Chapter 302: The Summoning of the Lost Starfield
Chapter 302: The Summoning of the Lost Starfield
The crisis in Ring City subsided temporarily, and the Guardians finally gained a brief period of peace. However, this tranquility lasted only three days before Selena received a mysterious signal in the ship's communication system.
Inside the spaceship's control cabin, Selena frowned, her fingers flying across the control panel. Her eyes were fixed on the fluctuating images on the screen, her expression growing increasingly grave.
"Here we go again?" Wagner leaned against the doorway, half-jokingly. "We just dealt with the Alliance's madman last time, who is it this time? An old monster from the depths of the universe? Or yet another madman who wants to destroy the universe?"
Ares walked slowly into the control room, his gaze calm and composed: "What signal is that?"
Selena took a deep breath and looked up at the two of them: "This is no ordinary signal. It comes from a place recorded as a lost star system. According to the Alliance's archives, that star system was designated a forbidden zone thousands of years ago, devoid of any signs of life, and even light cannot penetrate it."
Wagner raised an eyebrow: "Sounds like a nice place, perfect for a vacation."
Selena didn't laugh; her voice was low: "What's even stranger is that the waveform of this signal... is extremely similar to the energy we encountered in the spiral of fate, but it's much more complex, as if... a higher being is manipulating it."
Ares's eyes sharpened, and after a moment of thought, he spoke: "Perhaps our act of breaking the spiral of fate has attracted the attention of certain beings. The signal from the lost star field could very well be a trap, but it could also be the key to unlocking the truth of the universe."
Wagner laughed and patted Ares on the shoulder: "Then what are we waiting for? Either get scared or rush up and see. We don't have anything else to do anyway."
Selena nodded and quickly adjusted the spaceship's course: "Target—Lost Starfield."
The spaceship activated its warp drive and sped towards the Lost Starfield. After traversing several star systems, they finally approached that mysterious space.
When the Lost Starfield appeared before them, all three of them held their breath.
This star field was completely unlike anything they had ever seen before. There was no starlight here; space was shrouded in a thick layer of black mist, as if the entire region was being swallowed up by an indescribable force. The spaceship's probes could barely penetrate this darkness, and all the data feedback was chaotic and unanalyzable.
“The energy fluctuations here… do not belong to the universe as we know it.” Selena’s voice was tinged with shock. “This doesn’t seem to be naturally formed; it’s more like… some kind of abandoned experimental field.”
Ares gazed at the dark void outside the window, gripping his rune sword tightly: "Whatever is hidden here, we must find the source of that signal."
The spaceship slowly entered the abandoned star system. The surrounding darkness seemed to writhe with life, sending chills down their spines. Suddenly, the spaceship shook violently, and a powerful gravitational field emanated from the depths of darkness, firmly pulling them in.
"We've been captured!" Selena frantically operated the spaceship's systems, but no matter how she adjusted them, the spaceship still couldn't shake off that strange force.
Wagner gripped his battle axe tightly and grinned: "Looks like we're about to have to greet some big monster again."
Ares calmly said, "Prepare to land and see what lies hidden behind this darkness."
The spaceship was pulled into the core region of the lost star system, eventually landing on a massive, dark planet. The three donned their combat gear, stepped out of the spaceship, and set foot on this unfamiliar land.
The sight before them was breathtaking—an ancient city swallowed by darkness, towering towers and massive buildings appearing and disappearing in the black mist, as if time had stood still. A suffocating sense of oppression permeated the air, as if the entire planet were asleep, awaiting the awakening of some being.
“This place… is too quiet.” Wagner looked around and gripped his battle axe tighter. “I hate this deathly silence.”
Selena scanned the energy fluctuations around her, her expression growing increasingly grave: "The energy here... doesn't seem to be naturally generated; it's more like it's been sealed. We may have entered the forbidden zone of some ancient being."
Ares's gaze was sharp as he stared at the tallest black tower in the city center: "The source of the signal is in that tower. Whatever lies ahead, we must go in."
The three walked along the broken street, the surrounding buildings seeming to stare at them, each step fraught with unknown danger. Suddenly, Wagner stopped and whispered, "Did you hear that?"
A faint whisper drifted through the air, as if countless souls were murmuring in one's ear; the sound was indistinct yet chilling.
