Chapter 4730 X Royal Family: New Life (Part 9)
The arrival of the S.H.I.E.L.D. supplies sent mad with excitement across Krakia Island. It meant not only a better life, but also recognition. It was the first step into the international community; they had finally stepped out into the world.
But along with the improvements come even greater challenges. Zheng Xian looked at the dock under construction, shook his head and said, "This is enough as a trade port. But if it is to serve as the only port in a country for both military and trade purposes, it is probably far from sufficient."
Charles was well aware of this. He said, "At this stage, we have no plans to build an army. The scale and level of trade should not be enough to trigger an attack, so we can only take it one step at a time."
Zheng Xian didn't say much, following the mutants to the Central Royal Court. However, the beautiful scenery of Clarkia along the way still moved him. It truly resembled an ideal world.
“I really like your slogan,” the Weather Witch said. “Never give up on any mutant. It sounds great.”
Her English had a slight Eastern accent and was spoken slowly, which had a unique charm. Charles smiled and said, "It was Eric who suggested it. He's an idealist. Now, he's not far from realizing his dream."
“I hope so,” the Weather Witch said. “If you succeed, the oppressed mutants in other countries will also have a home.”
Upon arriving at the Central Royal Court, they discussed many things, including future cooperation and the situation in Clarkia itself. However, Schiller and his group did not participate in the conversation. Firstly, they were outsiders; secondly, the mutants faced a major problem: they had no cook.
There are indeed chefs among the mutants, but none are professional chefs worthy of hosting state banquets. They also lacked the resources to showcase their skills previously. Everyone was subsisting on frozen food. Suddenly having to prepare a meal for guests is proving to be a bit too much of a challenge.
Fortunately, Eric was experienced in this area and immediately organized a team to begin the hospitality work. Some went to prepare a ceremonial band, some to arrange accommodations, and the rest were mostly busy with food. Because they frequently dealt with China, they knew that food was the most important thing to the Chinese.
Eric had to turn to Schiller again, not because Schiller was a professional chef, but because he was the only one who truly understood Chinese tastes. Schiller quickly drew up a menu for him. It consisted of safe, home-style dishes: stir-fried fish fillets, sweet and sour pork ribs, stir-fried seasonal vegetables, smashed cucumber, and so on.
Even so, no one knew how to cook it, so Schiller had to be the head chef. Other mutants with culinary experience assisted him.
"Why do I feel like I'm cooking everywhere I go?" Schiller said while chopping ribs.
“It’s not your imagination,” Steve said, washing the bok choy. “A person who can cook will cook wherever they go.”
Matt was checking the fish in the tank. After lifting one out, he almost got slapped by it. He exclaimed, "This is so fresh! It's a shame to make fillets. How about steamed sea bass?"
"You actually know this dish?" Schiller said, somewhat surprised. "However, state banquets try to avoid foods with bones. It wouldn't be good if someone choked on one. Actually, I don't really want to make ribs. But Peter wants to eat them."
“That’s right!” Peter said, rummaging through the spice box. “I haven’t had the doctor’s ribs in ages. Just thinking about them makes my mouth water.”
"What is all this?" Strange was also looking at the spices. He pulled out about twenty similar-looking bottles and jars from a box, trying hard to decipher the Chinese characters on them. But they were just spices.
Stark, on the other hand, was peeling garlic. In reality, he couldn't do anything else. He was completely clueless when it came to cooking. Giving him garlic to peel was just to prevent him from loitering around in the kitchen and causing trouble for others.
The other mutants were washing vegetables and chopping meat. Schiller was only in charge of cooking. Before long, a delicious and visually appealing home-style dish was ready. As soon as it was served, Zheng Xian and the Weather Witch both raised their eyebrows.
This wasn't the kind of Chinese food that Westerners stereotyped about; it was authentic Chinese home cooking. While it couldn't compare to some dishes served at state banquets, it was still quite genuine. Zheng Xian glanced at Charles again. No wonder he seemed to know so much about China; it turned out that there were also China experts in Clarkia.
Since it wasn't exactly a state banquet, the atmosphere wasn't too formal. Most of the familiar faces were there. Seeing the familiar Avengers members, Zheng Xian clearly noticed something, but he said nothing. The meal was enjoyed by both host and guests.
Zheng Xian and the Weather Witch were still conducting research on the island, accompanied by Charles and Eric; the others didn't need to go. So they all returned to their lodgings. However, they weren't idle once back. Stark set up a drone and began observing the movements along Jupiter's orbit.
Keep in mind that the Shi'ar army is still in the solar system. Currently, mutants and two teams of Avengers are taking turns, barely managing to keep them on the Jupiter-like horizon. Somewhat unexpectedly, the Shi'ar Empire hasn't sent any more troops. They seem preoccupied with their own problems.
