Chapter 4731 X Royal Family: New Life (Part 10)
Schiller strode down the corridor, prepared everything in the preparation room, and then rushed to the operating room. He hadn't even seen Charles lying on the operating table yet when he felt the increasingly intense brainwave fluctuations.
"What's going on?" Schiller went over to check on Charles, then looked at Strange, who was fully armed beside him, and asked, "What happened to him?"
“That’s exactly what I wanted to ask you.” Strange’s hands continued moving, but he slightly turned his eyes to look at the electrocardiogram monitor next to him. “Professor X’s brainwave problem is reflected in his heart rate. His heart rate is fluctuating greatly now.” The other doctors all looked very grim. Only Strange, with his superior skills and daring, still dared to continue the surgery.
“Whatever method you use, stabilize him.” During the surgery, Strange’s voice remained completely emotionless, almost like the electronic announcements from the equipment; he was like a heartless machine. He reached out, took the scalpel from his assistant, and said without looking up, “You have a maximum of three minutes.”
“Let me see.” Schiller didn’t say much. He walked to the other side of the operating table, avoiding Strange’s arm, leaned down, and examined Professor X’s eyelids, then seemed to be sensing something.
"In this situation, he can't actively invite me into his mental realm, so I'll have to use some forceful means, Gray Mist!"
Gray mist emanated from Schiller's hands, but Strange immediately snapped, "Move it away, don't block my view!"
Before the mist could even spread, it had already seeped into Professor X's body and begun its advance towards his brain. This physical-to-mental intrusion was swift; the next second, Schiller was already inside Professor X's mental realm.
But strangely, things weren't as peaceful as usual. A storm was brewing in the pitch-black universe. It wasn't just Professor X's brainwaves, but Magneto's as well.
Schiller understood what was happening almost immediately, but understanding alone wasn't enough; he had to find a way to solve the problem. Following the magnetic and brainwave fluctuations, he flew towards the area with the strongest fluctuations. But the closer he got to the center, the more violent the storm became, and even he wasn't completely immune.
The most urgent task was to calm one of them down. Whether it would work or not, Schiller still addressed the empty space: "Magneto, if you continue, Charles Xavier will surely die."
That's right, these two intertwined forces are Professor X and Magneto in a duel. Professor X brought Magneto into his mental realm, but for some reason, the two started fighting, which led to Professor X being ambushed and then exhibiting such a strange brainwave state during his resuscitation.
After Schiller shouted, he frowned and waited. After a few seconds, the violent power gradually dissipated, and Professor X's true brainwaves finally emerged. Schiller heard his tired voice.
“I’m sorry, Eric. I never intended to sacrifice myself for Scott. It wasn’t part of my plan; it was really just an accident. You have to let me out of here, or others will worry.”
Magneto didn't reply at all. Schiller had no choice but to say, "Whatever happened between the two of you, please stop arguing immediately. Professor X's condition is extremely dangerous, and this surgery cannot be failed."
"You may not know this, but the Stephen Strange who is performing surgery on Professor X is none other than Doctor Strange from the central universe. He has never been in a car accident, and his success rate is near perfect. He is my friend, and he came at my invitation. He cannot fail at this time."
“I completely understand,” Professor X said. “There was a misunderstanding between Eric and me, but it shouldn’t affect you. Everything is back to normal now, so you can leave now.”
“No, I’m taking him with me.” Schiller said firmly. “Whatever misunderstandings you have, now is not the time to explain or argue. I have to separate you. Magneto is coming with me.”
“The problem now is that I can’t stop him,” Professor X sighed. “Most carbon-based life forms cannot adapt to existing solely as a spiritual body. Over time, their spiritual bodies will develop all sorts of problems. Magneto’s loss of control is partly due to this. Only I can control him now.”
“No,” Schiller said. “You can now access my mental realm and send him into the tower. I can control him.”
Professor X expressed his doubts, but Schiller granted him access to the mental realm. Professor X immediately connected, and although he didn't delve deeply, he instantly realized that this couldn't be an ordinary doctor. His renowned reputation in the fighting world must have been earned entirely on his own.
He had indeed considered this matter before, because Schiller had acted quite normally, like an ordinary person wholeheartedly trying to solve their problems while also somewhat enjoying the spectacle. At most, his methods were a bit extreme, and his personality a bit wicked. But Professor X had seen far too many strange people in his life; Schiller was nothing compared to him.
As an expert in the field of psychology, Professor X immediately understood after entering Schiller's mental realm that the notion of an ordinary doctor without superpowers was a lie. This guy was abnormal from beginning to end.
“You can’t guarantee you won’t hurt him.” Professor X was still reluctant. “There are indeed some misunderstandings between us, but he didn’t intend to hurt me. I know you probably won’t do it willingly, but some of the safety measures needed to suppress him might be quite drastic.”
