Chapter 444: Poisoned Wine Incident (1)
While Sainz was busy with his research, the situation in the British wizarding world became increasingly tense.
The Death Eaters seemed to have finally lost their patience and started killing people. The Daily Prophet reported that the Aurors of the Ministry of Magic had been dispatched several times in recent days to capture a Dark Mark.
As we all know, every time the Death Eaters do something evil, they will release a Dark Mark of a skull and a snake head above the victim to show that they are responsible for the matter and to deter others.
In the past month, the Dark Mark has appeared more frequently than before.
On this day, Ben had a conflict with Mr. Slughorn because he wanted to inspect a precious can of mead that the Potions Master had brought in from outside.
When Saiens saw them, they were dragging and tugging towards the castle. "Mr. Administrator, I understand your responsibilities, but this bottle of mead is rare. It is a gift I am going to give to Dumbledore."
Ben did not back down just because he moved out of the school, "and my duty is exactly what the principal assigned me. He asked me to check anything that comes in from outside the school."
Slughorn's bald forehead wrinkled. "It's not anything dangerous. It's just an ordinary bottle of wine."
"I believe it's just an ordinary bottle of wine," Ben said in the hallway, blocking him from going upstairs, "but please understand my job. I have to make sure nothing dangerous sneaks into the school."
"When Filch was caretaker," Slughorn said pointedly, "he never stopped a professor."
Ben responded, "It's a pity that he couldn't continue and quit."
Their argument attracted a lot of students' attention.
Sainz came down from upstairs and glanced at the students who were watching. Two pairs of eyes avoided his gaze guiltily.
He approached the two men, "Hello, Professor Slughorn, Ben."
"Hello, Professor Autumn."
"Sainz!"
Sainz said to the two men, "I think we don't need to stand in the hallway and be watched by students," and then he said to the students around him, "Go away, go away."
Seeing that there was nothing exciting to watch, the students dispersed.
As the students dispersed, Sainz pulled the two upstairs and said, "I just happened to hear a little bit of your conversation."
"Professor Autumn, you seem to have a good relationship with the administrator?" Slughorn said meaningfully.
Sainz chuckled when he heard this, "You guessed it right, Ben and I are classmates and have always lived in the same dormitory."
"Oh~ So that's how it is." Slughorn nodded and said nothing more, but the meaning was very clear. No wonder you defend him so much, no wonder he, an administrator, is so arrogant.
Sainz did not explain that you had misunderstood something, and once a preconceived prejudice is formed, any explanation is futile.
He said, "Ben is also fulfilling his duties, but your concerns are correct. If the administrator is given the right to check any professor, then wouldn't he be the senior investigator of Hogwarts?"
Sainz's words worked.
Ben muttered a little unhappily, "I'm not Umbridge!
Slughorn smiled. "I think Dumbledore has had enough of having a High Inquisitor!"
Sai's words of deflection eased the escalating tension between the two.
He led the two to the second floor and knocked on Professor McGonagall's door.
"Hello," Professor McGonagall was a little surprised, "What's the matter with all of you coming here?"
Sainz explained before the two of them, "I have something I want to ask you to solve. Professor Slughorn brought back a bottle of wine from outside the school.
I wanted to check it, but Professor Slughorn had intended the bottle as a gift, and he was worried it would lose its flavor once opened."
He was very considerate of the Potions Professor's face and did not mention that he did not allow Ben to drink alcohol because of his status as a professor.
This man is a true Slytherin. He will curry favor with those who are powerful, influential and famous, but he won't even bother to look at those who are powerless, influential and famous.
This was vividly reflected in his attitude towards Harry and Ben. When facing Harry, he invited him to his cocktail party again and again. When facing Ben, he even felt that the other party was insulting him while completing his work.
Of course, Slughorn had a point on this point. After all, as Sai said, if the administrator could check on professors at will, that would be too much power, and he would become the second Umbridge.
But what can I say? The administrator is allowed to check all foreign objects entering Hogwarts, which is a right granted by the headmaster during special periods. The other professors also cooperated, or at least seemed to cooperate, but he insisted on not allowing anyone to touch them.
He refused to give an inch to Ben and even mentioned the previous administrator.
When facing Sainz, who is also a professor, he can maintain superficial mutual respect.
Professor McGonagall listened to Sainz's description, glanced at the three people, and probably knew what was going on, "Horace..."
"Professor McGonagall!" Sainz interrupted her quickly, "I'm going to say something more, please listen and see if it's appropriate."
Professor McGonagall called Slughorn first. Sainz didn't know whether she wanted to persuade the Potions Professor to accept examination. Given Professor McGonagall's old-fashioned nature, this was very likely, but Sainz didn't want her to be the bad guy.
As long as she opened her mouth to advise, no matter whether the results of the examination were good or bad, Professor McGonagall would definitely be hated by Slughorn. Although she might not care, Sainz did mind a little.
He brought them to Professor McGonagall to solve the problem, not to set a trap for her or cause her hatred.
"Professor Autumn?" Professor McGonagall seemed a little confused and looked at Sainz strangely, as if to say, didn't you bring him here so that I could persuade him?
"Professor," Sainz naturally picked up the teapot on her desk and poured a cup for everyone, "I'd like to borrow your space for a cup of tea. Don't mind."
"Everyone please sit down," Professor McGonagall asked everyone to sit down, "if you have anything to say."
Upon hearing this, Ben immediately sat down next to Saien holding a teacup. Slughorn sat alone on the side with a thoughtful expression on his face again. Perhaps he did not expect that Saien would mention Professor McGonagall's teapot so smoothly.
"That's right," Sainz said, "I just heard Professor Slughorn say that the bottle of wine was intended for Professor Dumbledore?"
A trace of pain flashed across Slughorn's face. Although he was reluctant, he did say this in public. "Yes, I saw it at the Three Broomsticks, and I thought it was very good, so I bought it and wanted to give it to Dumbledore."
"This is easy to handle..."
