Chapter 1141 He Yuzhu finally gets his revenge
He paused, swallowed, and added fuel to the fire: "And there's Master Yi Zhonghai from Workshop One, you know him, right? He's a genuine Grade 8 fitter in our factory, one of the best in the factory, and he even won a national award back in the day! Now look what's happened, he's been demoted to Grade 5, and his salary has been cut off by a lot. Behind all this, it's all Gu Nan's doing, instigating the leaders to find fault with Master Yi!"
Zhu Tao slightly raised his eyelids, his gaze lingering on He Yuzhu's face for a moment. His expression remained unchanged, and he simply nodded, his tone revealing neither joy nor anger: "Oh, is that so? Okay, I'll have someone investigate everything you've said."
But in his mind, he was quickly calculating—he had heard the name Gu Nan a few times before he came; he was said to be a skilled and hardworking young man who was currently making waves in the workshop. Hearing He Yuzhu say this made him pay more attention to Gu Nan, hoping to get some useful information out of him to report to his superiors.
When He Yuzhu saw that he had agreed, he was overjoyed. His face crinkled into a smile, and he hurriedly nodded and bowed, saying, "That's great! Thank you for your insightful observation, Director Zhu! Director, if there's nothing else, I'll head back now so as not to delay your work."
As he spoke, his eyes darted around, and he leaned closer, asking in a somewhat ingratiating tone, "By the way, what would you like to eat for lunch? The cafeteria's food is so-so today, so I'd like to prepare something fresh for you in advance, something I'm sure you'll enjoy."
Zhu Tao was planning to use lunchtime to sort out the information he had gathered that morning and, incidentally, to probe He Yuzhu's background—to have stayed in the factory for so long and dare to tattle on others, this guy probably had more than just this much information. Upon hearing this, he followed up, saying, "Zhuzi, I've long heard that your cooking skills are unparalleled in the factory; many veteran employees have praised you to me. No need to trouble the canteen for lunch; just prepare a few of your signature dishes and bring them directly to my office. I won't go over there."
"Okay, sure! Don't worry, I guarantee it will be delicious and visually appealing!" He Yuzhu smiled so broadly that his eyes disappeared, his face all scrunched up. He nodded quickly and turned to leave.
He felt much more confident now—even the new factory director, Zhu, was giving him face and specifically asked him to cook. Wasn't that proof that he had powerful backing? He walked with an air of arrogance, his shoulders held high, his feet moving as if he were on fire, as if he wanted to jog through the workshop and show everyone that no one dared to mess with him, He Yuzhu, now!
Just as I reached the workshop entrance, I bumped into Zhong Yi, who was walking towards me. Zhong Yi was the head of the kitchen, in his thirties, with a serious expression on his face. He was extremely intolerant of any wrongdoing and always abhorred any behavior of slacking off or cheating during work hours.
Seeing He Yuzhu's smug expression, a lingering smile on his lips, and his eagerness to rush out of the kitchen more than an hour before lunchtime, he was instantly enraged. He stepped forward and blocked his way, frowning as he questioned, "He Yuzhu, this is working time! Why aren't you preparing food and cleaning in the kitchen? What are you doing out here? There are only a few people in the kitchen. If you run off, you'll delay the factory's mealtime, and the workers won't get a hot meal. Can you take responsibility for that?"
The kitchen of the steel rolling mill was always filled with fumes and steam, as noisy as a boiling pot. He Yuzhu had just put a steamer basket of steamed buns on the steamer rack when Zhong Yi blocked the stove, clutching an attendance book in his hand, his brows furrowed like a knotted rope.
"He Yuzhu, where are you going?" Zhong Yi's voice was filled with anger. "You're rushing out as soon as you start work? Don't you have any sense of propriety?"
He Yuzhu slammed the spatula down on the stove with a clang, splattering oil and scalding him, causing him to dodge aside. He turned and glared at Zhong Yi, the veins on his neck throbbing, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on: "What business is it of yours where I go? Director Zhu personally ordered me to go to his office to show off my skills and cook a few of my signature dishes! This is official business!"
He emphasized the words "Director Zhu" with a heavy accent, puffing out his chest and raising his chin slightly. His peripheral vision swept over the coworkers peering around—Old Li was adding firewood to the stove, and Old Wang was squatting on the ground picking vegetables; both stopped what they were doing upon hearing this, their eyes filled with envy. He Yuzhu's smugness intensified, and his voice rose another eight octaves: "The factory director called, and you, a mere kitchen supervisor, think you can stop him?"
After saying that, he deliberately walked around Zhong Yi, his rubber shoes making a "thump-thump" sound on the greasy cement floor, as if he were banging drums to announce his dignity. Zhong Yi was left standing there, so angry that his face turned red. He pointed at Zhong Yi's back, unable to utter a word for a long time. His chest heaved like a bellows, and beads of sweat streamed down his cheeks.
He Yuzhu hadn't taken two steps when he suddenly turned back, a mocking smile playing on his lips: "Director Zhong, I didn't slack off. It was Factory Director Zhu who needed to see me about something important. If I delayed the factory director's business, can you take responsibility for that?"
In the past, he would have to give Zhong Yi some leeway, but things are different now—the new factory director called him out by name as soon as he took office, which is a huge honor! From now on, who in the factory would dare to mess with him?
Zhong Yi was so speechless he almost fainted. He never expected that He Yuzhu had managed to ingratiate himself with the new factory director, Zhu, in just a few days. He felt as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over him, chilling him to the bone. He opened his mouth, wanting to invoke the rule of "no leaving one's post during working hours" to reprimand him, but the words caught in his throat—the other party had invoked the factory director's name, and he, a mere director, simply couldn't sway him.
Seeing that he had lost his temper, He Yuzhu whistled happily as he entered the food storage room. The room was filled with freshly delivered pork belly, its red and white stripes glistening with fresh oil; live fish were still splashing in the tank, their scales shimmering silver. He picked and chose, his smile never fading, as if he could already see himself shining brightly in front of Director Zhu.
Zhong Yi watched his retreating figure disappear through the warehouse door, his heart burning with anxiety. This matter couldn't be left like this! Director Zhu had only just taken office and was already trying to win over the kitchen staff; it was clear he wanted to plant his own people in the factory, and perhaps next he'd target his master, Gu Nan. His master was now the deputy director, in charge of production and logistics, and the kitchen was of paramount importance. Zhu Tao's actions were clearly a test of their limits!
He composed himself and called out towards the food storage area, "Alright, you can go now! Remember, you have to stay at your workstation during working hours. This time it was the factory manager's order, so I won't pursue it! But if it happens again, even if the King of Heaven himself intervenes, your wages will be deducted!"