And indeed, that was the case. While Gabriel, the god of fire, swiftly carried out the decapitation, the Shi'ar Empire was itself a disorganized mess. He wanted to seize power, and others wanted to kill him and take over, and now was the perfect opportunity. Thus, the entire kingdom was embroiled in internal strife.
If Professor X had been persuaded to help quell the internal strife, things might have stabilized by now. But the problem is, Professor X is adamantly refusing. This internal conflict has left Gabriel in a state of utter chaos; the question is no longer whether he can take Earth, but whether he can save his own life.
Gabriel was in his office, monitoring the rebellion around Featherstar. Suddenly, a laser beam shattered his office window, and Cyclops stormed in, furious.
"Gabriel!!!"
Gabriel turned to look at him, his laser eyes fixed on him, and said, "How dare you... how dare you lay a hand on the professor?!"
“Calm down,” Gabriel said. “Why would I lay a hand on him? I’m counting on you to persuade him to help me clean up this mess.”
A red light flashed in Cyclops's eyes. He was conflicted, unsure whether to believe Gabriel. Gabriel said, "I'll say it again, I didn't manipulate you. I didn't even really want to see you. You insisted on compensating me by saying you could get mutant support for me, which is why I allowed you to roam around the palace."
"...Didn't you attack the professor?"
“I’m not that crazy,” Gabriel said. “Attacking him would do me no good. First, he might be an ally. Second, he’s very strong, and it wouldn’t be wise to anger him. Finally, how could I not know that attacking him might anger you? I can’t beat you. Anyway, it wasn’t me.”
Cyclops was already inclined to believe him. Because what Gabriel said did make sense. He frowned deeply and said, "But those are your Royal Guard..."
"Good heavens, if I could truly control the Royal Guard, would I still have to worry about rebellions? Everyone knows the Royal Guard is the strongest!"
Cyclops gritted his teeth. "No one, no matter who, can hurt the professor!"
"You've finally decided to get involved?" Gabriel thought for a moment and said, "I think this might all be part of your good professor's plan."
Cyclops looked up at him, and Gabriel continued, "He knows he can't stop you from participating in the war, so it's better for him than for me."
Cyclops didn't respond. Gabriel pressed, "Where did you hide him? Don't get me wrong, the place you found might not be safe. If all else fails, you should send him back to Earth as soon as possible."
"Why don't you withdraw your forces from the solar system?"
“Because I can’t control myself,” Gabriel said. “Although I am their general, they were sent to the solar system by imperial orders. Now that I have usurped the throne and called them back, they may not listen to me and may even cause trouble.”
“I’ll take the professor back,” Cyclops said, “and then I’ll come back to help you deal with those guys. What does it matter if the Empire is divided if we can’t control it? This isn’t our home.”
Cyclops turned to leave. But Gabriel suddenly called out to him.
“What is Krakya like?” he asked.
“It’s a beautiful place,” Cyclops turned to look at him. “If you go, you’ll love it. We’ll eventually go back there, back to our own home.”
With that, he strode out of the meeting room. Gabriel stood there, murmuring softly, "Home...?"
When the severely injured Professor X was brought back, almost no one knew. Eric had secretly gone to pick him up. To prevent panic, only a very limited number of people knew he had returned.
Professor X's injuries were far from minor. It was just that Cyclops had acted swiftly, placing him in a life support pod belonging to the Shi'ar Empire. This device would prevent his physical condition from changing. However, because it wasn't entirely compatible with mutants, he couldn't stay there long. Immediate surgery was necessary.
"Doctor!! Doctor!!!" Cyclops shouted. The doctors, of course, went immediately. But unfortunately, this was an extremely difficult, even hopeless, surgery.
Professor X's chest was pierced by a laser. The damaged areas were his heart and lungs. And because of the laser's special properties, the wound was in very bad shape. The doctors looked at each other, none of them daring to perform surgery.
"Or perhaps we should remove Doctor Strange from the front lines..."
The Doctor Strange from the central universe and the main universe have been switched back. The Doctor Strange from the main universe went to the front lines after returning from the Shi'ar Empire. He's currently wreaking havoc there. Bringing him back might influence the situation on the front lines.
No sooner had he said that than Strange, fully equipped in his protective gear, arrived. He waved to the others and walked straight into the operating room. The other doctors and nurses exchanged glances and could only follow him in.
The operating lights suddenly blazed on. Strange's brow was sharper than a scalpel. He gently parted the wound on Professor X's chest, but sensed something unusual. Professor X's brainwaves were not calm. He seemed to be experiencing something in his own mental realm.
Strange picked up his scalpel and said, "Go and get Dr. Rodriguez. Perhaps there's still a battle to be fought in his mental realm."
