Chapter 1405 Diluc's Rant
Chapter 1405 Diluc's Rant
Head Maid Adeline led Shao Yun and Chaska into the winery's manor villa.
As soon as the two entered the house, their eyes fell directly on the long dining table on one side of the living room.
Diluc sat upright in the main seat, his well-tailored dark winery owner's outfit accentuating his tall and straight figure, his expression as cool and composed as ever.
Sitting in the seat opposite him was a woman with short, emerald-green hair, none other than Nefer.
Chaska's eyes narrowed slightly for a moment, and he subconsciously paused for a beat.
Her gaze was like an icy needle, scrutinizing Nefer's features and clothing, scrutinizing every detail from her proper attire to her composed demeanor.
Then, a subtle hint of hostility crept into her tone as she asked, "And who is this?"
Diluc looked up and caught the barely concealed hostility in Chaska's eyes, but remained calm and composed as he introduced:
"Let me introduce you. This is one of my clients. He came here specifically to discuss a collaboration with me on beverages."
At this moment, Nefer also raised her eyes, her emerald green eyes like a lurking emerald serpent, slowly sweeping over the two of them.
First, Chaska, whose emotions were readily apparent and whose eyes held hostility, turned his gaze to Shao Yun, taking in his tall and imposing figure and the innate intimidating aura emanating from him.
The brief inspection lasted only a few seconds. Nefer slowly raised her hand, her fingertips slightly raised, and a faint, distant smile appeared on her lips. She greeted him in a lazy yet polite tone.
"Hello, miss, and... this tall, imposing gentleman."
The last syllable of her voice trailed off slightly, carrying a hint of probing, her gaze still fixed on Shao Yun, clearly paying more attention to this man with a strong presence.
Upon hearing this, Chaska's tense expression eased slightly. Realizing that his hostility had been too obvious, he quickly concealed the coldness in his eyes and tried to smooth things over, softening his tone and even adding a polite smile.
“I see. I’ve often heard people say that your winery business is always booming and has a constant stream of customers. Seeing it today, I can confirm that it lives up to its reputation.”
As she spoke, her gaze swept lightly across the dining table, deliberately displaying an expression of understanding and relief.
Diluc glanced at Chaska, noticing her deliberately polite manner, and without the slightest hesitation, interrupted her, yet still maintained his composure.
"Is there something you need? If you're inviting me to dinner under the guise of 'sparring,' let's talk about it in a few days. I have a lot of things to take care of and don't have time to spar with you."
Upon hearing this, Chaska immediately shook his head, casually crossing his arms over his chest, unwilling yet forced to conceal his sharpness.
"No, although to be honest, I really want to have a match with you to see if you've gotten any weaker lately." She
Immediately afterwards, Chaska pointed outside, his fingertips pointing towards the manor gate, and repeated the task that Mavica had given him, his previous politeness gone.
"But reality doesn't allow it. The Flower Feather Society is really short-handed. I'm here to recruit you as a conscript. We need manpower to help receive the refugees coming from Nordkalai."
Diluc listened quietly, neither refuting immediately nor showing the slightest surprise.
He knew in his heart that since he had settled in Nata, he should take on the corresponding responsibilities.
More importantly, those refugees from Nordkale might be hiding a lot of useful intelligence, which would be a good opportunity to gather information.
After all, Nefert is currently preoccupied with rebuilding the "Secret House" at his winery and probably doesn't have time to answer his own questions.
Let's do it ourselves and be self-sufficient...
After a moment of silence, Diluc, in his usual indifferent and detached tone, gave his reply.
"Okay, I'll pack up and head to the Flower Feather Association to report for duty. But right now, I still have a few things to take care of."
Chaska followed his gaze out of the corner of his eye, glancing sideways at Nefer, a flash of provocation crossing his eyes before he quickly composed himself and said casually:
"Okay, I'll be waiting for you at Huayu Club. Remember, don't keep us waiting too long; the refugees can't afford to wait."
……
After Diluc accepted the mission, Shao Yun and Chaska did not linger and turned to leave the manor villa with Head Maid Adeline, who was waiting by the door.
I still need to find Xinoning...
Nefert watched the two figures disappear through the door, her barely concealed gossip and curiosity causing her to lean forward slightly, nod her chin at Diluc, and ask bluntly:
"Who is that woman? Could she be your girlfriend? The way she looked at me just now, she was practically overflowing with hostility. She acted like I had stolen her man and become the homewrecker."
Diluc sighed helplessly at her gossipy look, leaned back in his chair, casually rested one arm on the armrest, and gently placed the back of his hand under his chin.
“In Mondstadt, Lisa always liked to tease me and Qin, saying we were a perfect match and trying to bring us together.”
He paused, his gaze falling on Nefer's face, his tone filled with even more helplessness.
