the words on the can. After a while, the sound was heard again. Greedy didn't even turn his head, squatted under the shelf, and reached out to grab the bag of flour inside.
He felt something dripping on his arm, but still managed to drag the flour out, and then began to look at the production date of the flour.
Suddenly he felt a gust of wind blowing, but he remembered that all the windows in the room were closed. He turned around and saw that the window at the end of the row of shelves where he was was open.
A black crow landed on the windowsill.
Greedy looked at the crow, and the crow looked at Greedy. Suddenly, the crow rushed over from the windowsill like an arrow.
Greedy felt a gust of wind passing by his ears, and with a scream, a bright kitchen knife hit the crow's head. Greedy turned around and saw Schiller.
Schiller walked over and checked the crow. He turned the fallen crow over and saw the dense tumors on its abdomen. He knew that this was a monster that had been mutated by some strange influence.
He remembered what Madeline had written in her notes. Unless absolutely necessary, monsters usually wouldn't possess weak animals, such as insects and small birds. Although crows were considered birds of prey, they were not very powerful.
However, animals within the range of the strange events may be affected by the monsters. Even if they are not possessed, they will have great malice towards humans like the monsters and will try every means to attack humans.
But when Schiller looked away, the tumor disappeared and it turned out to be an ordinary crow, with blood flowing onto his hand.
In the blink of an eye, greed disappeared.
The bag he had been carrying fell to the ground, and the contents rolled out. Schiller reached for the handle of the bag to turn it over, but saw a greedy head inside.
In another blink of an eye, the head disappeared. Schiller reached out and took out the can inside. Then he saw the smiling spokesperson on the can wink at him, and the head suddenly rolled down.
Schiller stood there, holding the can, turned his head and saw Greedy's back walking out of the room through the gap in the shelf, and suddenly heard a scream in the next room.
He turned the cans in his hand over and began to study the ingredient lists and production dates.
He heard rapid breathing in his ears, and it was difficult to determine the direction. Schiller looked up at the window again. The light shone on his face and a shadow fell behind him.
He turned 180 degrees, completely facing away from the window, where Greed should have been, but now there was nothing.
Schiller began to have clairvoyance.
In an instant, he saw the handle of the flying canvas bag was wrapped around Greedy's neck, and it pulled Greedy into the air in front of him, making him struggle and gasp like a hanged man.
Schiller turned back again.
He threw away the can and picked up the crow. There was nothing abnormal about the crow, and there was no tumor on its stomach, but Schiller still held the crow's body in one hand and raised a kitchen knife in the other.
With a "whoosh" of the knife, blood flowed from his palm. He turned around and found that Greed was looking at him with surprise. There was no crow on his hand at all. The tip of the knife hit his palm and blood was dripping to the ground.
Schiller took back the knife and looked at his bleeding palm. Then he looked at Greed and said, "The rule of the illusion is that you must pay a price. You'd better not be so stingy."
"Are you experiencing an illusion?" Greedy asked.
Schiller nodded and looked at the crow's body that was still at his feet and had not been picked up. He was not sure whether it was because he touched the animal's body or killed it.
Suddenly, Greed was also startled. Schiller thought he might have fallen into an illusion. Two seconds later, he returned to normal and said with a complicated look: "Do you know what I saw?"
"what?"
"In my hallucination, there is a monster on your body."
Schiller was not surprised. He said, "The Prowler? What does he look like?"
Greed shook his head and said, "The point is, if the illusion allows us to see the monster in each other, whether it is real or not, we have a reason to attack each other."
"Hunters aren't that stupid," Schiller said.
"But the hunter was seriously injured." Greedy picked up the bag and said, "Whether it's the painter, the lawyer or the doctor, they all have sufficient reasons to kill him. The monster is just an excuse for them to do it."
Schiller understood what he meant. In the entire team, Batman from the main universe was the only truly good guy. The others, whether Bruce, Night Owl, or the two Jokers, were not trustworthy.
There is also a Prowler who is possessed by someone unknown, and the opportunity to kill the Batman of the main universe is imminent.
"I'm more inclined to believe that the illusion will cause the already powerless hunter to act irrationally." Greedy and Schiller said as they walked out, "After all, he has never seen this move before, so maybe he is not prepared?"
Schiller shook his head. Batman was not that fragile. More importantly, each of them had secrets.