“This is not an illusion,” Selena whispered. “The space itself is speaking to us.”
Ares gripped his rune sword and continued forward: "We've gone too far; there's no turning back. Keep going."
They finally arrived at the entrance to the Black Tower, a massive black stone door covered in intricate runes. These runes shimmered with a dark light, as if warning intruders to stay away.
Selena quickly analyzed the runes, attempting to break the seal on the door. However, her face soon turned pale: "These runes... are not any language we know; they seem more like markings from a higher dimension."
Wagner brandished his battle axe and said without hesitation, "No matter what runes they are, they can't stop us."
Ares stopped Wagner's impulse. He carefully examined the runes on the stone gate and suddenly discovered that one of the symbols was extremely similar to the energy fluctuations of the Spiral of Fate.
“This door… is sealed with the residual energy of the Spiral of Fate,” Ares said in a low voice. “We must use the power of the Runeblade to unlock it.”
Ares raised his rune sword, its blade radiating a dazzling light, as he approached the stone door. As the sword touched the runes on the door, the entire tower trembled, and the stone door slowly opened, releasing a powerful surge of dark energy, as if welcoming their arrival.
The three stepped into the black tower, where they were greeted by a long, dark corridor covered with twisted runes and unknown patterns. A decaying stench permeated the air, as if some indescribable entity lurked within.
They finally arrived at the core of the Black Tower, a vast circular hall. A huge black crystal floated in the center of the hall, its interior shimmering with an eerie light, as if it were breathing.
Suddenly, a deep and majestic voice echoed in the hall: "Guardians, you have finally arrived."
The three looked around warily. Ares raised his rune sword and asked coldly, "Who are you?"
A blurry figure emerged from the black crystal; it was an indescribable existence, seemingly transcending the boundaries of time and space.
"I am the Lord of the Lost, the former guardian of the universe, and the true creator of the Spiral of Fate." The voice was deep and cold. "You destroyed the Spiral of Fate and disrupted the order of the universe. Now... you must pay the price for it."
Selena looked at Ares in shock: "He's the creator of the Spiral of Fate? That means... we've been playing on his chessboard all along."
Wagner gritted his teeth, twirling his battle axe in his hand: "Enough talk, let's fight!"
Ares calmly replied, "We are not here to fight. We are here to uncover the truth of the universe and stop you from continuing to manipulate destiny."
The Lord of the Lost let out a cold laugh: "The truth? You cannot bear the weight of the truth. The balance of the universe requires sacrifice, and you are part of that sacrifice."
As the Lord of the Lost finished speaking, the black crystal erupted with powerful energy fluctuations, engulfing the three in a dark space. Here, time and space lost all meaning, and the three were forced to confront their deepest fears.
Ares saw himself fail in the void, Selena saw the future of the collapsing universe, and Wagner saw the betrayal of his companions.
"It's just an illusion!" Ares roared, slashing his sword to shatter the illusion. "We will not be defeated by false fear!"
Working together, the three successfully broke free from the shackles of the dark space and returned to the Black Tower Hall. Their resistance blurred the figure of the Forgotten Lord, but his voice remained cold and authoritative.
"Your will is strong, but you cannot change the course of fate," the Lord of the Lost said in a low voice. "The end of the universe is already destined, the spiral of fate is only the beginning, and the true judgment has just begun."
Ares gripped the rune sword, his gaze resolute: "Fate is not predetermined; it is in the hands of every being. We will stop you, no matter the cost."
The figure of the Forgotten Lord vanished into the darkness, but his threat lingered like a shadow over the three men's hearts.
The spaceship restarted and departed the Lost Starfield. Selena checked the system data, her brow furrowed: "The energy fluctuations of the Lost Lord have disappeared, but his existence has not been completely erased. He may be hiding in some corner of the universe, waiting to strike again."
Wagner grinned, his fighting spirit blazing: "Then let him come! No matter what dimension the monster comes from, we're ready."
Ares's gaze was deep, and his voice was firm: "The fate of the universe remains to be decided, but we will not back down. The journey of the guardians has only just begun."
The spaceship traversed the interstellar void, heading towards an unknown future. The Guardians knew that even greater dangers and unknown challenges awaited them, but they were prepared to face them all.
