Chapter 303: The Trap of Star Trek
Chapter 303: The Trap of Star Trek
The threat of the Forsaken Lord loomed like a shadow over the Guardians. Ares, Selena, and Wagner piloted their spaceship through interstellar space, successfully escaping the Forsaken region, but they knew this was merely the calm before the storm.
Inside the spaceship, Selena was intently monitoring the energy fluctuations in the universe, her brow furrowed: "Ares, I've detected a new signal, but this fluctuation is completely different from the past."
Ares turned from the window, his gaze sharp: "What is it?"
Selena projected a star map, pointing to a chaotic space: "The signal comes from a region we've never recorded before—a rift cluster. It's not an ordinary star field; it's more like an unstable dimensional intersection."
Wagner walked over to the two of them, raising an eyebrow: "Dimensional intersection? You mean, that place might connect to other universes?"
Selena nodded, her expression serious: "It's not just other universes, it might be the true hiding place of the Lost Lord."
Ares pondered for a moment, his gaze resolute: "We have no choice. We must go there and uncover the truth."
The spaceship activated its warp drive and sped toward the Rift Cluster. As it drew closer, the surrounding starry sky began to distort, the starlight seemingly torn apart by an invisible hand, forming a chaotic vortex.
“The energy fluctuations here… are too unnatural.” Selena stared intently at the screen, her fingers flying across the keyboard. “The space is constantly collapsing and reconstructing, as if it’s being deliberately manipulated by some force.”
Ares's gaze was as deep as night: "The Lord of the Lost is leading us into his domain. He wants us to fall into a trap."
Wagner sneered and gripped his battle axe tightly: "Then let him see who the prey is."
As the spaceship approached the core of the rift cluster, it suddenly trembled violently, and a powerful gravitational field held it firmly in place. Alarms sounded inside the cabin, and Selena quickly operated the controls, attempting to break free from the gravitational field's grip.
"No!" Selena's voice was filled with anxiety. "The gravitational field is too strong; we can't break free!"
Ares calmly issued the order: "Abandon the ship and prepare to land. What we're facing isn't here, but deep within the star cluster."
The three donned their combat gear, left the spaceship, and landed at the core of the Rift Cluster—a city suspended in the void. This city seemed pieced together from countless dimensional fragments; its buildings were distorted, its streets chaotic, and time and space operated without any discernible pattern.
“This place is even more bizarre than the Lost Starfield.” Wagner looked around and gripped his battle axe tightly. “I feel like I could be swallowed up by this hellhole at any moment.”
Selena scanned the energy fluctuations around her, her expression growing increasingly grave: "The spatial structure here is unstable, constantly reconstructing itself. We must find the source of the signal as soon as possible, or we may be trapped here."
Ares's gaze sharpened as he locked onto the massive black tower in the city center: "The signal is coming from there. Whatever lies ahead, we must go in."
They marched along the twisted street, the surrounding buildings seeming to watch them, each step fraught with unknown danger. Suddenly, the ground began to tremble, a crack opened beneath their feet, and countless creatures made of dark energy surged from it.
"Looks like the welcoming ceremony is about to begin." Wagner grinned, twirling his battle axe in his hand as he stepped forward.
Ares and Selena followed closely behind, the three working in perfect harmony to repel the dark creatures one by one. However, as they approached the tower, the number and strength of the enemies continued to increase.
Finally, they arrived at the entrance to the black tower. The atmosphere here was even more oppressive than in the Lost Starfield, as if the entire tower was exuding an irresistible aura of death.
“The energy fluctuations here…are remarkably similar to those at the core of the Spiral of Fate,” Selena said softly, a hint of unease in her voice. “But it’s more complex, more…conscious.”
Ares gripped his rune sword, his gaze cold and stern: "The Lord of the Lost is waiting for us here. He wants us to walk into his trap."
Wagner scoffed, "Then let him taste the blade in the trap."
They pushed open the tower's doors and entered a pitch-black corridor. The walls on both sides of the corridor were covered with twisted runes, which seemed to flow and emitted a dim light.
“These runes…” Selena examined the wall closely, her face turning pale instantly. “They record… our past.”
Ares and Wagner stopped simultaneously, staring at the runes on the wall. They saw every battle they had ever fought, every choice they had ever made, and even their most hidden inner fears.
“He’s manipulating our memories,” Ares said coldly, slashing his sword through the runes on the wall. “But we won’t be manipulated.”
They eventually arrived at the top floor of the tower, a vast circular hall. A black energy vortex floated in the center of the hall, and within it emerged the blurry figure of the Forgotten Lord.
"Guardians," the voice of the Lord of the Lost was deep and majestic, as if echoing directly in the depths of their souls, "you have finally arrived here."
Ares raised his rune sword, his eyes blazing: "We're here to end this."
The Lord of the Lost let out a cold laugh: "The end? No, Ares. You are nothing but a part of the spiral of fate. Every act of resistance you make is a part of my power."
Selena's expression grew increasingly grave: "He's using our actions to enhance his own power!"
Wagner roared and charged at the Forgotten Lord, swinging his battle axe. However, the Forgotten Lord's power far exceeded expectations; he easily blocked Wagner's attack and sent him flying with a backhand.
Ares and Selena reacted quickly and launched a joint attack, but the power of the Lost Lord seemed inexhaustible, and each of their attacks was easily neutralized.
Under the immense pressure from the Lord of the Lost, the three gradually felt overwhelmed. However, at their most desperate moment, Ares suddenly sensed unusual energy fluctuations from the rune sword.
“Selena!” Ares shouted, “The energy of the Spiral of Fate still lingers in the Runeblade! We can use it!”
Selena quickly adjusted her energy device, synchronizing it with Ares's rune sword. As the rune sword absorbed the remaining energy from the spiral of fate, its blade erupted with a dazzling light.
Ares gripped the rune sword tightly, his gaze resolute: "Wagner, Selena, concentrate all your power and attack his core together!"
The three launched their strongest attack simultaneously. The light from the runic sword, energy cannon, and battle axe converged, forming a massive energy shockwave that struck the core of the Lost Lord.
The Lord of the Lost let out a shrill scream, and the black energy vortex began to collapse. His figure gradually blurred, and finally vanished completely in the light.
The battle ended, and the Rift Cluster returned to calm. The three stood on the top floor of the tower, gazing at the gradually returning starry sky, their hearts filled with complex emotions.
“We did it,” Selena said softly, a hint of relief in her eyes.
Wagner laughed and patted the two on the shoulder: "No matter what monsters come next, we're ready!"
However, Ares's gaze remained profound, and his voice was deep: "Although the threat of the Forgotten Lord has disappeared, this battle has only revealed a deeper secret of the universe. A new crisis is already brewing."
Selena suddenly received a new signal, and her face instantly turned pale: "Ares, Wagner... you'd better take a look at this."
On the projection screen, a brand new energy fluctuation appeared on the star map—a being more powerful than the Lost Lord was awakening.
Ares gripped the rune sword, his gaze resolute: "The Guardians' mission is far from over."
