Chapter 42 Lord of the Skull

Chapter 42 Lord of the Skull

Turning our gaze to the opposite side of the temple, the attacking force's lineup came into view.

It was a chaotic army with red and bronze as its main colors.

Clad in blood-stained armor and wielding a variety of crude melee weapons, the berserk warriors charged toward the temple's defenses like mad beasts.

What came from their mouths was not a war cry—but a primal, bloodthirsty roar.

Followers of Khorne, the Blood God.

These guys worship the most direct and violent of the four Chaos Gods.

Their doctrine was extremely simple: killing. Constant killing.

Offering blood as a sacrifice to the God of Blood, building a glorious bone seat with skulls, killing anyone is acceptable, even killing one's own people is acceptable, as long as blood flows out.

But what truly caught Qin Mo's attention was not the ferocious infantry.

Instead, it was three giant machines behind the infantry.

Those were three enormous demonic engines.

Their shape resembles a twisted mechanical dinosaur, with bodies cast from black iron and brass, and boiling dark red liquid seeping from their joints.

Each demon engine has a massive, brass-cast skull at its head.

Their right arms were attached to an enormous axe, the blade of which was covered with Khorne runes.

The configurations of the left arms varied; some were equipped with a constantly rotating multi-barreled machine gun, while others were equipped with a strangely shaped launcher with a magazine full of heads.

Real human heads, preserved by some kind of evil magic, each one with its mouth open in silence, as if emitting an inaudible scream.

And right in the center of the chest of these demonic engines is a huge cannon muzzle.

The master of the skull.

Qin Mo used his divine sense to probe the internal structure of the three demon engines, and then his eyebrows twitched slightly.

interesting.

At the core of each Skull Lord, deep within layers of iron plates, rune arrays, and demonic chains, lies a soul.

An extremely powerful and violently violent soul.

The soul was bound by countless chains and suppressed by countless runes. It kept trying to break free of its restraints, but the chains and runes firmly imprisoned it in place, not allowing it any freedom whatsoever.

And this energy of the soul is being constantly extracted and transformed by the mechanical structure, becoming the power that drives the entire demon engine.

The soul of the Bloodthirsty Demon.

The most powerful demonic servant of Khorne, the soul of the bloodthirsty archdeacon, was forcibly bound within a mechanical shell, becoming an eternal power source.

Qin Mo couldn't help but sigh inwardly.

"That does have some merit."

The method of imprisoning the Great Demon's soul within a machine for power is quite similar to some of his past actions.

When Qin Mo was around the Nascent Soul stage, he once captured more than a dozen Nascent Soul cultivators from opposing evil cultivators and imprisoned them in magical artifacts he had crafted, using them as permanent spiritual energy batteries.

The souls of those evil cultivators wailed day and night within the magical artifacts, unable to live or die, while Qin Mo comfortably enjoyed the endless spiritual power they supplied.

The design concept of this Skull Master is essentially the same as his "Primordial Batteries".

"A chaotic dimensional blacksmith... he's quite a talent," Qin Mo thought to himself. "Not bad efficiency."

[Host, you are now a "righteous" person. Please pay attention to the wording of your inner monologue.]

"...Does even my inner monologue need to be reviewed?"

No need. Just a friendly reminder.

Qin Mo ignored the system and continued to observe the battlefield.

The situation in front of the temple is already extremely precarious.

The nuns' defenses were bombarded by the three Skull Lords in turn, and most of the city wall had collapsed.

Although the nuns fought extremely bravely, relentlessly unleashing their bolters, flamethrowers, and melting guns upon the Khorne cultists, their light weapons were utterly ineffective against a demonic engine of the Skull Lord's caliber.

Qin Mo noticed that on the left flank of the temple's defenses, a nun dressed in magnificent power armor was directing the battle. Her armor was much more exquisite than that of ordinary nuns, with golden holy symbols inlaid on her shoulder armor and a religious banner unfurled behind her.

Eleanor, one of the senior nuns of the Order of the Martyrs.

On the right wing—

Another senior nun is making a decision.

Genevieve.

Qin Mo saw her put down the communicator in her hand, turn around and face a small group of nuns behind her, about twenty people. It looked like they were about to charge.

Qin Mo narrowed his eyes slightly.

Genevieve's goal was clear: the skull master right in the center.

The Demon Blood Cannon on the chest of the Skull Lord was charging up, and deep within the muzzle, dark red light was condensing at a visible speed.

If this bombardment hits the main structure of the temple, the entire building will be razed to the ground.

Genevieve knew this.

So she chose to charge.

While the Demon Blood Cannon is still charging up, rush in and destroy it with the molten metal bomb.

The muzzle of the Demon Blood Cannon suddenly lit up with a blinding dark red light, and then the muzzle began to turn.

Not toward the temple, but toward Genevieve and her sisters who were charging forward.

The Lord of the Skull discovered them.

The enormous brass skull slowly turned, "saw" these tiny humans rushing towards it, and then, without hesitation, aimed the Demon Blood Cannon at them.

The dark red light emanating from the cannon muzzle had reached its peak and could burst forth at any moment.

Genevieve saw it too.

She didn't stop walking.

But the five nuns at the forefront made a decision.

Without any hesitation, and without even a hint of fear on his face.

They accelerated and rushed in front of Genevieve, trying to use their bodies to block a main cannon shot from the Demon Engine.

It's not because they think they can stop it; no one can stop that kind of thing. They know that in their hearts.

It's because even if it only reduces the power of that shot by a tiny bit, even if it only buys Genevieve half a second more time, that would be enough.

The hymns became incredibly loud at that moment, and the five nuns sang the last line of the martyrdom hymn in the final instant.

Golden light rose from their bodies; it was the resonance of souls generated when the power of faith was pushed to its limit.

A faint, fragile, yet incredibly pure golden light.

The space wolves saw this scene from three kilometers away.

Jill frowned: "It's too late—!"

His legs began to exert force, and the Space Wolf's maximum sprint speed could reach an astonishing number, but even a Space Marine would need time to cover a distance of three kilometers.

The light from the Demon Blood Cannon had reached its peak, and at that very moment...

Qin Mo made a move.

A barely perceptible smile curved the corners of his mouth.

"The merit has arrived."

His figure flashed.

The price of gold surged.

The next instant, Qin Mo's figure appeared out of thin air directly in front of the five nuns.

The "Human Emperor Flag" unfurled behind him in the wind.

The moment the magnificent golden banner was fully unfurled, it released a golden holy light comparable to the blazing sun, spreading out in all directions like a tangible wave.