“You have no choice,” Schiller said, looking into his eyes. “If you really die, he will only feel more guilty. Won’t he?”
That one sentence completely convinced Professor X. Schiller then asked, "Where is he?"
“Right here, this storm is him,” Professor X said.
“Alright, leave it to me.” Schiller nodded. He transformed into gray mist, using it to carry his brainwaves, gradually shrinking the storm until it was successfully pulled into his mental world and stuffed into the tower.
The tower did have some suppressive effect, but the suppression was mainly achieved through other personality traits. As Professor X said, the process was indeed quite intense, but ultimately the out-of-control magnetic storm was brought under control.
"Alright." Schiller snapped out of his daze and looked at Strange. "You can continue the surgery. I need to go ask Magneto what happened."
Strange didn't speak, only gave him a look. After Schiller left, he returned to his room to rest for a while, then prepared to go find Magneto to ask what had happened.
"You're awake now?" Schiller asked Magneto in the tower's reception room. "Why did you suddenly lose control?"
Magneto pursed his lips and remained silent, seemingly still trying to recall what had just happened. Schiller wasn't in a hurry either; after a while, Magneto finally spoke, "Charles has a plan."
What is he trying to do?
"He knew he couldn't stop Scott from participating in the coup in the Shi'ar Empire, but he didn't want Scott to lose himself in the vortex of power lust. You know, that's very possible. That's the power center of three great empires, a place where wealth and power are dazzling."
"He doesn't believe Scott can stay true to himself?"
“If he were alone, perhaps he could manage. But don’t forget, he has a younger brother to whom he feels deep guilt. Charles knows Scott well. He’s capable of anything to make amends. It’s easy for him to sink deeper and deeper, ultimately losing himself completely.”
"So he intends to..."
"He wanted to orchestrate an attack by the Shi'ar Empire, targeting him. Of course, it wasn't to sow discord between the two brothers, but to give Scott a legitimate reason to seek revenge. Although this would turn his motivation into hatred, his fundamental motivation was still love and protection. Once he had his revenge, his desires would be greatly diminished, which would keep him clear-headed."
"It's indeed difficult to have the best of both worlds in this situation, so this is considered a relatively good solution. Where does the problem lie?"
“The problem is that I disagree,” Magneto said. “I’ve been in his brainwaves the whole time and know all his plans. I strongly oppose him creating an opportunity through self-harm, but he won’t listen to me.”
“He was already being watched at that time. You know, he had been in the Shi'ar Empire and was once a target of everyone’s hatred. After the news of Vulcan’s usurpation came the news of Charles’s appearance. This was bound to make others think a lot.”
"That's true. So this attack was also..."
"After the Phoenix's out-of-control attack that destroyed the galaxy, the Shi'ar Empire developed a very comprehensive plan to defend against mutants, which is why Charles was unwilling to let Scott get too involved. We suspected that the Shi'ar Empire might also have a main force of Sentinels. As it turns out, we were right; the laser that injured Charles was a weapon from one of the Sentinel robots."
Schiller frowned slightly. "That complicates things," he said. "Who do you think gave them the Sentinel robots?"
“That’s hard to say,” Magneto shook his head. “Many people on Earth have connections with the Shi’ar Empire, including the Avengers. The Illuminati can even contact the SS directly. If they’ve cooperated before, the Shi’ar Empire will definitely make similar requests. The mutants have caused them too much harm, and they will stop at nothing to deal with them.”
"You fought with Charles to stop him."
“I admit I was too angry and lost control. This loss of control was irreversible, and I was unable to control my mental state to the point that I almost harmed Charles.”
"That group wasn't prepared by him?"
"No. It's an extreme anti-mutant group within the Shi'ar Empire. They tried to assassinate Charles back then but failed. Hearing news about them again now will surely provoke them like hyenas smelling blood."
"But they didn't manage to kill him. If, as you say, there really was a main sentinel, could the professor have survived in that situation?"
"They wanted to kill him, but they wanted to capture him alive even more. Charles's fourth-generation brainwave amplifier wasn't primarily for emitting brainwaves, but for storing mutant consciousness. Do you know what that means?"
Schiller understood: "They want to obtain the mutant's consciousness, but without the genes, how can they resurrect mutants?"
“I don’t know about that. But they did intend to capture Charles alive. Fortunately, Scott arrived in time and brought Charles back, and you performed surgery on him. The Shia Empire’s plot will not succeed.”
“I’m afraid not,” Schiller said. “They will soon find out that Scott is the professor’s most valued student. If they make a move against him, the professor will definitely show up. The most important thing now is Vulcan’s attitude. As long as he protects his brother, there won’t be a big problem. But if he doesn’t want to do his best, or fails to protect him, you will have to make another trip to the Shi’ar Empire sooner or later.”