"When we got to Nata, you started teasing me again about my relationship with that martial arts fanatic from earlier. Are you all part-time matchmakers? Always making fun of my private life."
Upon hearing this, Nefer shrugged indifferently, a forced smile appearing on her face.
"It was just a casual chat. We can't stay immersed in the sadness of the destruction of Nordkare all day long; we'll only make ourselves sick sooner or later."
She had barely finished speaking when she steered the conversation back on track, her eyes still gleaming with gossip as she pressed on, asking:
"Let's not talk about that. Now answer my other question... Who exactly was that 'martial arts fanatic' from earlier? Judging from her appearance, she must be quite skilled, right?"
Upon hearing this, Diluc's tone returned to its usual indifference, and he explained simply and clearly:
"Her name is Chaska, and she's a mediator for the Flower Feather Society. She's quite skilled, but she's just too annoying. She comes to me every few days, pestering me to spar with her. She deserves the title of 'martial arts fanatic'."
Finally, he couldn't help but close his eyes and complain from the bottom of his heart: "Are the Nata people so idle? Don't they have anything else to do? All they think about is fighting all day long?"
After listening to Diluc's introduction of Chaska, Nefer nodded slightly.
After a moment's thought, she learned a bit about this martial arts fanatic, "Chaska." She then inquired about another tall, imposing figure whose aura resembled a human-shaped natural disaster.
"That guy just now...could he be...that adventurer 'Tacitus Kilgo'?"
After all, Shao Yun's aura was too strong just now. His tall and strong figure gave off an invisible sense of oppression, like a lurking beast. This vaguely overlapped with the description of the adventurer in the intelligence report, which made her guess.
Diluc looked at Neferpitou, nodded slowly, and added in a calm tone:
"Yes, that is Tacitus Kilgo, but I usually call him Shao Yun."
Without any unnecessary preamble, it directly confirmed Nefertari's guess.
Upon hearing this, Neferthu sat up straight instantly, her composure vanishing almost entirely, and she unconsciously quickened her pace, recounting Shao Yun's past experiences in a series of rapid-fire sentences.
"So that tall, burly fellow was the powerful figure who protected Mondstadt when the Abyss monster army besieged the city? The one who helped the Seven Stars overcome the crisis of the Great Old Ones in Liyue?"
She paused, took a deep breath, and continued to recount the legendary stories about Shao Yun from the intelligence reports.
"And one of the generals of the Inazuma Rebellion (the other is Goro), the Best Supporting Actor at the first Fontaine Film Festival... and even Tacitus Gilgo, who saved the entire Nata during the Nata Abyss crisis?"
Seeing her shocked expression, Diluc simply nodded firmly and added some little-known, almost dark, information.
"In addition, he was the mastermind behind the destruction of the Mond Lawrence family and the one who personally killed the wind god Barbatos."
He paused slightly at this point, then guessed, "I even suspect that the sudden coup in Liyue more than a year ago was also related to him."
"After all, Ningguang, the once all-powerful Lord of Tianquan in Liyue, is now working as a maid in his house."
"However, that Lady Tianquan never talks about her past with anyone. I have no way of knowing why she became a maid or the truth about the Liyue coup."
"The Fontaine Steambird newspaper once reported on the related rumors, but it's hard to tell if they're true or false, and I'm not sure if those reports were accurate."
(Charlotte: This is all true! I don't report fake news!)
After listening to all the information Diluc revealed, Nefertari gently twirled the strand of short, emerald-green hair beside her ear with her fingertips. The hair twirled nimbly on her fingertips, much like a snake flicking its tongue.
"What an enigmatic man he is—he has legendary achievements in helping nations, yet he also has a past of destroying his family and slaughtering gods. The contrast is too great."
Diluc took in her curiosity and casually reminded her, "Yes, Shao Yun is indeed very unpredictable, but he is just a rancher in Nata right now."
He paused, as if remembering something, and added, "The most interesting thing about him in the past year is that he took that blond traveler on a trip to Winter, supposedly for tourism, with no particular purpose."
"When they came back, they also brought me a few bottles of Winter's Fire Water."
When the topic turned to those bottles of Winter's Fire Water, Diluc couldn't help but frown, his disdain becoming increasingly apparent.
"In Mondstadt, even the most hardened drunkard will only drink when he is desperately craving alcohol or has absolutely no other choice. Otherwise, he would never touch this stuff."
At this moment, Nefer's curiosity about Shao Yun grew stronger, and she felt that this man was hiding endless secrets.
She subconsciously licked her lower lip, her intelligence trader's keen intuition flashing through her mind, and said bluntly:
"I suddenly had a desire to learn more about him, feeling that I could uncover some shocking information about him that would amaze the world."
